Rock solid, fun game

This is a pretty solid shoot-em-up from EA, not known for their prowess in this type of game. Basically, if you love Bond, you'll be into this game. It's not your traditional modern FPS. Why? Well, since Bond movies are traditionally PG or PG-13, the game stays in that mode. That's one of the few major complaints really. The movement, the shooting, and the action are all great, but there's not a drop of blood here. Strictly Bond shoot-em-up style. Don't expect Red Faction or Half Life-type carnage. Nevertheless, this game has a very impressive gun selection as well as an extra feature in your other hand: the various Q devices. These make the game fun and challenging. Like the films, the game features Bond's amazing cel phone which has a laser, a decoder, an awesome grappling hook called the "Q-Claw", etc.

At first I thought this game was a bit easy, but you can adjust the difficulty level, and as you make your way through the 12 missions they certainly get harder but not frustrating.

A big, big bonus is a great 2-player mode. Fans of Perfect Dark (made by the same folks that made the incredible Goldeneye) will love it. There are 3 modes: your basic deathmatch, protect the flag, and anti-terrorist training. Deathmatch is simple--hunt the other guy down. In protect the flag one player has to hold on to a flag for a fixed amount of time (say, 2 minutes) in total before the other player does. But the best has to be anti-terrorist training. It's deathmatch with a great twist: there are bombs on the board which must be defused. Get to them before your opponent! 1 point for a player kill, 3 points for a bomb defusal, meaning you're constantly moving and hunting. For all multi-player modes you get to choose what guns appear on the board, and there are plenty to choose from. You also determine what power-ups appear, and you can even play with things like gravity, self-inflicted damage, etc. It's one of the most versatile 2-player modes I've seen yet on PS2.

All in all, this is a great game. Especially if you love Bond. All of the characters are here, and even though the real actors and actresses don't play them, they're close enough. (The Bond in the cinema screens here looks enough like Brosnan.) It's a lot of fun, period. Even if you don't like Bond, the options alone are worthwhile. The 1-player missions have you running around as well as driving Bond's BMW Z8, an Aston Martin, and even has you standing out of a sunroof shooting while someone else drives.

Major complaint, again, the lack of blood. It's unfortunate, but it honestly doesn't take away from solid game play control, action, graphics, and sound. Oh, and on each board, there are certain "Bond moves" that you can pull. (Opening a door with a gadget, blowing something up, etc.) When you do them, the Bond theme plays just like the movies. Again, a lot of fun.

007: Agent Under Fire is the best game for PS2

This game has it all, the graphics, sound game play is amazing. Personally I think one player mode is the best because you ahve to complete this missions that actually give you a challenge. I would pick this game over any other James Bond game that was made. The names Bond, James Bond.

Multiplayer is Awesome

Single player was fun. The multiplayer game was the best I've ever played on the PS2 platform. Zillions of options, weapons, modifiers. The whole multiplayer experience is highly configurable. Every level (12 altogether) supports grappling (q-clawing) and q-jets (think jump pads). The framerate is awesome. It puts games like Red Faction and Unreal Tournament to shame. If you loved goldeneye for it's multiplayer, you should buy this game!!!

This is a must have for every PS2 owner. I bought this on friday (11/16), and it is excellant. This is an excellent 1st person shooter, the best one on the console. Better than Red Faction, this game has it all. Controls that are complex but not difficult. Missions that are multi faceted but not impossible. The Multiplayer is as fun as Goldeneye's, if not better. It even has an excellent story line and, since its not based on a movie, you dont know what will happen next. This is arguably the 2nd best game ever for the PS2, conservatively, its 3rd (Behind GTA3, and GT3). It incorporates the great shootouts of goldeneye with the need for covert ops and stealth just as well as the syphon filter series and the MGS series. It even has awesome levels in which you get behind the wheel of a bmw or aston martin in a chase or as the rail shooter as the female co-star pilots the car while you shoot helicopters and other cars. It is the most fun available on the system multiplayer-wise, with the regular deathmatch or with other senarios (such as one which you must find and disarm bombs). overall, an excellant game. this redeems EA's games dept., after their last 2 disastrous Bond games. Buy this one TODAY!

Okay, after a game has been in development for this long (3 years) you would expect it to be decent, right? Nope, not in this case.

Ill get the good out of the way first. Its biggest strength is that the game is pretty. There are lots of cool explosions and some pretty spiffy bullet effects, all while running at a very smooth framerate. The control isin't too bad ethier for the Playstation2 controller, although not on par with Goldeneye's aim. There is also alot of variety in the gameplay, which is like a breath of fresh air every now and then.

Now for the bad. My biggest problem with the game is the enemy AI. It's horrible. I mean really really awful. Poop on a stick is smarter than these guys. For example, one mission you go under cover, and your not supposed to be spotted. So what do the guards do when they spot you? Look at you stupidly for a couple of seconds, fire a few shots, stand in front of the alarm for 30 seconds, THEN hit the alarm. Its like they are just asking you to make one clean shot in the head, its that bad. Never expect a real fight when you face one on one with them. Heck the only time it becomes a real challenge is when they are in numbers.

Another problem, I beat the game in 6 hours. Yes, 6 freaking hours. As if the game wasn't easy enough, its over in a weekend of playing it. I am very glad I only rented the title, otherwise I would be seriously dissapointed with the game.

And it's not like the multiplayer saves the day ethier. It tries really hard to be like Goldeneye, only its a completely different engine, so it would have been wise to devise a new style of deathmatch, instead of trying to recreate Rare's masterpiece. The result is an easy, less tactical, and overall less fun multiplayer, with weak levels too. The "autoaim" makes the entire thing pointless , just to make sure there will be billions of cheap plays by your friends.

The frequent loading times, annoying repition of the theme (it's not THAT great) and ... story (this wouldn't even work in a Bond movie) makes me wonder if EA can ever make a decent Bond game. It saddens me everyone else is so pysched about this game too. There are such better PS2 games out there, and to consider this one to be the "best" is a joke.

Amazing game

wow, I can't begin to say how much this game has been bashed by reviews and other people, and there is one reason why, because of its constant comparison to goldeneye, well as we all know goldeneye was one of the best games on N64 but this game despite flaws such as it being a bit easy and too many gadgets this game excels just like goldeneye did. It has tons of action in 1st person shooter and takes skill to complete and in the driving levels which are incredibly fun you get action and the cars loook amazingly sweet, plus I would also like to add that despite the 1st player mode being easy to complete you can still go back and get higher medals that give you extra stuff on the level and make it fun to complete plus you also get to utilize the multiplayer aspects which are amazing and the graphics are extrememly top notch and well done, I think the games biggest flaw is its title Bond:agent under fire because of the bond part it is held up to a standard that it should have quality and graphics that surpass goldeneye or at least rival it and once you get past the fact that its not goldeneye you can really enjoy the game which has amazing cut scenes in addition to great action and multiplayer. I hope I have said my piece and that people will understand how great this game really is.

Who'd have thought 3 numbers could spell "action"

After the great success of GoldenEye, the failure of Tomorrow Never Dies, and the averageness of The World Is Not Enough, one could only hope that Agent Under Fire could match the greatness GoldenEye had achieved. It almost did. Having three different kinds of levels, (first person shooter, rail shooter, and driving) the action comes off as a shaken, not stirred mix. The level changes are somewhat sporadic and at times are too concentrated of a certain type. Despite this though the game play is still wonderful. Graphics, play control, sound, everything is great. But, this game is much better on the GameCube as opposed to the PS2 or X-Box. So if all you own is a PS2, this game is definitely worth buying, but if you have the option, get the Cube one.

NOT AN ESSENTIAL PURCHASE BY ANY MEANS!

Everyone knows how great Goldeneye was for the N64. Most people will admit that the formula was taken to its last-gen limit with Perfect Dark. What is it that game developers can not figure out? Many gamers, myself included, want an engaging 1st-Person Shooter that will offer a fully interactive and programmable multi-player. The Bond franchise might as well be canned after this escapade. As a previous reviewer stated, the last four have been lacking in gameplay and inspiration. If the Perfect Dark: Zero game doesn't pick up the slack, then I'm buying an XBOX just to play HALO.

That said, this game does make the PS2 leap successfully in terms of graphics. The women are gorgeous, the scenery is believable and the facial expressions of all those involved are honestly the best I've ever seen in a game. The driving levels are also quite a bit of fun. This adventure does have its merits, but is too short, too easy, too uninteresting past five levels.

I advise you pick it up used for less than $30. That's about what it's worth. I would love to pay $100 for a decent update of Goldeneye that would tap the power of the PS2. Ho-hum...

Bond ... James Bond

At my age, I have seen my share of Bond movies and love them all. I've also played my share of video games. Goldeneye was definitely one of my all time favorite games for the N64, and I still play it once in a while with my friends. Agent Under Fire's sweet graphics and smooth gameplay blow it out of the water in my opinion. Each level is huge and extremely realistic. I am still finding different ways to get through the levels by using all the gadgets that you are provided with. Agent Under Fire is different than Goldeneye. Now you can't always get through a level by just runnin' and gunnin'. In some levels you have to sneak around to stay alive. But don't get me wrong... there's still plenty of runnin' and gunnin'. You also get to use different vehicles. You get to drive a sweet new BMW and another cool old car but I forget what it is called. In one level you get to use a tank (it's way better than in Goldeneye). And in some levels you have to shoot while being driven. In every level I'll think I've passed the tough part when all of a sudden I'll turn a corner, or get a message from Q, or receive a new objective that will be even harder. I've got in trouble many times by my father for saying "(fill in random obscenity)" after turning the next corner, viewing one of the many (realistic) movies of what's to come, or listening to my objectives. It seems impossibly hard when you first see it.
Although they are made up just for the game, all the characters seem like they are straight from a Bond movie. They even spoke in the levels. And it wasn't old Japanese movie talking... It really looked like the characters were talking. Each character looked like a real person. Bond doesn't sport his usual tux and tie, but he still looks sweet. He even plays the ladies a couple times in the game (told you it was just like a movie). What a smooth talking guy. And speaking of the Bond ladies, they look hott in this game. I especially like the twins. The villains move and react like they would in a film. The way they run, shoot, and die all seem so real. Even the facial expressions are amazing.
I don't understand how people can say this was a terrible game and that it was easy to beat. [...] this is an exciting and challenging game to have fun with. There are so many different skill levels, different mission types, and different ways to get through the levels that you can never really beat it.
The only thing that I thought was wrong with this game was the multiplayer. EA should have taken notes from Goldeneye on that. The levels are small (but not too small to still be fun). If that one thing was changed, I would say the game was perfect.
All in all, I love this game... Notice I say love, not loveD. I still play it all the time, redoing levels, trying to get better scores or special cheats. It's still a challenge for me, and I don't think it will ever get old. If you are looking for a sweet new game to get that looks awesome, plays great, and never runs out of excitement, I have one word for you ... BUY THIS GAME!!!

Flush your money down the toilet...

Flat out, this game sucks. It is absolutely no fun. I have owned it since Christmas and it would be a miracle if I've played it more than 15 minutes total. My friends just threw it in 10 minutes ago, and I swear that one of them fell out of their chair and is sleeping on the floor. I'm suprised I've held onto this long. If you've ever played Perfect Dark or Goldeneye, you will be extremely dissapointed. The 2 player mode is just so boring and slow, not to mention it is no fun at all. The best thing about Perfect Dark was the mayhem--this game is lacking it in every way possible. If you could play with bots (as in PD) it might be a different story. If you want one-player action, get Metal Gear Solid 2, and for 2-player, get Twisted Metal Black. I can think of 20 games out right now that I would take over this one. I kept PD in my 64 for at least 2 years straight, and it never got old. This game was stale the second I had a mental lapse and actually took it out of the wrapper.
