In 1997, Rare breathed new life into the genre of first-person shooter games by releasing Goldeneye. To this day, some gamers feel that Goldeneye was the best game on the Nintendo 64.

Soon after, EA bought the rights to the James Bond franchise and released the lackluster Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and 007 Racing for the Playstation. After three flops, gamers wondered why Rare lost the Bond license in the first place.

Fortunately, EA pulled its act together for James Bond's first outing on the Playstation 2. Entitled "007: Agent Under Fire," this is an original game that finally gives Goldeneye a run for its money. EA created an original story for the new game, and they've succeeded on that front. Agent Under Fire has everything that a 007 game should have: Bond girls, Q gadgets, heavily armed cars, and over-the-top villains.

Seasoned gamers will first notice that the controls for 007: AUF are the same as those in Medal of Honor. Seeing as how Medal of Honor was one of the best first-person shooters on the original Playstation, that can't be bad. But 007: AUF can't be classified as a simple FPS. Several of the missions have the player driving Bond's Aston Martin, firing at enemy vehicles. In other missions, the computer controls the driving while the player fires the weapons at oncoming enemies. These missions are very exciting, and they're a fresh playing experience that adds interest to what would have been a straight FPS.

EA has done an excellent job recreating the feel of the James Bond films. The graphics are very realistic. You will look twice at the digital Bond to make sure that it's not the real Pierce Brosnan. Players are rewarded for discovering secrets and using the Q gadgets creatively. And 007: AUF captures Bond's personality perfectly in the cut scenes that tell the game's story. The player is just a dry martini away from becoming Bond.

One of the things that made Goldeneye great was the multiplayer mode. 007: AUF repeats this tradition. The multiplayer levels are alright, and there's plenty of variety in the multiplayer missions. Some force the players to diffuse bombs, others are variations on the game of Capture the Flag. But Goldeneye still has the better multiplayer mode, thanks to its use of classic Bond villains. The characters EA created for 007: AUF just aren't as exciting as Jaws and Oddjob.

007: Agent Under Fire is a good first outing for Bond on the Playstation 2. The game offers a lot of variety and plenty of plot, which are rare in most first-person shooters. People who have played their share of first-person shooters will find enough depth in the game to come back for more, while casual gamers will be blown away by the entire experience. This game lacks the innovation of Goldeneye, but it's still not to be missed.

What starts out looking like a perfectly rendered, but easy, shooter game gets tougher, longer and more exciting with each level. You've never seen graphics, sounds and stories like this. Each level flows perfectly to the next, there is a mix of shooting, driving... everything you could want. Easily the best playstation 2 game I've ever played. Ever.

Best Bond since Goldeneye

Agent Under Fire is the first playable Bond game since the groundbreaking Goldeneye. Although I like the N 64 controls much better, and I really wish I could make cumstom controls for AUF (there are several controller settings, but none of them are what I would like), this game still manages to beat out the laughable games of "The World is Not Enough" and "Tomarrow Never Dies".

I have yet to decide if this game is better than Timesplitters. Mainly because I have not yet had the chance to play multi-player against anyone other than my 12 year old brother (he's good, but not that good). But the single player is deffinately better than Timesplitters, and although different, ranks up there with Red Factions single player.

007 Agent Under Fire: Best PS2 Game?

007 Agent Under Fire Could quite posibly is the best playstation 2 game on the market right now. Just as Goldeneye revolutionized the nintendo 64, this will be revolutionizing the playstation for a while to come.

First of all the single player is awsome to say the least. The graphics are A+ and the story is beter than a few bond movies themselves. While it is a bit hard to learn all the controls, in less than an hour I had it masterd. The levels are humongous and leave quite a challenge to beat the whole level, and earn a platinum medal. (Good luck on that)

Secondly, the multiplayer is equal in funness (If that is a word) to its nintendo 64 cousin. The graphics on this are awsome too, and I noticed no slow down at all.

So...if you love james bond, action games, statagy games, or just playing with a few friends, pick up this game. I give it an A+++

Goldeneye still reigns supreme

What IS it about these last FOUR 007 games (Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, 007 Racing and now Agent Under Fire)??? They all fail to live up to the gameplay/storyline of the magnificent Goldeneye. For those of you reading the advance 'reviews' proclaiming this to rival Goldeneye should listen to those of us that just wasted 50 dollars to purchase: The Game Is Not Enough - to rip off a recent Bond title. Save your money and rent this - you'll finish it in the 5 day rental period and thank me for it. The game is far too short. Q, M and even James himself blurt in to explain the obvious at every turn and there is no way to turn that feature off. Takes all the fun out of exploring and insults the gamer. I'm going to have to dig out my N64 and plug Goldeneye back in to get my fix now....

Very Good, But Not Great

I have been a long-time fan of the Bond franchise, and when I saw this game for PS2 I knew I had to have it. It looked impressive and in the end I have to admit, it was very entertaining, but certainly not a masterpiece.

Now don't get me wrong, "Agent Under Fire" will provide you with hours of fun as you step into the shoes of secret agent, James Bond. Your objective: through a series of twelve missions investigate a clone conspiracy and take down the people in charge. You can do this using a variety of weapons and gadgets while sometimes driving souped up cars that incorporate machine guns and rocket launchers. Sounds cool, right? It is, and the great multiplayer action (which is as good if not better than Goldeneye's) only adds to the excitement you'll experience. The graphics are amazing as well providing realistic face expressions and environments.

However, if you are looking for a game that requires a brain to complete and a more interesting and complex plot, I would recommend "Metal Gear Solid 2", because if you face the facts, "Agent Under Fire" is simply a typical action game with a shoot-em'-up-bang-bang premise.

Entertaining:YES
Must-Have:NO

"I'll have a martini, shaken not stirred!" You're going to need some alcohol to play previous Bond Games (except for Goldeneye.) "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "The World is not Enough" were total digraces to 007 fans. Even if you aren't a Bond fan, you should enjoy Goldeneye and this game! I was mad that previous Bond games didn't have multi-player, good graphics, challenging missions, or enough levels! Previous games were way too short and easy, and we were all left suffering with no multi-player Death Match! This game looks GREAT, even for non-Bond fans. Plus this game isn't taken off of one movie, like other ones, where you knew what to do if you saw the movie. I'm getting this one for Christmas!

Nice job, but EA could still do better...

No matter what, 007 Goldeneye for N64 (developed by Rareware), will be the best first person shooter for this classic series. Not only because of the high fun factor, but also because of the high replay value it has. You can play it again and again, not to mention the multiplayer mode, which is great. 007 Agent Under Fire, by EA Games, got close enough. Levels have great graphics and details, there are different modes including driving the BMW Z8 in the streets, multiplayer is fun, after you get the hang out of it. To synthesize:

Highs:
- Enemies have high IQ's
- Cool graphics
- Nice weapon arsenal, very detailed
- Great multiplayer mode
- Two words: Bond Girls.

Lows
- Bodies disappear after you have shot them
- Only 12 levels in the whole game
- Bond's face is horrible

Verdict:
You'll definitely finish the game fast (even in Agent mode), but if you like a good multiplayer game, this is the closest you'll get to Goldeneye. Fun factor (4/5)

It's not Goldeneye

Okay AUF is a great game in my opinion. It has action, girls, guns, cars, etc. I find it fun and refreshing and something better than tradintional FPS. People complain that it's not like Goldeneye. It wasn't supposed to be. It was supposed to be a fun little action game for Bond fans and gamers alike. I think the multiplayer is great and that the options in there are just plain cool. However, single player could be left a little desired I found out that it is fun to go back a second time to unlock everything. It might take you more than that. I found the game fun and orginal. If you like Bond but like serious FPS like Half Life, then give it a rental first before purchase. If you like fun little action games with an awesome multiplayer, then get Agent Under Fire.

Not very relistic? Stupid enemies?! MEDIOCRE GAMEPLAY???!!!!! Now look here, you children who are writing reviews; those of you who are making negative comments on this game must be so crazy, that you hate [almost] everything. This game is the most fun game Iv'e ever played, and for a good reason. It may have parts in it that are really hard, but if everything went smoothly and easily in the game, it would be no fun. Unfortunately, most of you people don't think first before you write your reviews. You write about how there are very tough areas in the game, as if it's a bad thing. Then you probably learn from your mistaken belief, but 2 LATE!! Your misleading review is on this website, and will stay on for years. Anyway, these weapons are ones that you should use:

The Dartgun:
Downs 'em in one shot!!

The 017:
50 round clip, and good gun!

The KS7:
Fun to shoot because of rate of fire! Good gun, too!

The P-Cannon:
HOMING AMMO, WHICH DOWNS 'EM IN ONE SHOT!!!!!!

All of the pistols are good

The UGW:
Good rate of fire, good power. Nice scope!

Grenade Launcher:
You all know this one well!

Missile Launcher:
Explosions galore!

And Much More!

The graphics are great, the sound is unbelievable, and the gameplay is best! Buy it, buy it, buy it, buy it, BUY IT!
