What can I say? It's one of the best RPG'S I've ever played. Yea, it's got the usual that most RPG gamers are looking for...good storyline, graphics, cool characters, so on and so on. IMO there are only two drawbacks. Number 1: Every now and then, something is thrown at you, that will make you go "HUH! " unless you have really good memory...(or it you play the game twice...then you start going "OH! " ^_^;; Number 2: Everything gets all fuzzy when there's a close up. The neat thing about xenogears is the deathblows. You know, combos and stuff, and then you can combine the deathblows to make what square calls combos, and what I'd like to call SUPERcombos. Ugh, I could go on and on about all the good stuff...I'll stop here. Hope this was helpful! Xenogears is a really really good! BUY IT NOW! Have fun ^_-

When I sat down to play Xenogears, I assumed (based on the fact that I am a spoiled PC gamer) that it would be a linear game with a cardboard story but lots of eye candy.

Boy, was I wrong!

Xenogears is proof positive that Square is the master of the console RPG genre. Equipped with a masterfully woven story and a wonderful graphics engine, Xenogears continues in the tradition of Parasite Eve and Chrono Trigger, perhaps even surpassing them. (Perhaps? It did!) Suffice it to say, Xenogears made me go out and buy Bleem! so I wouldn't have to keep renting the PS deck from my local video store =)

Bravo, Square Soft!

This game is one of the best storytelling RPG's I have ever played. The game-play and controls are simple and the story is incredibly intriguing, the game play flies by with ease. Bottom line, if you got the money buy the game.

GREAT!

I play RPGs all the time and I've never seen a plot as complex and emersive as this! It is made by squaresoft (the same people who make the Final Fantasy series) and is a true work of art. The graphics are 3d, while the characters are 2d sprites, but it doesn't decrease the value of the game. Again I state that the plot is the best I have ever seen. Some people are tuned off when the game starts conveying religiously sensitive material, but the more careful observer will note that it's just a game, and the plot later reveals that these themes are perfect for the story.

Flawed but marvelous

Xenogears is quite possibly Square's best game. A rich, complex story, well-developed characters, and a massive world create long-term gameplay and replay interest. The story, importantly, does not talk down to the player; it is fully as deep and complicated, and presented as such, as a good novel.

The characters are all well developed, even the fairly minor ones receiving some character development. Bart, Billy, and Citan of the secondary characters are particularly well-developed, and the plot twists involving those characters are very well done.

The game does a good job of letting you know where the story is headed, without locking you into it; there are usually plenty of opportunities to go off and engage in random battles to learn deathblows or get money.

The game's single major flaw is that it needed to be a three or even four disc game - Disc 2 feels rather hurried and rushed, and I would have preferred to have played through the events narrated, rather than have them told to me. This would have made the sudden (and largely inexplicable) changes in Fei and Elly's characters and relationship much more reasonable.

Combat is intuitive and fairly easy to understand, though I strongly recommend getting a move guide off the net to find out the combinations. Gear combat isn't all that interesting, as other reviewers have noticed, but I find most RPG combat systems not that great.

Character design is excellent, although the game does leave a bit to be desired graphically. This is especially notable in the jumping sections early in the game, where it can be very hard to see where you are supposed to land.

The anime sections are very well done and add a great deal to the game in both atmosphere and plot development. Voice acting is acceptable, not great; so far, no PS game has managed great voice acting, however.

If you haven't played this game, what are you waiting for?

This game is about as good as they come. I've always been a big fan of Square's games, but this one blew me away. I picked it up on an impulse, and wow, this is simply amazing. Gameplay is superb, and the story is excellent. This one is at least an equal to anything in Square's Final Fantasy line, and even superior to some of them. Plus, there's a ton of secrets to discover, and this game will most assuredly keep you fully entertained for a good time to come.

Great game by Square

This game has the best plot since Final Fantsy 4j (2 in America). The battle system is interesting especially since there are 2 of them. Definetly worth the purchase if you like RPGs

You don't have an overabundance of battles, however, untill you learn special moves for charicters, the battles CAN be difficult. Also, gear battles are ok, but the only way you can power up your gears is through purchasin items, and the limited amount of fuel to run them is a major annoyance.

Even with all the bad aspects, the plot alone (a rather dark one I warn you) is definetly worh the purchase

Wow.

One thing I'll say for Xenogears--it was pretty amazing. Theplot reads like a science fiction novel, featuring incredibly deepcharacters (the main character, Fei Fong Wong, undergoes development that must be seen to be believed), an outstanding (yet incredibly complex and often difficult to understand) plot, and terrific gameplay. Among the unique features of the gameplay are a combo-based battle system, fully rotatable three dimensional realtime environments, and, of course, battling it out in giant robots capable of extremely powerful (and very cool looking) attacks; actually, the battles are full of style and coolness. As I rant, people wonder why I dropped the fifth star. Well, that star has been sacrificed because of the dismal failure that is the second disc of the game. I'm not sure what happened, but the designers completely changed the feel and approach of the game. For the life of me, I can't figure out why--the change is very much for the worse. Fortunately, the awesome first disc is far far longer than the second disc. This is a long long game and a wild ride, but stick with it--the ending is worth it. END
