this game is so awesome. The graphics are great and the levels are challenging and whole lot of fun. I recommend this game to anyone who likes good adventure/action games with a deep and involving storyline with great graphics.

I love gaming, and really wanted to play this game, but it was just too doggone DARK! Most of the time, the screen is completely black. I think they saved a lot on graphics development. ;o)

I played for 45 minutes, and couldn't even get inside the building! I kept getting stuck on some unseen barrier, and the map they give you shows your general location, but was not detailed enough to pinpoint where I was and show me how to get around whatever I was stuck on.

My husband played for one afternoon, and didn't see much of anything either. The screen was black about 80% of the time.

I'd like to be able to see at least an outline of what's in front of me. Maybe the next game will be "Thief III: The Cave." :o)

great concept, but...

Vastly over-rated Game. I found this game incredibly boring and tiresome, but granted my tastes run more along the lines of Quake II, Half-Life, Rogue Spear, etc. Anyway, I thought this might be an interesting alternative to the first-person shooters but I was wrong. My main hang-ups with this game were as follows: (1) While yes, it was sort of fun to "sneak" around unseen, shoot out torches with your water arrow, steal treasure, etc., I spent hours stumbling around lost the "dark" in a maze of corridors with a completely black screen, which was a complete waste of time. (2) The guards that you are sneaking around trying to avoid or knock unconscious simply are not at all scary. (3) Also, their voices are terribly acted and strange - for example, one guard will say hum dum dee dum and then ramble on about nothing in a midwestern US accent to another guard who replies with a heavy British accent - minor point but nonetheless annoying. (4) The graphics ran smooth with a Pentium II, Voodoo 3dfx, but were still very poor and unrealistic. For example, outlines of doors simply appear on your pitch black screen when you're in the "dark". I admit I'm picky about these games, but I was hugely disappointed with this one.

Crash, black and boring

I spent hours on the phone trying to get the game to work and this is running an Athlon 750 processor with a GeForce DDR 256 graphics card and 512mb ram. It kept crashing my machine, when it didn't it was too dark to see. The plot was bad and there was poor logic to tasks. It just dragged on, Thief was much better and didn't try to be too clever. Don't buy this!

Steeling has never been so good!

Thief - The Dark Project was an example of gaming genius. Was there ever a game where you had to complete levels WITHOUT killing anyone. It game out the same time as Half Life and other First Person Shoot em ups but here we had a classic First Person Sneak em up. There wasn't another game like it!

So how does the sequel play? Even better! Looking Glass studios did something superb when they asked gamers what they wanted to see in Thief - The Metal Age. It is everything the first instalment was and more so if you liked the first one you will love this! Not only are the graphics and 3D engine looking as good as ever but the story line is better, there are LESS Zombies and more Thieving. The human characters talk to eachother more and there is a better atmosphere. There are new objects like the Zooming Eye and the ability to look around walls by throwing a device that can see around itself. The maps can now be written on so you can take notes and like the first there are 3 levels of difficulty for each level. This is superb also cos you can go back and replay levels so there is a better element of lastability. Back to its Theiving Best!

The Levels are HUGE and wont be completed easily but you can save the game as often as you want which lately hasn't been the normal in a First Person Game.

All in all Thief The Metal Age is a very rewarding and brilliant game that has lived up to the high standards it predecessor had set. It has not become a sequel which feels like "just an add on pack", its a sequel with new features which has made it even better.

Steeling has never been so good! Go buy it now!

A game like this needs an AI as good as Half-Life but that is missing here.

Mission Impossible

Much better than the first one. There are only 15 missions in the complete game but each mission will take hours to complete. Only thing i didnt like is the noise the gaurds make, Even though i am well aware of the difficulty of play and should not be killing anyone i just couldnt resist sending a couple of arrows to silence him.

By the way i heard that looking glass has closed down. OH NO! Does that mean no Thief III.

this poor guy again...

i just love the first game and this sequel is even better. i found the first one so good and funny. now this is even better. the characters are a bit stupid-they're too busy sleeping or drinking or something like that to even notice you especially if you are standing right in front of them. i still feel sorry for this guy again. he's a nut!! (even thought what he says reminds me of what i usually say anyways)he doesn't want anyone or anything to see him but he/you can't see anything either oh such as the edge of a roof or something. the scenry is great especialy when you are falling off the rooftop. this is an excellent game you will have fun and if you're like me-laugh you head off(not literally)
