This game is very fun. It has very open game play that allows you to do something different each time you play. If you want to drive tanks, fly planes, command battleships be one of 5 different types of infantry troops (Assault, Engineer, Medic etc.)and relive World War 2 this is for you. The Expansion packs are cool but what is really cool about this game is that EA has put out free maps and is coming out with the 1.6 patch that has more added content and 2 more maps completely free.Including the Expansion packs there is about 35 maps total to play. There is also the Desert Combat mod which is just like a whole new game based on the current war in Iraq which is free to download. I'll stop rambling on about this masterpiece, however I will say one more thing, If you are playing CS or any other FPS its time to evolve.

This game is fun for many reasons.First off, the things you can do is insane!!!! Swipe a fighter, then abandon it (with a parachute, of course.)and kiss those bots goodbye. However, there are a few flaws. 3 words. Dang those snipers! however, blasting at infantry with an anti-naval gun is too much fun to resist!

A timeless classic from EA

Battlefield 1942 started it all for EA and its very popular Battlefield series. I remember some time ago playing the demo for BF1942 and falling in love with it knowing it would become an instant classic.

In as much as BF1942 is its own animal, I recall seeing so much of what BF1942 and later BF2 are in the Desert Storm mod built for Unreal Tournament. It seemed back then that the marriage of the FPS and the war simulation were meant to be.

Although I do not play BF1942 much anymore, the game still stands the test of time and it is a worthwhile addition to any EA fans game library. And, I'm sure there are still diehard players out there who continue to play the game on a regular basis.

For nostalgic reasons I would recommend BF1942 to any current FPS gamer who likes the Battlefield series. And, from the perspective of how a great game should look, BF1942 sets the example by which all others should take heed. Though it may appear a bit dated by current standards, it is still a fun game to play.

The Best! You will play it over and over

This game is a significant mark in the gaming history. It has got all the entertainment factors gamer is looking for. Nice graphics, breath taking missions, ease of use, u can play more than one role, sniper, medic, engineer and so on in wonderfull missions of WWII. I have finished the compaigns more than twice, and i find it real fun in multiplayer specially whenever there are more than 6 players! You can share riding a plane with a friend or drive a heavy tank together to crush your enemies. It is a really very nice game!

A great change from Medal of Honor

As I was reading the back of the game, it hit me that Battlefield was a remake of Medal of Honor. Little did I realize that when I actually played the game, I was very wrong. Battlefield 1942 has some major features that MOH could never have pulled off. In Battlefield, you take part in some of the biggest and most important operations in WW2 including the ever popular Omaha Beach and Market Garden. The gameplay is awesome. You fight alongside your allies in 12 action packed missions with very similar objectives: (capture all outposts to hold the enemy at bay), You can take the place of 5 different posistions in the army (scout, assault, anti-tank, medic, and engineer) each has special techniques and unique weapons(utilize all 5 to maximize your gaming experience). A bonus feature in Battlefield is the ability to use any kind of artillery you find in the battlefield ranging from German Panzers, Sherman tanks, AA guns, airplanes, jeeps, halftraks, the all powerful Tiger Tank, and pilot battleships, carriers, and LCPs.
So choose your side(axis or allies) and get ready for a side of WW2 you have never seen before.
Bottom Line: Battlefield 1942 is fully loaded and ready to blow you away.

This got me into online gaming and I love it!

Well what can I say about a game which takes up 20 + hours of each week... I love it! This game has it all, from first person shooter to flying planes to shooting it up in tanks... The best fun you can have with your pants on... honest!

I am talking about the online side of things only though, you will get bored senseless with the single player game, but once you get online and battle friend and foe... you wont look back!

Warning this game is not good for lasting relationships as you will want to be online day and night, trying to get that gold medal...

I have played counterstrike etc and this is so much more better!

Not a Good Single Player Experience

This is an ARCADE KIDS game. The Japanese missions use German machine guns, the air battles are lame. A landing craft approaches and drops off one or two enemy soldiers, NOT much of an invasion. If you want a serious single person gaming experience, minus great graphics, buy Operation Flashpoint + all the FREE MODS on the internet. In OF you can build missions with 100's of soldiers, tanks, boats, ect...... Good IDEA (controlling all sorts of weapons on a battlefield) behind the game, but it lacks realism. Need the option to be able to go up against massive amounts of enemy soldiers, gee kinda like in WWII for many of the battles depicted in the storyline.

The multiplayer is too cool to pass up, still can't stand the single play action. I'm now completely addicted to the online playing, it's fast, it's furious, it's a lot of fun. Still need to work on the small arms realism.
