Super Paper Mario is flippin' awesome!

Super Paper Mario is a genius combination of a old-school side-scroller and a RPG. When you flip, it's like a whole new game! The controls are perfect for the wii remote, and the dialougue is often funny. With four members of you team, Mario, who can flip, Peach, who can glide with her umbrella, Bowser, who can breathe fire and has double attack power, and Luigi, who has super jump capabilities. It also has an amazing ending *SPOILER ALERT* In-between chapters, when the screen goes black and there is a conversation between Timpani and Bluimire, well, Timpani is actually Tippi, the PIXL, and Bluimire is.......COUNT BLECK!!!!

Extraordinarily Disappointing

I was previously unaware of the "Paper Mario" franchise. However, I rushed out to buy this game, because I have been a big fan of every other Mario/Luigi game released for the various Nintendo platforms. I have never been so disappointed by a video game purchase in my life. I have basically given up after an hour and a half of play.

We are supposed to forgive poor graphics on the Wii, because it has innovative game play. Not only are the graphics for this games some of the most painful I have seen, but it does not take advantage of the Wii remote. The couple of actions you can perform with the remote are clearly an after thought, and the game would be better off without them.

My first hour and a half with this game was filled almost entirely by trying to rush through reading an extremely poorly written story. During that time, no interesting skills are learned nor are there any significant enemies.

Perhaps gamers who were aware of and enjoy the Paper Mario franchise will feel differently; however, I highly doubt that anybody who was a fan of prior Mario Bros. games will enjoy this one even slightly. I will be trading this game in ASAP.

Pros:
None that I can find.

Cons:
Painfully bad graphics.
Poorly written storyline.
Overly long-winded characters.
Overly simple game play.
No control suitable for the Wii.

Super Paper Mario- In 3-D!!!

Being a fan of the Paper Mario (and whatever Mario) franchise in general, I rushed out to buy this game. From what the previews demonstrated, it was going to be a RPG/Platform game, removing the turn-based element of the previous Paper Marios and inserting the platforming style that made Mario so popular to begin with.

In this game, Mario has to, gasp, save the world from Count Bleck and the universal doom predicted by the Dark Prognistus. In this, he receives the aid of Pixls, partners that allow Mario to do certain things (throw, set off bombs, glide over spikes). Mario also has the ability to flip the world sideways, adding an element to the platformer you once knew and loved. Additionally, it's not just Mario at the driver's seat. The game will eventually require you to alternate between Mario, Peach, Luigi, and Bowser. Paper Mario is famous for using puzzles so you must constantly switch up your main characters or your current Pixls.

Leveling up is tied directly to your score, where you can improve your HP or your Attack Power. Hopping on foes and then performing "Stylish Moves" by moving the Wii-mote after jumping on a foe increases your points. There are also items to collect, some that attack your enemies, some that replenish your health, and the Mega-Star that transforms your character into a temporary 8-bit behemoth (apparently, Peach was a redhead).

Despite all this, there are disappointments. Frankly, it's not as challenging as I anticipated. It's difficult to fail if you were fairly decent at the original platformers (i.e. not jumping on creatures with spikes). The storyline, although quirky and humorous as usual, only spanned about 20 hours of gameplay, ignoring all the numerous secrets spread out on the map. It's easy to tell this was a GameCube based game, even though there are some attempts to incorporate newer Wii functions. Also, the Pixls were introduced and tucked away. The partners from the previous Paper Mario (a baby Yoshi, a bashful Koopa, etc.) had their own HP and more noticeable personalities. The Pixls hover around Mario like butterflies. Only Tippi, the first and main Pixl you get, has any real dialogue.

Overall, I thought this game was an 8/10. The result of the RPG/Platforming fusion was that the bosses were too easy. But I still loved it and encourage others to play it.

Super Paper Mario is Fun, Fun, Silly-Willy!

This is just a fun game. I enjoy it as someone who grew up playing the original Nintendo when I was a kid. I bought the Wii so that we could play games together as a family and it is a great machine to do that with. Super Paper Mario mixes the best of the old school Super Mario Bros. with the 3-D of a modern game. I love switching from 2D to 3D at the press of a button. You see things from a completely different angle and it is cool and fun. One boss is defeated by quickly switching back and forth and then hitting him when he comes close. My kids love this game and can't wait for me to get home from work so that I can play some more or watch them play. I highly recommend this game to anyone who has a Wii.

too much text and adventure

Super Mario has always been a game of quick playing and not much talking. This one is different, you spend over 30 minutes of clicking all the text and speeches at the start, gameplay is good, but a little bit kiddy.

Wish the dialog was cut out

This game would be so much better without the lengthy pointless dialog. Aside from that the game is super fun and addicting.

Good for the inexperienced gamers

My boyfriend got me this game because I'm terrible at video games. I enjoy this one because I can actually play it. It's easy enough to play and to "figure" out. If you get stuck anywhere the pixls or characters help you find your way.

The annoying part of the game.
It seems that the gamers wanted to "fill up space" so they have long dragged out stories (which you can't skip) and they make you go in complete circles and frustrating mazes which are more annoying that "puzzling". At one point of the game, I think Chapter 6 or 7, all you do is run forward for a good 15 minutes. Pretty annoying.

Otherwise, guys it's a good game to get your g/f to play if she's not too hand/eye coordinated like me. Overall, it's pretty enjoyable. I'm at the last chapter and I can't wait to be done with it so I won't have to look at this game ever again.

Fun, but too much dialog and too short

The game was a lot of fun, probably the best Wii game out there.

As already stated, there's a lot of dialog and sometimes the game depends on you reading and remembering it to succeed. Don't get me wrong, games with heavy dialog (like the Final Fantasy series) can help suck you into the game, but in this case the dialog is often boring, sometimes stupid, and annoying (I'll never get the bleep-blop noise of the revealing dialog out of my head).

My other gripe is that the actual fun part of the game is too short (I did use a walkthrough to help at times, but that was to get unstuck). If you avoid the trials (pits of 100, and full sammer contest), and quickly clicked through most of the dialog, you could potentially solve the game in a day.

I felt like the game was easy (most of the time you have to be pretty careless to die) with some useless time eating chores (dialog, sections that repeat, unobvious solutions to some puzzles, earning coins, etc.). Graphics are great and make clever use of the limited graphics hardware by making most things 2D. There are lots of hidden mini-games and extras, so use a walkthrough or else you might miss them. Some chapters give you rewards if you go back and play them a second time.

alot of reading

It seems like it takes 20 minutes to get started with this game with all the back story and reading you have to do at first. But then it gets fun and its super cute!

Super Paper Mario...It's loads of paper fun!

My wife bought this game for me, because I love the RPG Mario games. Paper Mario, Paper Mario the Thousand Year door, and even Mario RPG. So I sat down and started playing this game, and quickly realized that it is more like the old mario games. No RPG involved. It was a little dissapointing, but the game is fun. There are a ton of levels, and the story is ok, I enjoyed being able to switch to Bowser and Peach as playable characters. I recommend this game to anyone who loves mario games. If you liked the RPG feel of the other Paper Mario's I do not recommend this game. Good game, worth a rent and maybe even a buy if you like it.
