The graphics are horrible...4 words to rate it.THEY ARE BITS FOR PETE SAKE!!!!!!!!!!I just think they SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!But the story is good ok...I guess.

This game wold be perfect if not for the horrorible, terrible, cursed CD 2 squaresoft what hapenned? run out of money? the programers died or misteriouselly desapeared? this is the felling you get wen you play the game .

THE GOOD
This game has a REALLY good storyline, and we get a main character that's unique in the sense that he doesn't want to fight, but he knows that he must. The storyline has often been touted as the best plot an RPG ever had, and while that can be debated (I always thought Chrono Trigger had the best storyline...), it's still awesome. A futuristic tale of social class warfare with various different symbolisms... very complex. I was a bit disturbed at the game's athiest point of view, but oh well. I'll let that slide. The battle system is also quite good, featuring several different combos your characters and gears can perform. The music is top notch, and since it's the same composer of Chrono Trigger (Yasunori Mitsuda), you can expect a gold musical score here. The multiplayer feature is quite good, too, and I shun all those people who have beaten me by using Xenogears (the ultim---er, CHEATING gear *Cough Cough* Someone I know.... *Cough Cough*).

THE BAD
The unfortunate downside of this game happens to be in the presentation. This game is virtually 70% dialogue and story and 30% gameplay. I'm not kidding. I came here to play a GAME, not WATCH it! I guess the RPG fans just want to sit there in awe, but when a battle is going on, I EXPECT TO PARTICIPATE IN IT. I was vastly disappointed when it cut to one of the characters in a chair talking about the battle with the pendant in the background swaying back and forth. This happened a lot on the second disc and it's a shame. I also felt the love story, albeit far from bad, didn't quite get the boost that it needed; it just seemed to "happen." Oh well.

OVERALL
Die hard RPG fans no doubt love this game and while it's far from terrible, I do think it's overrated. A great story with interesting characters, but not nearly enough gameplay involvement. If I wanted to watch something, I'll watch a DVD. Nevertheless, I do recommend this game to any RPG fan, BUT ONLY TO THOSE WITH A LOT OF PATIENCE. I might get negatives for this, but that's just because the people that give negative votes are usually very shallow.

I love this game! Xenogears is one of the best RPG's out there! It is 100 times better than a game called "Eternal Eyes" which is basically the worst game I have ever played. Xenogears is a 3-D and 2-D game! The gear battles rock! It has a great story line! Fei is cool, but my favorite character is Billy! The game has fast game-play, and is great! If you ever wanted to buy 'Eternal Eyes', forget, cause this game is much better!

THERE IS NO CHANGING MY MIND AND NO DOUBT WHAT SO EVER THIS IS THE GREATEST GAME EVER MADE. THE STORYLINE IS INCREDIBLE. HOWEVER DUE TO THE FACT ITS ON PLAYSTATION 1 DONT EXPECT THE GRAPHICS TO BE GREAT. BUT THE STORYLINE ALONE MAKES UP FOR EVERY FLAW OF THIS GAME. I HAVE TO ADMIT THOUGH IT STARTS OFF KINDA OF SLOW BUT WHEN IT STARTS TO PICK UP ITS AMAZING. I RECOMMEND THIS GAME TO EVERYONE WHO LIKES THE FINAL FANTASY SERIES OR ANY TYPE OF RPG GAMES.

You may all recognize my name from my Final Fantasy 7 review. Well then I'll just get into it.
Xenogears has the best story line and fighting system in a game I have ever played. This game is jam packed with twists eerie coincidences and just down right mesmerating game play. You play the main charecter of Fei an orphan that was taken into the town of Lahan and grew up there. He later meets an unfortunate event which plunges him into one of the most complex and crazy stories the gaming world has ever known there isn't really much I can say without goiving away the game so just playt it!

dear me...i seem to have just been floored..this game is amazing..simply pure amazingness the story amazing..the graphics are eh but who cares..this game is god..let me be honest people, Xenogears is better than final fantasy..well its on equal level with final fantasy 7 and 6 so please go do yourself a favour and buy this game.

I have played most of Square's games, and I definately thought this game was disappointing, despite the fact that my friends recommended it highly. I thought it was SO boring, and the characters were, for a traditional type RPG, really lacking in any discernable personality. The graphics are REALLY dated, and the music was subpar even for Mitsuda Yasunori. If you want something without depth of character, go for Legend of Mana. At least a: it never pretends to have deep characters, b: the music is good and c: it's REALLY pretty and fun!

One of the Hardest RPG's

Well, these game is very challenging you got to think on your head to get some where. IT is very hard, You basically have to think stradegy when fighting the hardest enemies which are in disc 2. Furthermore, story line is good, but the drawback is the graphics. The cinemas are great cant complaint. By the way for those who will buy these game If you are curious buy Lunar silver star story complete you can use the making of the game disc to view every cinema on each disc. Good luck..... ITs a hard game.

Firstly, I should say that under no circumstances could I give this game a 5. The RPG that deserves that rating has not been created (only FFVII would be even close). Anyway, this game does not deserve it. With graphics that look like FFVII rejects and a repetitive combat this game wouldn't even get a 3 on my scale. The reason for my rating is simple: Xenogears has the best story of any RPG ever created. I will not explain why. If you are willing to spend 60+ dollars on a PSX game, like I did, then you'll see for yourself. If not, then nothing I write will convince you. If you think that graphics, sound or gameplay is the most important element in an RPG, then you will hate Xenogears, since it lacks these features. As I said before, the graphics are terrible (Super Mario RPG has better graphics, in my opinion). The game sounds a lot like FFVII (to my untrained ear, some of the music is identical). The anime clips that feature voices are so far and in-between that I wish there was no voiceacting at all. Combat is similarly bad, requiring you to fight countless battles just to level up or learn a new deathblow (Chrono Cross and the new Xenosaga both have better implementaions of the same idea).

Don't think that I consider my money wasted...Xenogears has an awsome story. Most science-fiction isn't as good. It isn't 100% flawless (naive discussions of class difference, justification of war annoy me to no end, not to mention the fact that the vital "show-don't-tell" rule of story-telling is broken on the second disk), but it beats all competition (even Final Fantasy).

Xenogears is not a perfect game, in fact it is horribly flawed. Even so, it remains one of the best RPGs ever made...
