If you like to experience intense action that can change every single time you play, as well as having a good dose of realism, then this is the wargame for you! I have played many such historical action games, and this is the best - hands down - in terms of physical realism and battle experience. If you play with a team it can be simply awesome - ask any soldier! The game is not necessarily realistic when players can change roles to become pilots, medics, infantry, or engineers at their whim - but it certainly adds a fun element to gameplay. The small downside is the slight learning curve and the necessity of having some hefty computing power available to play at its best.
W.O.W.!

WOW. This game is more realistic than it looks. You name your character, pick your weapon set, and enter the game. You can also play online if you want but theres no montly fee like some other games.
You can drive tanks, cars, walk around, throw grenades, and if you like to be stupid you can even blow up for own people ^_^
I watched my friend play this and it rules! I am getting it this week.
Great game!

I heard this game was really really good so I bought it. I liked at first, but after a few days it got boring. Not only that but it takes forever to respawn. Another thing is that its TOO realistic that the gun moves up when you shoot. They should just keep the gun straight so you could shoot more accurately. After a while the battles start becoming the same.
Single-Player isn't that great; it's the multiplayer that you want!

You should expect this to be a WWII game. Now your objectives is simple: destroy your enemy by taking the camps (or spawn points). This is a multiplayer game mostly rather than a CoD (Call of Duty) game.
Good: I really enjoyed playing the Allies because they were the heroes. I never really enjoyed playing the Axis as much. Don't just in the ESRB rating to have blood for there is no blood in the game. If you have a cable connection, you can start your own server online. I have a cable connection, so I can play a game with 64 players! You can have A.I in the game, but it is very exciting to have 64 players. You can also grab weapons from dead soldiers, drive and fry vehicles, and pick out many maps from real-time history. Also, Germans speak German, Japanese speak Japanese, Russians speak Russian, and Britsh and American speak English.
Bad: I have noticed that the weapons don't look as authentic because just because the title says "1942" doesn't mean it starts in 1942; Some levels start in 1941 while others in 1945 and so on. The guns are the problem because they weren't used in the war or something. But maybe the Allies sent weaponry to the Russians (Since they are carrying American and British weapons) It is the only explanation. But I have never seen a Japanese carrying an StG 44. They weren't even invented at that time. That is a German weapon; but hey, games will always have mistakes.
Ugly: You must have a good computer to have fun because it can lag a lot and have 64 players or lower can add excitment but annoyance at the computer slowing down. I don't really mind the lag (slowing down) but it can get annoying when taking pictures of the game. Also, you have some pretty foul-mouthed online players but not as bad as Halo and some of the previous shooters. Also a few Americans when killed will use the D-word sometimes, but it isn't the f-word at least.
I give this game 4/5 for foul-mouthed players, inaccurate weapons, and having to use cable to play online.
Little piece of crap

I shouldn't have bought this. Apparently you need to download updates for this game to work and the smallest one is around 450 MB so I had to give up multiplayer.
And the single player consists of you fighting bots who can snipe you across the map with a pistol, and just ran around instead of behaving like soldiers. You have a 'campaign' mode that basically consists of playing all the maps one after another against PC-controlled bots, that again run around sniping you with pistols.
I wasted my money. I hope you don't by avoiding this game.

I thought MOHAA was the best...then this game comes along and literally rivals MOHAA with Massively Multiplayer in which you can drive ANY VEHICLE or fly ANY PLANE or control ANY ANTIAIRCRAFT/SHORE BATTERIES it is so much fun, I was playing it untill 3:30 AM. I HIGLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME
EA Games could have done better

Battlefield 1942 could have been much better. It was written as if some amateur team at EA had done the work. Guns are not very realistic nor are the troops. EA's games in the MOH series are so much better and I would stay with that series. Either way, better have a computer with some power and be ready to tweak it maybe. I had to set (I use XP) paging (Virtual Memory) to allow auto setting as needed. This prevented crashes. By the way. I'm an Army vet and age 65!
