I dont know why people dont like this game. But to me its the best rpg EVER made! I dont want to go into detail and bore you but the main points are the music is AMAZING and the story is EXTREAMLY deep and involving. This didnt help you in any way but i was bored and wanted to say something.

THis was the first role playing game I really played all the way through. It was and is my favorite game of all time. Sure the Final Fantasy series has better graphics, but this remains my favorite because it introduced me to a whole new realm. This is such a wonderful game! The plot and storyline flow together smoothly with a very original musical score. The battle system is much better than any other I have seen with exception to Legend of Legaia perhaps. Overall this is a truly remarkable game. I reccomend it to anyone who likes role playing games.

Appreciate this game on its strengths (incredible plot, music, town design, graphics, characters) and understand that the strategy in fighting is almost entirely based around equipping your characters correctly before the battle. Though I found the mech battles rather tedious, and I am completely baffled why since chrono trigger all these kind of rpgs only allow 3 characters in a party (ff4, ff5, ff6 and to a lesser extent l:sstc for example have battles that are much more fun than any of the more current rpgs, simply because of the more characters to control).... none of these complaints take away from the fact that this is best "story-telling" game on the playstation (and I dont simply mean in a linear way, the towns are tremendously "alive" and interactive). If they allowed more characters in your party, made the special combos do things besides just varying amounts of damage, and made the dungeon design on disc 2 up to par, there is no doubt this would be the greatest rpg ever made. As it is though, it is still an absoultely necessary purchase for any japanese rpg fan.

If you do not own this game already, then do yourself a favor and buy it now. This is Square at their finest. Great music, decent graphics, and one of the most amazing and interesting stories ever. The game features anime style cut scenes, music by the say composer of Chrono Trigger, and giant robots. Everybody loves giant robots, right? I thought so.

Xenogears is a stellar game with an interesting, involving story. Make no mistake, Xenogears is a massive game. It is so huge and complex that it could easily have Final Fantasy 7 and 8 for breakfast and ask for seconds. Here is where most people falter. Struggling with a behemoth of a game and not knowing what the hell is going on, they give Xenogears a bad rating. Those that can hack it know better. Patience is a virtue, and it is needed in this game. Xenogears contains all the right elements for an awesome anime movie. It's confusing but fast paced and exciting. It involves solving the hero's mysterious past and his connection with a religious figure. The religious element is a nice touch, but it's not the entire story. There's so much more involved. Mixed in with the hero's story is a much larger story about war, military conspiracies, giant machines, genetic experiments, sacrifices, a mysterious evil, and the origin of everything. Then there are surprises, lots and lots of surprises. This game will make you go "Whoa!" and "Huh?" a lot of times. But for the patient gamer, everything will be revealed but only at the very end. This makes this game more rewarding than Final Fantasy 7's relatively simple tale of destroying the bad guy. The battles are fast and furious. There's very little need for beefing up the characters until they're ready for the next section like in Final Fantasy. This is because the characters can pretty much hold their own and most battles take place in the machines, which can only be upgraded with parts. Thus, more strategy is involved than simply "beefing up." This makes this game very hard. The magic system is kinda useless, but this is balanced by the game's furious kung-fu style combat. No more waiting for long spell and guardian force sequences to do my dirty work. I wanna kick butt! Fortunately, this game let's me do that. If there's any downside to this game, it's the large amount of narration in the second disk. Other than that, this game's a gem. As for the lousy graphics, lousy graphics don't matter if the game is great. The hand drawn characters look pretty much like the characters in Guardian Heroes, another great game. Guardian Heroes and Xenogears are a testament that bad graphics are nothing if the game is so appealing.

almost as good if not better than FF8

Im only half way through it but so far its great! When i played it i wasnt expecting much i had just finished FF8 and i needed despratly a game to play since i have no lif. anyway before i new it i was wraped up in a storyline and had played for 11 hours straight its a wonderful game you start out as fei and meet pirates and girls its got everything. you are basically stuck in an ever progressing war between to countries. its a hard plot to figure out and there are surprises every where the characters are quite blocky and instead of cinimatics its got anime so it was a deffinate change from what im used to all in all so far this game ROCKS !-

This game is the best. i havent beet it yet.it has many movie sceences so you have to be pacint.other than that this game is the best.

I love this game. I can't stop playing it. The only problem is I can't beat the first disk. So, incredably fun and pretty hard. It is one of the best games in my collection.

XENOGEARS is an awesome RPG If you liked final fantasy VII You'll Love Xenogears. You Start out with a flashback and realize that you have amnesia and then get in a huge robot (a gear) and go out of control and destroy the village that took you in.

At first its a little slow but once you get about 4 or 5 hours into the game your so confused you cant hardly think straight.

Finally when you have everything figured out three new story lines come into the game. All in all there are about 7 or 8 stories going on all at the same time, that dont have a thing to do with each other. Then in the last 5 hours of the game everything comes together.

This is truly one of the best rpg's around. Througout the game you battle with a totally unique setup, unlike in any other psx rpg's battles. There are many oppertunities in this game to battle multi player against someone else, in an arena for the gears. This game is one of a kind and the story is unimaginable.
