Boring and Tedious

I have to say that I could not WAIT to buy this game when it originally came out. I was a huge fan of the first one and recommended it to everyone that was interested. I would not do the same with this one. I actually did not find the darkness to be a problem as many of the other people who have written reviews here did. What I did find to be a problem were the following:

1) storyline/plot, was very unintriguing.

2) the level of difficulty was extremely high, yet unnecessarily so. I want to clarify this statement - I enjoy challenging games. In fact, the more challenging, the better usually. However, the challenges in Thief 2 were what I would call "unskilled challenges". They were based more on how long you had the patience to check each square foot of every hallway in order to find a key or some such object. If you find it, it's not that you solved any kind of puzzle to reason where it was placed. It was just dumb luck requiring pointless hours of time painstakingly scouring a building ... if you like that kind of thing, great. I don't. Many of the levels required tedious tasks such as the above.

3) I agree with another reviewer that the foes were essentially unscary. The first Thief really provided a level of intrigue and suspense with the monsters and the plot. This one did not even come close.

All in all, I was wholly disappointed with the game. In fact, I almost didn't even feel like finishing it. I hope you enjoy it more than I did if you decide to buy it.

TRY IT. Better than the original!

If you enjoy first person shooters, but want more than mindless carnage out of your gaming experience, then you **** MUST TRY THIEF 2 ****.

I was sceptical that Thief would be able to hold my attention as the premise seemed to be based on avoiding confrontation. I thought "how boring!". But that is not the case. This is a game of quiet, heart-pounding tension. Hiding in the shadows, listening at doors, waiting for just the right moment to either strike or slide silently by in the shadows.

If you are a FPS fan or a classic RPG fan, try this game. It mixes the best of both the first person shooter as well as the story and strategy of a classic RPG.

This game is great. Its storyline was very eratic which had un-eventful plot twists. I like how the City Watch and the Mechanists worked together and how woman were Mechanists and City Watch personal along with men. In the last game, all the guards were men. One part that we dis-appointing was that the Hammerites were gone. In one of the last levels and the second level you see Hammerities but I would have wanted to see more of those fanatics. As well as arguments and fighting between the Mechanists and the Hammerites.

I enjoyed the idea of more voices in the game instead of just 5 voices for the servants and guards. It was really neat to see and hear differant people and voices. And the new weapons and tools was a nice touch as well.

The graphics were also a very good improvment. Blood staines were more life like and faces and weather features were as well. There is rain, fog and all these cool weather features that gave "The City" a nice gloomy touch. And then idea of the mechanical life and intelligance like the Mechanist Eyes, Mech-Guards and Mech-Workers. The game was a large improvement and I praise Eidos and Looking Glass for all that they did. Good Work.

This game RULES!!!

Thief 2 seems a little less convoluted than the first game. There were some really long and arduous levels in the that one!
The same stealth and tension remains in 2 and the graphics are O.K. but in all seriousness not that much different from the first.
The different levels are varied and beautifully scripted. One time you may be required to steal certain items from a Lord the next, simply follow a guard through the streets without being detected. The whole atmosphere is one of tension and fear. You may enter into a room where guests chat and pass comments about characters you are after. Thief 2 is an example of how computer games are pushing the standards of gaming and story lines. It's not for Serious Sam fans, but it is for lovers of beautiful game design and carefully crafted atmosphere.

Turn up the gamma!

I've read some reviews here where people say they don't like this game becausue "it is black most of the time". It's not MEANT to be that dark. The designers said in the manual that you should be able to see where you are going, no matter how dark the screen. Turn up the gamma setting in the "Options" screen and you will enjoy Theief more (hopefully). Anyway this is a very atmosphereic, tense and enjoyable game, but I'll take a star off it because of some of the voice acting, which was sometimes awful.

Thief 2 far outdoes Thief the dark project. It has better graphics, a better stoyline, new weapons, and more challenging enemies for the expert thief. This game goes down as one the most played in my book. You will replay this game over and over. If you liked it as much as I did. This is a fantastic game for the money. If you liked the first thief a little bit you will love this...buy this game and you will never regret it. You can download more levels off some sites if you have already mastered the game. The mod levels are just as detailed as the ones created by looking glass.

Sorry, but this one will be short. I see other people have gone in depth about this game.

here are the facts: It is fun. it is a bitch sometimes, and it is NOT a shooter. It plays like any first person adventure, but you have to sneak around a lot (like Planet of the Apes) and learn to fire a bow over long distances - which they did excellently on graphics-wise.

If you are reading this you probably are wondering "if" you should buy it. Yes. Trust me.
