When I first got "Message in the Haunted Mansion" I was amazed! Now I'm hooked. These are the best computer games I've ever played(With the Sims 2 right up there)! But The Curse of Blackmoor Manor was definetly had the best graphics, music, and it was exciting. Definetly get it! You will play hours at a time! Many hard puzzles and a beautiful mansion to look through. This is also the first with a child, and it has a talking parrot. I mean, how cool is that? lol. But really, you should buy it!

OCCULT FUN!!

Blackmoor is a fun game! Great puzzles, independent smaller games (board games, cards, memory, etc.) that are actually fun to play (and this, I think, is something of a novelty, games inside of games), rich characterization, great classic story, controls that are for the most part quick and intuitive, (important for impatient games like myself.) But Blackmoor is also smart. Ptolemy is here, Greek mythology, astrology (Chinese, too), runes, the planets including their symbols, horticulture, astronomy, gargoyles, alchemy, too. Jane, a young character in the game, is being tutored at the Manor in the "proper" studies, which include French, History, and some other things which are to remain secret. Sometimes on passing her door while she is in a lesson, you can overhear her French lesson, a real French lesson. Or a real History lesson, the Hundred Years War, or Waterloo. Also, each other name and symbol used in the game is the real deal. Runes,The Book of the Dead, Latin, planetary symbols, zodiac, constellations. And Alchemy, genuine names and symbols. Fantastic! However, I feel that parents maybe should get a heads-up first about the content, because the game's target audience is "10 & Up". Some parents may hesitate to expose a 10-year-old child to these concepts. Golden Dawn parents, get this game! I gave the game four stars because, as a Nancy Drew game, there are a lot of clues and hints, in the cell phone, in the diary, Nancy herself, and some of the puzzles can ONLY be solved using an obscure give-a-way that can ONLY be found in the "cheat" diary. This is not Myst. But it is probably what a kid plays before he/she grows up to play 'Dark Fall'. Toodles!

Very challenging, but fun!

This is one of the hardest games I've played so far from the Nancy Drew series! It is much more difficult than her earlier one's. I find all of the puzzles to be challenging in this game. It's great! This is definetly a game worth buying! You really get your money's worth. If you want a really challenging mystery game this one fits the bill. Its hours and hours of puzzles and mystery! Great game!

Both daughters love playing the Nancy Drew Mysteries. It provides hours of entertainment and helps them with logical thinking and the ability to solve problems.

Blackmoor is Not Easy, But a Classic None-the -Less

I have played a few other Drew games, in comparison, this is quite a complicated game.

I played "The secret of the Old Clock" before this, and breezed through it. I played "Treasue in a Haunted Mansion" (after Blackmoor) and found it too boring and quit.

The game does deal with Astronomy, Astrology, Botany, Typing, Research, Memory, Geometry and a lot of Mathematical word problem solving skills.

The authors of the game did create a spooky enviornment, which is no easy feat for a point and click QVR slide show game. I actually thought something or someone was going to pop out and grab me just around the next corner throughout the entire game.

Some of these puzzles are very complicated and really quite involved. It is going to be difficult and challenging for the average adult much less a teen. It requires more reading and studying the other Drew games I played.

As far as game mechanics, I'm not a fan of point and clicks in general. I would have preferred to have Nancy move in a 3rd person 3-D enviornment much like the early Amaze-Know Wonder Potter games. I did find the frame loads distracting. But as far as the point and clicks go, Nancy is definitely the most fun and "Blackmoor" the most challenging of the lot.

As far as subject matter, they could have transferred the subject matter to a farm, and renamed it "Nancy Drew and the Curse of the Bale of Hay" and no one would have bought it. I personally don't know anything about astrology or the occult and I played "Blackmoor", and I still don't know anything about those subjects. While I did recognize the names of some major star constellations, my guess is the authors just made most of the stuff up (as JK Rowling did for the Potter series). The game is as innocuous as those "Haunted House" rides at the amusement parks (for those of us way too chicken to go on the big really scary roller coaster).

A year after Blackmoor's release, EA's Potter fiasco "Goblet of Fire" movie coordinated game had a quest (in regular gameplay) called the "Vanishing Cards" or find the cards before they vanish. The concept definitiely was borrowed from Blackmoor's "13 Ghosts" or find the ghosts before they vanish side quest. I found it interesting that the only quest requiring minimal thought (in that debacle) was borrowed from Nancy Drew.

Other games have borrowed ideas from Blackmoor, also. The game is almost a reference point for many games that came after it.
There's a lot to do. There's so much to do, I wished I had something else to look at, that encompassed a larger area, instead of taking on new challenges in the same space.

I wish I could give Blackmoor 4 1/2 stars, but there is no provision for that.

Ok I played this game and it was OK in the beginning but as you progress through the game it gets very boring and I admit the puzzles were kind of purplexing but not as hard as Her Interactive reported it being and it was also NOT as scary as Her Interactive said it would be either... So my conclusion is that The Curse of Blackmoor Manor was a cheesy game, and you SHOULD think twice before purchasing this game from Amazon or anywhere else... If you want a scary Nancy Drew Software Game than I reccomend either The Final Scene or The Message in the Haunted Mansion...

You've already heard about how great this game is from other reveiewers, so I don't need to say much. I'd like to say one thing though. Most people think this game is just for preteen girls. But, that's not true. Curse of Blackmoor Manor, along with all the other Nancy Drew Games are games that are for all ages. From children to elderly, including men! I promise you these games will become a part of you. Once you start it's impossible to get them off your mind. You will become addicted! Curse of Blackmoor Manor is no exception. I am a male, one of my friends had me try one, and I have become a huge fan! It doesn't matter if you're male, I didn't think I'd like it either. I didn't want to play this dumb little girl game! But I played it, and now I can't stop! Men! You have to try this game! It's for you too! Believe me, it will be worth your time!!!!!!!

Overall, this game is excellent! It has several new elements that previous Nancy Drew games do not. To begin with, this is the first game to have an animal that you can interact with. Also, this is the first game to have a younger character in the game at all. I really liked this game because it has quite a few games to play and "tasks" to complete. The characters interesting; however; you don't get to interact with some of them very often. This Nancy Drew game is definitely one of the scariest and most "real." It doesn't leave you wishing it was longer-it took me the most time out of all the games to complete. I would absolutely suggest buying it!

Any one who rates this game less than 5 is wrong!

Any one who thinks this game is less than 5 stars is wrong! this game deserves a 5 star rating! why? well perhaps because:
- the plot of the game is awesome!
- It may be challenging but it is so fun
- the graphics rock!
- characters are amazing ( in a way)
- and interesting secrets!
So there are many MORE good things about this game. This game rocks! Buy it!It's worth the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
