Best RPG I ever played.

First off, the graphics. This game was made around the same time as Final Fantasy 7, which had what was considered some of the best graphics for it's generation. Comparing the graphics of this game to the current pickings is just robbing yourself. No game from even a year ago can compare, graphics-wise, to the games coming out today. Considering Xenogears is almost a decade old, and considering that, it has great graphics. Though personally, I've always had a softspot for 2D.
Gameplay; I loved the battle system, I think it was one of the best parts of the game. sure, it culd have used a little more, but it is great the way it is. I picked up the controls very fast, and never had a problem with them. It is sad though that most of the second disk is seriously lacking a major part of gameplay, that little part where you actually get to play.
Story; I loved it, period. Full of twists and great characters. It also had the perfect amount of humor and otherwise happy moments. Too bad it degraded into almost being pure story during the second disk.
Music; Great. It almost alway seemed to fit the mood that was being portrayed.
Time; The third time I played it, I beat it in about 70 hours, though I took the time to finish the few sidequests and max out all of the characters levels and equipment.

Final thoughts: This is a must have for any mech fan In my opinion, The designs are great. I do wish Square would remake it though. Nothing drastic, just fill in the second disk with more gameplay, update the graphics just a little (leave the 2D alone! just smooth it out and update the 3D portions!) And maybe improve on the battle system a little, other than that, it's my perfect game.

I loved this game! i loved the idea of gears and everything else. A must buy!! although they do seem to talk a lot and it may be boring to some people.. if you just have some patience you'll get right into it and wanna actually hear more! it's a shorter rpg but that doesnt mean it's worse than the rest! like i said.. it may be lacking in length but the gameplay, graphics, storyline, and the music (which i loved to death! could listen to them all day!!) will surely make up for it. The characters are once again amazing! at certain points the game can turn confusing but everything turns up good. This is a game that you don't want to miss out on!!

i played the game from a long time. this game has one if not the best storyline, music, charecters, battlesystem, graphics. i recommend playing it more than once to be able to understand the story. if you didnt play it yet then you missed a lot.

I loved this game when I first purchased it oh so long ago. I never realized how amazing this game was until a few months later when I got this urge to play it once again...except I had sold it for some unknown reason. I purchased it used for more than I had brand-new and played through it at least two more times and each time it got better and better and better. You can't really pinpoint any part of this game and attribute its greatness to that single piece of the game. It is the game as a whole that makes for a wonderfully fascinating adventure that leaves behind the sweetest of memories. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a solid week of classic gaming to go to ebay or wherever you buy your used games from and pick up a copy of this epic rpg...you won't be disappointed I guarantee.

This game is the best and most engaging game ever created. (trust ive played a LOT of RPGs) Give it some time and you will be rewarded with a tale with its origins in caballa, philosphy, religion, semiotics, mythology, and biblical refrences; intellegenylly done, the charaters and places are not haphazardly named. This is a work of art. Some funny translations but just go with it. A game with humble beginnings, where the plot goes u cant imagine STICK WITH IT. For real RPGers it wont be too challenging, gameplay-wise.

xenogears is a great game xenogears is a little bit differnt then other rpg's in stead of just attacking if u pick attack if u have a robot with u u can pick to use powerful move x strong move square and weak move triangle this game is about a person named fei who one day is in his village lahan and it get;s attacked after disobeying the town rules he must move out of the town after that he meets other people and goes on a misson to save the world from doom

I started playing this game because a friend of mine is obsessed with it. I was hoping that it would be good, and i was not let down. The character development is actually excellent, and if you don't think so then you obviously aren't paying very much attention wo what the characters are saying and doing. The only characters that are not developed very well are Chu-Chu and Rico, but i much doubt that you will ever find yourself using these characters past the points when you have to. The religious imagry is not something that can only be understood if you are Christian. The game explains much of it quite well. It just doesn't do it all at once and leaves you guessing for a few hours of gameplay. But then again, who on earth would want to keep playing a game after someone has already told you EVERYTHING that is going to happen? Don't you want to be left guessing on points until the end, or would you rather have the whole thing explained in 5 minutes? All in all, a good game. not reccomended for kids.

This game is great! Great battle system, amazing story, and great anime cut scenes. If you like RPGs dont even think about it, just get this game.

What more can I say about this awesome game, but if you have a playstation 1 or 2 go out and try to find this game or order it online as fast as you can to experience one of the best games ever made by Squaresoft.

The game was ahead of its time when it was first released in the us. I'm shocked that the game didnt make greatest hits at all. I thought the game would of make all the required sales to make the list. That would of been great and i would save you about 30 dollers off the price now adays. With a great story and good dialog its a game worth buying at any time for any price.
