Freezing problems

David Tate says:
Years ago I bought this game and loved it, unfortunatly it was made for Windows 95 and 98 only. So when I saw this version that advertises that is XP compatable, I bought it.
I had no problem installing the game, but when playing it if freezes the game and my computer after 1 minute of playing.
I am not sure what the problem is, but be warned; this could happen to you as well.
I wish it ran the way it did years ago.

Must Buy!

If the full game is anything like the demo, then it's a must buy. The demo has had me totally captivated since I began playing it three days ago. It's one of those games that makes you forget about all those things like eating and sleeping. I'm eagerly looking forward to the full release. This is gonna be cool.

A worthy successor to a great game I think.......

Thief 1 was one of my favorite games of all time. The premise of sneaking through the dark with nothing but your wits and a few paltry weapons (guess what, you ain't the Quake marine) gets the ol' blood pumping like nothing else. However what were the good folks at looking glass (yes...it is looking glass and not ion storm) smoking when they decided on system requirements? Requiring a Direct x 7 compatible video card is ludicrous. I don't know anyone who has a system that can run this game. That is setting yourself up for disappointing sales guys.

It's selling like hotcakes. Any questions?

I remember years ago hearing a comment critic Roger Ebert made about the movie CLOSE ENCOUNTERS which said, "That was a movie about the **idea** of what it would be like to be visited by aliens... you left it feeling shaken and a little transformed." The same comment could just as well have been made about THIEF: THE DARK PROJECT, possibly the most thoroughly original 3D accelerated PC game ever made. THIEF was a game about the **idea** of being a medieval thief stealing from obnoxious slobs with more wealth than they needed--with an impressive and surprising plot also thrown in for extra good measure. And you certainly did walk away from trying even its demo feeling shaken and transformed--THIEF didn't feel like just another game, it was an **experience**, and a breath of fresh air for players sick and tired of the DOOM and QUAKE clones being cranked out like crazy. It's sheer proof that universal ideas still work when creating entertainment. I mean, who out there as a child after encountering the story of Robin Hood didn't wonder what it must have felt like for him to steal from the rich, even if they didn't care for the story itself? Even though Garrett is an anti-hero as opposed to Robin, he still works by the same strategies. This was as close as you could get to experiencing such an idea firsthand. Garrett became the online poster boy for adventurous gamers overnight, and the game eventually swept up a huge amount of popularity and acclaim. If the ancient ZORK text adventures showed the possibilities of computer adventuring and ZORK NEMESIS later showed the genre in the process of growing up, THIEF shows it finally coming of age. Now the long-awaited THIEF II is out and selling like crazy--oh sure, it doesn't have the multiplayer option we all hoped it would have, but hey, who cares? It's even more fun than the original, because it clears out the DOOM-resembling elements in the first one that had been tossed in to try to be sure it would sell, and goes crazy with the thief concept. It too has an intriguing storyline, and there are some new tools that actually add to the experience and don't feel like tacked-on gaming gimmicks. The only two complaints I have are: (1) The animated cut scenes for some reason keep wanting to pause on me even with updated drivers, and (2) some wildly-detailed areas of some boards slow the action down to a crawl, even with my powerful PC's capabilities. I'm not sure why, and so far computer stores have been at a loss to explain. But those two things aside, THIEF II is simply THE most fun you can have on a PC today. Fellow thieves rejoice!

An Improvement over Thief Gold

This is the best game I've played. I do prefer it to the original Thief because they seem to have gotten rid of the zombies.

If I had to say something bad about this game it would be that it is so dark. Of course darkness is consistent with being a thief, but I have to play it at night with the room lights practically off.

Since I just got a new PC (733 coppermine/128MB rdram/geforce 256 64mb ddr) it runs like a dream, and I play at max resolution.

One of the best games ever

This game is one of the greatest games ever. There's nothing better than sneaking into a castle and robbing everyone. Though I do admit that I have only played the demo, besides it has to be good if even the demo makes you love the game. The game can totely freak you out though,I screamed when I was hideing behind a door and the gaurd stuck his head through the the door and I had to beat him in the head with a club, though being able to stick your head through the door is a bug it's a useful bug, because you can do it to.Once I even battled a drunk gaurd. It's great for kids to,I mean I'd know I'm 11.

Not Quite As Good As original Thief or Thief Gold

Thief II delivers better graphics and pretty much the same seamless gameplay as Thief/Thief Gold. Unfortunately, In Thief II, I found the gameplay less exciting from the lack of fear - the original Thief had creatures that just scared the pants off me and this in turn created a much longer gameplay because I found I had to sneak around a lot more.

Thief II still rates high in my book as far as PC games go, but can't compare with the original. I just love being spooked too much to give this 5 stars.
Still, I am definitely looking forward to Thief III to be released next year.

Wonderful Game

So here is how it works The Metal Age has a better STORY. The Metal Age has better missions.

Wonderful game all round frankly it is also one of a kind because no other game forces you to reley on strength, speed and wits at the same time. If you are feed up with the other games that really seem to have no point other than to blow stuff up try this game on for size.

Overall-Has the best theif mission ever--Life of the Party

A Great Strategy Game

When purchasing this game, I was excited. I even got faster shipping (somtheing I rarely do!). When it came i installed it. It was a quik install with no problems. I started playing it and I wasted 2 weekends playing it (gettin only 4 hours of sleep each night while playing). If you love strategy games, I have to say that this is a must have! The only problems I found with it is that some of the levels are a bit to difficult to beat. That is why I am giving it 4 stars.

FANTASTIC

The demo is truly something else, I spent forever playing it on expert mode and I still haven't completed it! Just to correct something here, Looking Glass Studios developed the game, not Ion Storm.
