Thief II: The Metal Age

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 0

Thief II The metal age by Looking glass studios is a first person sneaker,Here again you need to sneak arround undetected and solve the missions without killing,There are 15 very large story driven mission,The best thing about the thief games is that you could change difficulty,You can start the game in the easy difficulty and when you start the second mission it will ask you for the difficulty setting again.Thief had a great storyline but Thief2 has a very silly story and quite a dissapointing ending.Thief 2's graphics are better than the first game and so is the sound recording but the AI needs some tweaking. The villans in thief2 are not as scary as thief one,Some of them are very silly and noisy,What idiot would keep a giant robert which would shoot cannonballs at intruders inside their homes. The noise the robert makes expecially the small one's are very annoying,They keep on talking nonsence all the time,The female gaurds are very noisy and annoying too,And the main villan in the game Karras need a throat surgery. The 15 missions in thief2 are very large and very hard to complete but not impossible i have complteted the game in the expert (hardest) difficulty. Some of the mission objective's are very hard to solve,In one level you cant kill anyone,In another you can blackjack just 2 persons,In another you need to sneak in and out of the mansion without kills, blackjacks or even without the gaurds seeing you.The gameplay is very good but sometimes frustrating expecially the levels featuring the giant roberts like the "Bank" and "Sabotage",There are not many shadows and the floor is either marble or metal very hard to move with out making sound. Some missions are superb "Life of the party", "Trial of Blood", "Blackmail", "Ambush", "Shipping and Reciving", "Framed" ect can be replayed over and over again.Thief II is a good sequal to thief but not as good as TDP,Though it has some of the best thief missions like Life of the party.Thief: The Dark Project was like a medival horror game with ghosts and scary creatures,But thief 2 has went far away from that story to sci friction.Still it is worthy of your money and i would give it 4 stars, The thief games are one of the best out there.

it is indeed a really good game and a different playing experiance, but you need a lot of patience. the controls are slick and the AI is good. looking glass has made a great game. the graphics and sound are not very good.

Good Game, but What Happened to the hammers?

This Game was fantastic sometimes really hard. The Casing Mission was extremely hard until i finally got the idea. Anyway, i think that this movie was great but I did not care for the Mechanists that much. The Hammerites rocked so much in the last game. You could never tell what they would do and they seem to be more interesting to know about then the mechanists. I would want to see more of them in the next game. Another thing I wasn't sure about was the plot. i mean it was great but Thief 1 was had alot more plot twists. Anyway, it was hard which was the way I like it, but LETS SEE MORE HAMMERS AND PLOT TWISTS. And the graphics were very good compared to the last game.

The QUAKE game for thinkers

For once, a thinking shooter that is well done. Some levels are too difficult though, but most are incredibly fun. This game is a slow-paced thinking game.

However, there was so little difference from the original that most people may forget they are playing Thief 2. The menu system is virtually identical, and the engine is becoming a nuisance. For example, the map is an important tool in Thief 2; switching between the map and gameplay takes a surprisingly long time...the makers should have made the map integrated right into the game.

Other than that, no complaints--well, maybe more updated graphics.

Best Single Player Game Ever Made

Thief: The Dark Project is without a doubt the best single player game ever made. Thief 2: The Metal Age is nearly as good as the original and has several of the best Thief missions (Life of the Party, Casing the Joint). If you don't already own it, buy this game.

I don't generally like or play computer games. The original Thief was a rare exception. The new Thief seems even better, and I'm only a few levels in. So far, no silly zombies or dark caves.

My one gripe is the game won't load on my laptop. It absolutely requires a 3D accelerator and DirectX version 7 compatible video card. The installer wasted about 15 minutes of my time, allowing me to load it only to find it wouldn't run. I was hoping to play this one when travelling, but it's a no go on my reasonably high end IBM 600E laptop. Thief 2 does run on my home PC with a relatively old ATI All-in-wonder Pro.

One more point on the install: I did a "full" install which ate nearly a gig of disk. Nevertheless, I still need to have the CD in the drive to play the game. I imagine this is for pirate protection, but it's still annoying.

The Thinking Man's Shooter

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 0

For those who enjoy the mindless slaughter started by Wolfenstein 3D, enhanced by Doom, and perfected by Quake, this is not the game for you. For those seeking a more cerebral experience from a shooter, this will be what you have been looking for.
A worthy follow-up to one of the most original games ever, The Metal Age finds master thief Garrett facing a formidable foe in the form of Karas and the Mechanists. The Mechanists have bought their way into high society by providing high tech servants and security for the city's upper class. In addition, Karas, the Mechanist leader, has labeled Garrett as a threat to the Mechanist "religion" and is working to see that he never draws another breath.
First of all, if you had problems getting through the first Thief, the sequel is going to frustrate you to death. The main thing I found to be problematic was the fact that the Mechanists have replaced a great deal of the torches with electric lights. This renders your water arrows nearly useless and makes concealing shadows few and far between.
Overall, if you are looking for a thinking man's game with a hefty dose of challenge, or if you were hooked on the first Thief, this is one game you shouldn't miss.

Almost as good as the amazing original

I've never played a game that I didn't find more intense and involving than Thief and Thief II. Thief II has a lot more story and many more tight spots that are difficult to get through.

If you enjoy tense atmosphere's, this game gives you a feeling of being the hunter and the hunted at the same time. This game is extremely enjoyable, but falls short of the first because of some of the later levels being a bit too hard. You can't beat it if you enjoy sneaking around.

The "Thief" series is incredible!

Few games are this original. Thief gives you that rush you get from being somewhere you're not supposed to be. The AI is some of the best I've seen in a PC game. The characters can see and hear you. They can call for help and run when wounded. The graphics are average quality, but the sound is excellent. Also, the storyline and acting are well done and entertaining. My only complaint is that the play control is sometimes buggy. Overall rating 5 stars!

A masterpiece

I immensely enjoyed Thief: The Dark Project, and this game is even better. While it's not so rare in the world of computer gaming for a sequel to be better than the original, the wizards at the now-defunct Looking Glass Studios had their work cut out for them in designing a game that would top the first Thief. All of the enjoyable elements are still here, along with a few new ones. (Garrett's bionic eye which replaced the eye he lost in TDP is especially handy with its zooming capabilities.) Add to this an excellent story and top-notch voice acting, and you've got a very slick game, one of the best available for the PC.
