This game is the best yet. The graphics are great as usual. This is what the back cover reads:
All is not well in Blackmoor Manor, a Fouteenth Century English mansion haumted by a tragic past.
Spooky isn't it. Well hope you like it!!!

Ok, this is the Nancy Drew game that I haven't beaten...yet. It is freaky yet interesting, in a way. Ok, so you have bad dreams, and you hear noices, and things, but there IS a slide involved! You'll find that out once you get the game. I like this game, even though it's a "little on the spooky side" as Nancy takes to calling it. Can you figure out why Eleanor, supposedly the witch in the family of the Penvellyns, or the beast of blackmoor, just came around and "popped in for a visit?" A game of freaky music, adventure, and puzzles, this is a 5 star game you MUST GET! By the way, its good to use when you have friends sleeping over, because then you won't be as scared.

At first you get a little frusterated because you get a little stuck but after you know what your doing its easier. The thing that took me the longest was the spinning rooms and how to start the forge it took me from December 1 2004 to November 20 2005 ( of course i didn't play it for a few months)! The most surprising was the criminal I never would have guessed. This one was the hardest even harder that the secret of the scarlet hand I wish that you could put a password in the individual saved games because some how my sisters game got saved over mine and I had to start over
Happy Sluething!

On an action packed adventure to "Toys-r-us", I purchased what I think were three Nancy Drew games. I am shamelessly addicted to them and am not intending to fix it. One of the ones I picked up was "Nancy Drew - Curse of Blackmoor Manor" and I forgot about it for some time. I was so hooked on Danger on Deception Island and others to remember this last one. But recently I found it and popped it in, excited I had something else to play.
I'm surprised this game didn't trigger an anurism in my brian.
This game is VERY puzzle-happy. And while puzzles are great, they get really annoying. Any time you need to retrieve anything its another puzzle. The little girl character, Jane, retains a lot of information you need, and the only way to get it out of the brat is by playing games with her that are more meticulous than entertaining.
The story is rather bad too. They set you up with what could have been an AMAZING story. Witchcraft, classic languages, money scandal...
And then instead of really playing on any of that, they pour some oil into a hole in the middle of the night and you're shuffling about like a troll collecting random stones that you have NO idea how to use until the very end.
I'll give it to Her Interactive that the characters were pretty good. Jane was a tad unrealistic and so was the curriculum being beat into her brain. Nigel Mookerjee sounds like he's telling a campfire story even in casual conversation, and Lady Whose Name Escapes Me At the Moment, she talks to plants. However their personalities were agreeable and some made me laugh a few times.
I think the laughter prevented the anurism actually.
If your logic is impeccable or you like real brain busters, this game is for you.
However if you like mystery, adventure, and well written story lines that keep you hooked until the very end, I don't recommend it, I didn't even finish the game.

The Curse of Blackmoor Manor offers hours of investigative fun and challenge. The game plot is intriguing and plausible--very well written. Graphics are unbelievable! The puzzles within the game that are presented to the gamer are extremely challenging, but workable. A support system is available on-line with Her Interactive. Some portions of the game are perhaps too scary for young players. Parent supervision would be adviseable.

Mrs. Drake scares me very badly! She is deadly! The box at the end fell on me! Ethel has a great singing voice though my brother thinks she has bad gas! I like the easy bake oven and Jane's false teeth! They're awesome!

This game would be great if they would leave out the stupid, mindless puzzles. I spent hours in a darkened maze, that I finally had to get on the internet and get the solution. And then I immediately get to another puzzle played against the computer, and I cannot win, even though I had the solution. On another segment, I also had the solution and couldn't get it to work for what seemed an eterntiy. It finally did, but geez.
I used to play the King's Quest games and they had some logic to them. On Nancy Drew you just go from one puzzle to another. Or you have to read pages and pages of junk, in case you need it later. Oh why can't someone invent some good adventure games. I played Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake and I liked it, but they had to give you hints in order to make it through BECAUSE THERE'S NO LOGIC to the game whatsoever, and that's because they would have to actually work instead of just making stupid, mindless puzzles.
If I wanted a puzzle I could go buy one of those games.
These games have such potential if they would limit their use of the puzzles.
Awesome!!!

This is an awesome game. It has many puzzles, has a nice length, and will keep you at your edge at all times. This game is a real thriller! With many twists and turns, you'll finally realize why there is a CURSE OF BLACKMOOR MANOR.
Such a Shame...

Oh my, I really, really, REALLY didn't enjoy this game.
When I play the games (and I've played them all), I like to start on the Senior level and play without help. I don't mind wracking my brain, stepping away, and coming back to something.
But this game? I couldn't play without a great deal of help. I never really understood what I was doing or why or how. I really didn't learn much either. And that's what I've always loved about the games - walking away knowing a little bit more about something than I did going in.
