This game is a great multiplayer game that I have personally played continuously for about 1 1/2 months now and still going strong. Its got all the core ingredients of a good fps and a lot of elements that some some games for one reason or another leave out. Like for instance the use of vehicles, the ability to use ladders, ability to swim, and an open sandbox environment to name a few. Granted many multiplayer games use open maps yet battlefield 1942 does a good job of keeping the maps interesting yet uncluttered for easy movements and tactics, which increases the fun factor for online games dramatically.
The graphics in this game are slightly ahead of its time(for its time), if that makes sense. The game was made I believe in 2002 and the graphics and overall mechanics make it seem like it was made in late 2003 or early 2004. So expect for a slight downgrade in visuals when compared to modern games. Yet dont worry since the gameplay more than makes up for it.
All in all, this is a top notch EA game made by guys that know there WWII(medal of honor). So expect only the best, and don't hesitate to buy it.

Battlefield 1942 started it all for EA and its very popular Battlefield series. I remember some time ago playing the demo for BF1942 and falling in love with it knowing it would become an instant classic.
In as much as BF1942 is its own animal, I recall seeing so much of what BF1942 and later BF2 are in the Desert Storm mod built for Unreal Tournament. It seemed back then that the marriage of the FPS and the war simulation were meant to be.
Although I do not play BF1942 much anymore, the game still stands the test of time and it is a worthwhile addition to any EA fans game library. And, I'm sure there are still diehard players out there who continue to play the game on a regular basis.
For nostalgic reasons I would recommend BF1942 to any current FPS gamer who likes the Battlefield series. And, from the perspective of how a great game should look, BF1942 sets the example by which all others should take heed. Though it may appear a bit dated by current standards, it is still a fun game to play.

Excellent online WWII battles.2 teams combat up to 64 players at one time,(32vs32)In this game there are tons of armor to choose from. You will be able to fly airplanes, helicopters,Drive tanks, missle lauching armored vehicles. And much more.I guess everyone knows a little something about the battlefield series.I think that this game is great not only because it is a nice, fun game to play, but you do not not a $400.00 video card and the newest, fastest computer on the market in order to play. The graphics are pretty good when you first install the game. But if you download the free mod (DesertCombat)The graphics improve and the game is very similiar to battlefield 2.

This is a great game that still provides plenty of fun. Espeically for people who don't have they latest computers. Heck, I do, but I still play this awesome game!
In response to the person who said you need a 9800xt to play the game, AND a gig of ram. HA HA...but im sorry, no. I have a laptop with a 64 meg 9000 series card--not even full AGP speed, and not even a gig of ram, and I play the game at absolute max settings with NO LAG! By the way, my harddrive isn't even 7200rpm. Oh, and you don't need to have Sata to play any game. LMAO
Now yes, you DO NEED to have Atleast 512 megs of ram to play the game well. My old athlon 1.67 Ghz could play the game at low-medium laggy with 256 megs of ram and a crappy 128 meg geforce4 card...but it was horrible. Seriously, if you have an xp computer with less then 512ram, you're missing out on your windows experience.
Excellent, But Not As Good As The MOH Series

I love this game. The action is fast paced, the vehicles are great, and the sounds are awesome! However, the graphics are not the best I have seen, and there is almost no story.
The instant action is really the best part of this game, and it is a blast. Honestly, this game is freedom! You can just walk up to any vehicle or weapon, and use it! I really thought that was fun.
Basically, if you are looking for a WWII FPS that relies heavily on action and explosions, this is your game. However, if you are looking for a game that appeals to your heart, brain, and gaming taste, give Medal of Honor a try.

First of all, this game IS worth it. Yes, you may need to have a pretty decent video card installed or it WILL lag and clip here and there. A GeForce3 is by far the worst card to try and play this game with. No wonder it lagged on your poor excuse of a computer! LOL What a joke! "a GeForce 3" ! 64mb of video RAM is not enough to play this game, Trust me! I have an ATI Radeon 9800 pro and it still lags a bit.
If you are going to buy this game, keep these things in mind: You will need a GOOD video card. Not one that is 4 years old like the GeForce 3! Again, what a joke that someone would give this game a crappy review because they loaded it on their ancient outdated crappy video card and Oh, what a surprise, the game choked.
The next thing to remember is that you will need to have at least Cable or DSL to play online smoothly.
The next thing to know is that you must have at least 512mb or better yet 1gb or RAM to play this game smoothly.
And lastly, bots do NOT snipe you from all the way across the map. That comment was from some baby who can't stand to admit defeat.
Summary,
DO NOT TRY TO PLAY THIS GAME ON A GEFORCE 3 CARD! Actually, don't get this game at all, unless you have 1gb or RAM, a SATA Hard drive@7200RPM, 2ghz cpu, ATI 9800XT or up, or GeForce GT6800 video card. Period. It is unfortunately very resource intensive. Other than that, this game is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This game is fun for many reasons.First off, the things you can do is insane!!!! Swipe a fighter, then abandon it (with a parachute, of course.)and kiss those bots goodbye. However, there are a few flaws. 3 words. Dang those snipers! however, blasting at infantry with an anti-naval gun is too much fun to resist!

I've been an avid multiplayer fps fan for a decade now, and have probably logged more hours playing this title than any other. In my opinion, BF1942's release was as revolutionary as that of the original Quake. The physics engine is nearly flawless, and the action is frighteningly realistic and fluid. Also, it seems to me that the WWII era weapons technology lends itself perfectly to this genre; archaic enough to be simple and tactile, while advanced enough to keep gameplay highly varied and feverishly paced.

I shouldn't have bought this. Apparently you need to download updates for this game to work and the smallest one is around 450 MB so I had to give up multiplayer.
And the single player consists of you fighting bots who can snipe you across the map with a pistol, and just ran around instead of behaving like soldiers. You have a 'campaign' mode that basically consists of playing all the maps one after another against PC-controlled bots, that again run around sniping you with pistols.
I wasted my money. I hope you don't by avoiding this game.

I love this game and its expansions. The fun is not in capturing the other flag or capturing all the control points, but its in getting there. And its personal cause its really everyone for themselves on the team except when you are bunched togther at a CP deflecting an offensive which has to be a team effort. Other then that you go go go, and try some Rambo style attacks on the enemy. Playing Kamikazee with your Jeep against their tank to slow them. Sniping from a good vantage point especially when you get one guy at his machine gun and his buddy also follows and its one long string of idiots who dont get a clue and try and sus me out before exposting themselves to my crosshairs.
All I need is to get sniped once and I will resurrect as one as well and payback is glorius. It does get personal because sniping is very diffiult due to the distances so you wanna show whose king sniper to the other side.
One drawback and its not the game, its those stupid newbies or stupid oldbies who dont pay attention to whats going on, they never scan the horizon for snipers or approaching vehicles or aircraft. The sit around playing with their weapons completely oblivious to the greater good, bombs near othersy so you catch a hit and lose health, and they do it just for the hell of it, go figure. Usually, TKing be damed I will shoot these SOBS to stop the annoyance. And if anyone on the other team cheats such as using a clip cheat to hide within the scenery itself, inside boulders trees etc if the server or host wont correct the issue then I will by respawing on that persons team and capping them with a message as to why.
