The game lacks that punce you get when I have played other games. Two games that I have enjoyed more than any other games are.Medal of Honor Allied Assault, and my all time favorite is DEUS EX. This game doesn't have what I say is a thinking part to it.What I mean is like DEUS you had to find clues and what your next move would be.I'm a WWII history buff and this game just is not what I thought it would be.One more thing ,if your going to fly a plane let me use my joystick.

Battlefield 1942 is the best first player shooter that I have ever played. Everyone of my coworkers and friends, who have played the multiplayer demo, ended up buying the full game.
The game is fun, action packed, and rarely dull. On foot, you can play as one of several classes: medic, scout (sniper), assault, or engineer) with varying WWII-era equipment. You can also hop into a variety of vehicles (jeeps, tanks, APCs) , naval vessels (destroyers, battleships, aircraft carriers, landing craft), and aircraft (fighters, dive-bombers, bombers) to dominate the other players.

I wasn't into multi-player gaming until I bought this game. This game is FUN, Fun, Fun. Buy it! You will not be dissapointed as long as you have a broadband internet connection. If you have 56k then forget it. It runs fine on a 500mhz Athlon, with 192 meg.

I bought this game about a couple of months ago and when I first played I was impressed with the game play and your choice of being a medic, infantry,so on so forth. After a while i realized that the framerate was horrible, or in other words it was freezy A LOT!! If you moved the mouse it would go a mile of to the other side of the screen. I had all the right requirments but it just froze to much. I bought a gaming magazine,( Gamepro)and they said the same thing i said. The framerate is way to slow. In my case check if you have the right video cards and sound blasters, but if i were anybody else i wouldn't buy it. The gameplay was very well done but the graphics were a little choppy. I would just stick to Medal of Honor and get amazing results.
For those of who you have problems w/ framerate:

Some people have had a huuuuuuge problem with battlefield running at a halfway decent framerate. Namely, whenever you get close to another player in the game, it gets really choppy. If you have this problem, search for an application called dxdiag go to the 'sound' tab, and reduce your sound acceleration all the way down to nothing. The game will run much better.
This Game Is Great!

I really love this game, its the perfect combination or Counter-Strike and the Tribes series, with giant maps, and massaive multiplayer games that go up to 64 players. The only drawback to this game is long load times, on my 1.5 ghz 384 mb RAM cpu. But if you are willing to wait through the long load times, and have a good sized amount of RAM, then I reccommend getting this game, because it's fun and I play it everyday.
Finally! A holistic, realistic and mature WWII first-person

I have long anticipated the day when there would be a WWII game that was for players who really wanted to experience the strategy and feel of WWII. It moves beyond the death-matchy stuff that appeals to those who like to shoot, see lots of blood, and not think much. If you want another version of a multiplayer death-match, get Quake or Castle Wolfenstein!
If you have been looking for a mature and fairly realistic game of WWII, it has finally arrived! Each theatre of war has a unique and authentic feel about it. If you don't work as a team, you don't have a chance against a team that does. Many vehicles in the game require a crew of two or more people(!)
The single-player mode is OK, but the game's strength is its multi-player mode, which in my opinion blows everything else completely out of the water. Make sure you have a good system before you buy this, it pushes the envelope a bit on system, video and connection requirements... that has to be done if video games are to be taken further.
If you enjoy WWII first person games and have been looking for a more mature and strategic version of one than most of what has come out, this is your (our) day!

I have read a number of 4-star reviews that really ought to be 3-star at best. The concept of the game is spot on, but the delivery is very weak. Especially with tanks and artillery, it is VERY hard to hit anything. I am usually "dead" before I can adjust, and even that is a guess because the graphics do not display depth very well. And then there is the problem with the sniper ("scout") option, where you fire one shot, lose the scope and have to re-load before you can see if you hit anything. While all this might be an attempt at "realism" it is, ultimately, only frustrating.
