Not Very Good At All...

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 3 / 3

The conquest for any big-screen to PS2-screen game is just simply to be good. The plots always become to developed without you actually doing anything to invoke it, just shooting some people, and sitting through a cut scene. This game is no exception. There seems to be no storyline continuing into the actual gameplay, just the cut scenes. The levels don't allow any exploring. Further more, even though I enjoy an easy, fairly quick game, AUF takes both of those to extremes. If you're good, these measly 11 levels can be beaten in 2 hours.

There are two good parts though. The controls are good, allowing you to scroll through Q's gadgets easily. The second is the multiplayer mode, with about ten unique environments, and cool weapons.

Overall: Buy only for the multiplayer mode.

This game is awesome! If you liked GoldenEye then you'll love this game. There is everything from car racing to blasting the bad guys with various weapons. Don't let this one pass you by. I played EA's other Bond games and they were a disgrace to the Secret Agent's name. This one has todally brought EA back up to par. If you liked Perfect Dark's multiplayer then you'll love this. All I can say is... Freak'n Cool! Buy this right now! Did I mention the names Bond. James Bond.

This Bond Video Game is the first one of the new generation of Bond Games. All the ones before this were taken from movies (Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, etc.). But this is the first one made with an original storyline and all-new characters. Here's my Review:

Characters:

James Bond: British Agent working for the MI6.

Zoe Nightshade: American CIA agent who is working on a case involving stolen, unknown viles. An ally of Bond's

Adrian Malprave: CEO of Malprave Industries. Works with close ally, Nigel Bloch. An enemy of Bond's.

Nigel Bloch: CEO of Identicon Corporation, which is mostly a front for his criminal activity. You will encounter him in many battles throughout the game.

R: Head of gadget and weopon technology in the MI6. He will help Bond throughout the game.

M: Head of the MI6. Gives details of Bond's missions.

Dr. Natalya Damescu: Former DNA leading researcher for Malprave Industries. Now an enemy of Malprave, and an ally of Bond. You must help her in Romania, for Malprave wants her dead.

Carla the Jackal: Hired assassin working for Malprave. You must defeat her, before she gets to Damescu.

Reginald Griffin: British Diplomat at the British Embassy. His whereabouts are unknown, but Bond must find him, for the stolen viles that Nightshade was investigating contain a sample of his blood.

Malprave's Plot: Malprave wishes to assassinate 8 of the world's leaders and replace them with clone replicas, thus causing worldwide economical and political disaster. She will then continue to do this with other leaders through the process of smuggling the viles of their blood through Bloch's Identicon Corporation, and shipping them to her underwater cloning facility, Poseidon, in the South China Sea.

The story will make more sense as you play it. I like this game. It has 12 action-packed levels, including 4 Driving missions. Bond explores through Identicon in Hong Kong, to a British Embassy in Romania, to Malprave Industries in Switzerland, and even to an Oil Rig in the South China Sea. This game has it all. A must Buy!

Not bad, could be better

Goldeneye was a hard act to follow, and so far the efforts have been lousy. This one, however, is definitely better than lousy, though I would still classify it for die hard Bond fans.
The graphics are splendid--crisp, detailed, and refined. The voices aren't bad, particularly Bond and M. The original story treads on familiar Bond turf--something about cloning and another supervillain. There is a nice assortment of weapons: grenades, various pistols, a shotgun, machine guns of various sizes, and rocket launchers. The gadgets are equally varied, mostly extending from his cell phone.
The sound track is suitably exciting, although somewhat redundant at times.
My gripes would be these. It is on the short side, first of all, although there are multiple approaches to each of the 12 missions. Secondly, it would have been more fun to go about the missions without the constant help of M and R. Their commentary gets old, but Bond's comments are always interesting. And it would have been fun to shoot out the security cameras, like in Goldeneye.
Overall, however, for the Bond fan it certainly isn't a bad game. Especially with another year left until the next movie.

For die-hard fans ony

I had espected that the newest installment of James Bond would be able to top the best one yet, The World Is Not Enough. I'm sorry to say that I was wrong. Let's see what this game does right, and what this game does wrong.

Gameplay (2/5)
The single player mode is the absolute worst of all James Bond games. It isn't based on a movie, which in itself is a good idea. Apparently, the developers decided that the less freedom you have and more stiff, straightforward, boring style missions, the better. The levels are WAY too short, lack creativity, and are just plain, mind numblingly dull. The driving parts were equally boring, with only one way to go, one way to do it, and just plain unfun. The multiplayer, unfortunately, is no better. Making bots with characteristics was nice, as was choosing specific weapons the map would have, but the bland, confining, again unimaginitive, dry maps and horrid AI (which will be discussed next) makes the gameplay a big yawn.

AI(1/5)
Even more dissappointing. One by one, moronic security guards would systematically run to his death by my puny KS7 or whatever hell you call it. Snipers get me in their sights, and then decide not to shoot. You could be hiding in a ventilation thingy, hammer the controller for about 5 minutes in order to kill a guard, and the others will be alert for about 10 seconds, then go back to their own buisness, even though one of their buddies mysteriously dropped dead. They don't run for cover. If they even register the fact that you're shooting at them, they will just stand there, marching to their demise. Not fun.

Sound (4/5)
The music, on the other hand, is absolutely terrific. The dialogue and be very corny, though, but other times it can be brilliant.

Graphics (4/5)
Pretty, but the characters run like robots, the explosions and death animations pretty much stink, and for some reason, you don't have hands.

Blech. Let's hope EA improves with Nightfire, or is summarily killed.

I just reviewed Night Fire (far superior) and realized I missed this one. I wish I had missed it at the store too. This is definetly a rental.

The game just doesn't feel right from start to finish. My biggest complaint is weapons fire. It doesn't feel like really firing a weapon. It's more like your shooting noise maker that spits out little tracers.

This game had so much potential, it's to bad.

However, Bonds face is better in this one than in Night Fire (Bronson on Botax). EA should stick to the Generic Bond face like in this one. The role is about to change anyway (Jude Law anyone).

Nightfire better, still good

Agent Under Fire is a new and improved BOnd game that allows you to take control of a variety of weapons and gadgets AND allows you to drive Bond cars, the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger and my personal fave, the BMW Z8 from The World Is Not Enough.
You play, of course, as British Agent 007 James Bond.
YOu're up against a powerful enemy, Adrian Malprave and her henchman, Bloch, and Carla the Jackal.
You're allies include R (substitute for the late Q), M and CIA agent Zoe Nightshade, who gets killed at the end of the second mission, unfortunately. But then you get a new babe, who ALSO only features in two mission Dr Natalya Damescu.
PRos:
Car missions,
pretty good graphics,
perfect difficulty setting for missions,
moves like a real Bond movie

Cons:
THe explosions are terrible, so 2D, and they don't get improved upon in the successor Nightfire.
The makers were so lazy the took everything from Agent NIghtshade, the skirt, the ID card, the COWBOY BOOTS, and makes Dr Damescu, who is exactly the same only the clothers are black and her hair's a different colour.
BOnd's face looks horrible
And, to a lesser extent, directed again at the makers, resurrected Nightshade for Nightfire.
However, it was VERY good, well worth the dough.

Good Game but, way too short!!

I rented this game from blockbuster it was great but it was way too short! My bro and i beat it in 5 days! There are only 12 missions! TOO SHORT!!
However the mutiplayer makes up for the shortness of the game. The mutiplayer mode is very good. It tops GoldenEyes. But like i said its too short.
I recomed u rent it first.

**MY STATS**

Graphsics: 10/10
Gameplay: 10/10
Storyline: 9/10
Length: 5/10
Overall: 8/10 Good but nothing special.

Not a better Golden Eye

I bought this game hoping it would be a better Golden Eye, but I was really disappointed to find out it wasn't. I wish the original developers of Golden Eye, Rare, wrote this version too, because Agent Under Fire lacks all the traits that I loved in the Nintendo game.

For example, my first impression was that the controls were too loose and imprecise. I had a hard time doing the same things I did in Golden Eye, like moving in an arc and peeking around a corner.

Shooting people was also a big disappointment. When people are shot in Agent Under Fire, they appear like bad actors overacting. Aiming itself is problematic because of the controls and also the auto-aiming feature. The sound effects were also poor. I missed the noise of an enemy being riddled by bullets like in Golden Eye.

In general, I get the feeling that Electronic Arts spent most of their time constructing nice graphics (they are good), and little time on playability and realism. This is backwards if you ask me.

If you can try this game out first, I'd definitely recommend it. I was disappointed after playing the first level.

Awesome game
