TOTAL REALISM

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 3

This game is extremely realistic. The control is unbelievable. However, the guys are right. It is hard to hit the ball...at all. Now, don't get me wrong. This game is VERY realistic. The computers pitcher can throw curves and sinkers and sliders. It is hard to judge but it just takes some getting used to. I bought the game and I love it. My sister wanted me to buy a baseball game so I went to my local Wal-Mart. I asked which game they sell more of. The lady said Triple Play. But I like to be different so I got All Star 2003 and immediately fell in love with it. I'd say if you want "arcade" gameplay, go with Triple Play. If you want TOTAL realism, go with All Star Baseball.

A frustrating game

Overall All Star Baseball 2003 is a very frustrating game. I just finished (actually I got so mad, I turned the system off) my 10th game. I am 1-9. Some of the major flaws.

Hitting is very hard because there is only 1 camera angle, which happens to be level with the ball so you don't really know when to swing. The hitting is very hard. You have a little triangle where if the ball is in that triangle, you will usually hit it. However, the only way to get the ball out of the infield is with a power hit. You get some homers, but beware, anything into the gaps, although on most games it would be a double, is a running, one-handed, over-the-shoulder catch that looks very similar to Michael Jordan's dunks. You rarely get doubles or triples. You either strike out, single, or hit a homer.

Also, all games are 9 innings, so if you are wanting to play just a quick game, it't not possible. It seems like no matter what you do, the computer always does something to beat you. I have found many ways to lose whether it is a 3 run homer while up 1 in the 9th to running past balls in the outfield and not being able to get to them in time, to everything in between. The game scores are usually about 7-6 or so, sometimes more.

However, what has happened to me a lot is I will fight back to tie it and then the shortstop/second basemen (or somebody else who averages about 3 homers a season)will hit a curveball that is high and tight for a 3-run shot. This gets very annoying. Defense is very easy for the computer. The fielders move fast and make very, very strange and unrealistic catches. It is much harder for the user. You are much slower than the computer so they routinely get doubles and triples. Also, you have to push the button of the base you want to throw to before you get the ball, otherwise they just stand there for a second and think about it.

Starters only last about 4-5 innings before they lose their control. The computer lasts 6-7. Relievers go about 1 inning, and normal starters who are acting as relievers go about 2. The scoring for the computer comes in bursts every couple of innings. In between, you get pretty confident and strike out a lot of guys. However, the computer makes some very unrealistic hits. It is not physically possible for a shortstop such as Cesar Iztirus to hit a homer to the opposite field on a curveball that is high and tight.

Positives. The Graphics are awesome. Expansion mode is great. The rosters are up to date. Would I recommend this game? Having played High Heat Baseball, it is much harder, but much more realistic than High Heat. It is probably the best baseball game on the market, but that's not saying much. Hope this helps a little bit.

Greatest Baseball Game Ever on any platform

So far this is the most fun, most attractive game ever made. I purchased this game not too long ago and I have been playing it non stop, right now im at the all-star break and i have collected many baseball cards which is a side feature in the game. I also love the trivia, itsgreat for when you and your friends have disputes over who knows the most about baseball. This game flat out rocks, and its better for PS2 over the Gamecube because you only need one memory card to save it on the PS2, while Gamecube u need a special extra memory card made by a third party publisher, which usually break down after a week of use, or you need 2 cards ... SO GO GET IT FOR THE PS2 RIGHT NOW IF YOU NEEDA GREAT BASEBALL GAME!

Allstar Baseball 2003 was terrible. ASB2001 was the best of all. It was too hard to hit the ball even on rookie mode. The instruction manual told me nothing. It was so overrated. Too little gameplay and the person who made this game should be fired and thrown out on the street.

Oh, My, Goodness. Get it on Gamecube

I think that All-Star Baseball 2003 for PS2 is an absolute wonderful game. There is only one thing wrong though. WHY ISN'T YOUR TEAM SMART?! I love this game a whole lot better than Final Fantasy X but my team just ... me off! I have all the best players, of those including A-Rod, Miguel Tejada (Best Player In The Game!), and Luis Gonzalez, but they just don't know how to hit or field. And how come the CPU can make perfect diving catches and decide if they want to jump, scale, slide, or dive, huh? When you play you'll try and scale the wall, but he'll dive and smash his head in to it instead! Also when your batting, the pitches are way to fast where on Gamecube you can actually hit a changeup. But don't take my word for it. Maybe I just .... can't do anything right! Still, I love this game a whole lot and right below this sentance will be a whole list of why I love it so much.

* Great 3D graphics and animation captures.
* An expansion mode that lets you create you own team and choose there city, team name (comes with logo), and stadium. (None of which are real)
* Franchise Mode
* Commentary with the great Thom Brennaman, Steve Lyons, and Bob Brenly.
* Exhibition, Season, Series, Home Run Derby, and All-Star Game Manger.
* Playor Editor
* Life-like Team Manegment system
* Special features like the all new Batting Practice and Baseball Trivia game.
* And Donruss player cards you can collect.

So there are my reasons why and why not to get the game. So if you want to get the game on PS2, fine. I just like it better on Gamecube.

O my god!!!!!!!!!!!

This is one of the best games I've ever got! It is nothing like the computer version.

Terrible Baseball Game

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 1 / 4

I find it hard to believe that anybody could rate this game ahead of High Heat Baseball 2003. First, to be objective, All Star Baseball DOES have superior graphics to High Heat, but only by a very slight margin. Those superior graphics are easily negated by the numerous graphical glitches that All Star Baseball has (player images flitting around the screen during certain button sequences). And this is not to mention the gameplay, where All Star Baseball just stinks.

Pitch control, speed, and selection in ASB is hideous. Pitch speed is almost uniformly similar. The pitches come in so fast that you would need an atomic clock to calculate the difference between a Randy Johnson fastball and a Steve Sparks knuckleball. The game tries to compensate with this hideous cursor appearing right as the ball is released. Awful. High Heat has a nice blend of pitch curvature, pitch speed, and a realistic modeling of locations, making the hitter/pitcher confrontation truly excellent.

Fielding and baserunning in both games are similar enough to be not a factor, but the hitter/pitcher interface is SO FAR SUPERIOR in High Heat, as to be laughable.

This was one of the worst baseball games i have ever played. Granted i was very impressed with the features and the graphics, but the gameplay is just awful. When is Acclaim and 3DO going to learn from one another. If you put ASB03' graphics and features with High Heat's game play you would have the greatest baseball game ever!

A VARY BAD GAME

The controlling on this game is odd. You can not hit the ball out of the infield unless you are vary vary lucky. You also can not field the ball vary well there is a star telling you ware to go but when you go into it the ball drops. So over all the game is bad and do not buy it.

THE MOST BORING BASEBALL GAME EVER
