This game is not worth the wait.. Never see the enemy, weapons mods are terrible, jerky movements. Explosions just look good, but don't blow anything up. Sorry I bought it. Will give away!
Great Idea, Bad execution

This game had the potential to be one of my favorite games ever, but sadly it isn't. The game basically takes Medal of Honor, Warcraft, and the gameplay of Grand Theft Auto and melds it into one confusing mess. Sure its fun to run around jumping into jeeps, planes, and tanks and help the allies take Iwo Jima. However, the gameplay is horrible its nearly impossible to be accurate. The game is entertaining enough to make it buyable, but it is capable of so much more. If it was more like Medal of Honor, where the player has control over where and when he will throw his grenade or if the sniper rifle didn't zoom out after you shot, leaving you to wonder whether you killed the enemy or not. If the multiplayer games didn't end up reduced to 30 people fighting over the lone Spitfire on the runway. Yes, this game could be incredible if only the game designers had taken the best from each of those other great games instead of the worst.
Does not measure up to Medal of Honor

Much to complicated to have fun playing. I enjoy Medal of Honor and thought this game would provide the same level of entertainment. NOT!

Battlefield is one of the only games around these days that allows you to fly in planes, drive tanks, and dive in submarines, and still fight as infantry. Its pretty great. There are a few bugs in the game, but those should be worked out before long I imagine. This is definately worth the purchase.

I had very high hopes for EA Games new FPS called Battlefield 1942. I loved Medal of Honor: Allied Assault for the PC and Medal of Honor: Frontline for the Playstation 2. In fact Medal of Honor: Allied Assault is my favorite FPS, and has great multiplayer functionality. However, Battlefield 1942 does not compare. I installed Battlefield 1942 on a Pentium 4 XP machine, 2.2 GHZ processor, and 512 MB of ram. The single player levels took almost 2 minutes to load, and it takes approximately 30 seconds to respawn after being killed in the game. These are VERY LONG load times. And the multiplayer gaming is worse. Not only does it take a very long time to load the game, even if you playing on a server with very low pings, the game is extremely laggy. The AI is not that great, and game takes every available resource your computer has to spare. If you have a regular off the shelf type PC, you will not enjoy this game. However, If you are running a monster server with tons of RAM, you may be able to play it. Save your money, or buy Medal of Honor: Allied Assault instead.
Needs work.

First off it's a bit clunky... not just in game which can be laggy and jerky even on fast machines (P4-2ghz, Athlon 1900) with good connections (DSL) but just hitting esc to get to the options menu takes an atrociously long time sometimes. Level loads are among the slowest ever.
Single player: Bot AI is pathetically useless when it comes to driving vehicles and a little too good (or at least too quick) when it comes to aiming. Single player is very HARD, IMO.
Nit Picks: Respawn time should be adjustable at least in single player mode. If there is only one spawn point left it SHOULD BE SELECTED AUTOMATICALLY! In fact if you don't select a spawn point one should probably be selected for you. There are bugs in the control configuration interface. Some combinations aren't possible (Space for next weapon in addition to mwheel up/down, for one) When displaying who killed who it's difficult to tell which one was on your team because the same color text is used for both names.
There is alot going on in this game... perhaps too much except for the most dedicated of gamers. Definitely needs polish.
It's impressive but I think I'll be going back to MOH and TrueCombat for now.
Not Worth The Money...Not even close

I bought this game yesterday and i got a pentium 4 processor, 1.7 ghz, 512 mb ram, and a Nvidia Geforce 2 64 mb ram graphics card...and this game lags alot on single player...I installed the patch and it helps nothing...I tried it on another computer with all the same requirements except for it had 1.73 ghz, athlon processor, and ati graphics card and it worked alittle better but i still experiend lag...I dont know what is causing the problem but i might buy it again and try a different cd.
Don't bother if you don't have a GeForce4 or better.

I played the demo before the game released and the framerate .... on my GeForce2. Then I finally picked it up because of all the hype and it still ..... UT2003, RTCW and Enemy Territory run super smooth on my system with the res to 1024x768. And from what I've seen they're more fun. And how can you have a WWII FPS with no blood? I don't know how this POS got game of the year. It's not all that. Pick up Wolfenstein or download enemy territory for the best WWII sim experience.
What a game!

Battlefield 1942 picks up where Tribes 2 left off in terms of gameplay, offering fast paced multiplayer action with air, land, and sea vehicles. But 1942 is far better than Tribes2, offering a clearer concept of combined arms, and set in world war 2 rather than a science fiction universe.
Never has the Rock Paper Scissors of combined arms been presented in such a fun and realistic manner. Not only must the player choose a class with strengths and weaknesses, he must also decide whether to be infantry, a driver, a pilot, a gunner, etc. Each role demands other roles for support. This is truly a game of teamwork, and a visceral movie-like glimpse into the birth of combined arms.
The graphics are beautiful and the gameplay is excellent over a fast internet connection. Make sure you have that, and a good computer, before buying this game. Do not buy this game for the single player. The single player opponents are stupid and annoying and you are better off swallowing your fear and diving straight into multiplayer. As a multiplayer game, Battlefield 1942 is without peer.
