I rented this game at B-Buster, and as soon as I started the game, I realized that it was not gonna come close to previously created games, such as Onimusha or Devil may Cry. A good game is one that is not pain (...)to play. I would say, this game is more like a movie than a game. You get to control the character 20 % of the time at most. What's fun in that? In addition to this, you have to read and listen to overly annoying phone calls from some dude, who keeps rejecting the pictures of Metal Gear, that you take at the end of level one. I wanted to shoot (him) so bad, he was so annoying.....
It is also hard, you get killed a lot. Very big disappointment.
Good that I rented it. I was going to buy...
This is the worst game for the PS2!!!!

No one would of bought this garbage if Kojima wasn't involved, because this "game" is more like a movie. You only get to play as Snake for part of the game, then you play as some dorky guy. I could live with being the dorky guy, but then every step you make, there is a codec conversation that ruins the gameplay. For example, you don't have to find your way around the building, a codec conversation tells you where to go. Also, there is no first-person view. Stick with games like GTA 3, Max Payne, Medal of Honor, or even MGS 1. At least you get to PLAY.
Only one word to describe it: Movie

I, for one, can tell you that I've played the entire game and its much, much better then the first one. If you played the first MGS on hard and thought that was easy, playing MSG2 on hard is extremlly tough. The enemy AI is excellent, they act like real soldies when they are looking for you! Don't plan on hiding under boxes, you will get caught!
The Storyline is excellent, keeping you wanting more all the way till the end. Bosses are great, and the replay value is a must. Movie scences are clear and crisp, and the original voice casts are back, and more.
Don't get caught sneezing sneaking around enemies, and try finding all the posters.
This game is what makes the PS2 worth buying! Can't wait for MGS3!
The king of games!

Metal gear solid 2 has lived up to the hype that it has been recieving for the last two years. The game is stunnig in game play, voice acting, and cut scenes. The new first person shooter mode allows gamers to take out enemies in a new way. You can even create a hold up and steal the name tags from the enemies to unlock special features at the end of the game. If you are a soft hearted gamer you can go through the whole game without killing a single person (even bosses!). The small problem is the dialoge can get boring and cut scenes can be to long. Yet, it is worth it for the great story that defines the game.

Your MGS 2:Sons of Liberty takes video gaming to a whole new level. Those of us who remember Atari 2600, Intellivision and the original Nintendo system can relate to this. How much has our world changed? Instead of guiding my thirteen pixel tank to war, I'm watching a movie with a pretty decent storyline (although seemingly ubsurd at times), good sound, good visuals and decent acting that's inside of a video game!
Today, the game makers want to deliver the most entertainment for the buck but it's very rare to purchase a flawless $50 game. I'm still not used to the idea of 'renting' video games so I read as much previews and reviews by editors and fans alike to determine whether I should waste my hard earned money on some game. Not that MGS 2 is without it's problems but it's pretty darn close to being perfect.
The only two complaints:
1 - The movie cutscenes are too darn long. No one cares about the background of every single character that appears in the game. You should have focused on the missions and the gameplay. You could have made those movies interactive by letting us doing the shooting or the dodging. So the long and dreaded cutscenes seemed to just keep going and going and going...
2 - The game itself was too short. The cutscenes and codec conversations must have take up at least half of the time to complete the game the first time around (appx. 15 hours). Since the gameplay is fun and heart pounding at times, it was sort of a letdown once it was all over.
Some suggestions for MGS 3:
1 - Please make the game in first person persepctive. It was sort of annoying while challenging to run around with all sorts of camera angles and then having to switch to the first person view to make almost every important shot.
2 - Please cut down the amount of cheese as well as the twists and turns that you put into the game. While slightly humorous and entertaining at times, the script is not all that good (almost like a very good made for TV movie) and no gamer really cares that much about the cutscenes anyway.
3 - Get rid of that stupid radar PERMANENTLY (although I know that we can turn it off manually). I think that it would be more realistic to sneak around in stealth mode without knowing which way the guards are facing and finding the doors without the reliable radar.
4 - Let us control a tank or a helicopter or something to blow things up. No game is as satisfying unless we experience a brief moment of invincibility as we have been in Half-Life or Goldeneye.
5 - We need more weapons. I would like to sneak up behind an unsuspected guard and slit his throat with a combat knife. Or when things get hectic, I want a sawed-off shotgun for close encounters. Or, how about a flamethrower when I trip the alarm and 400 guards are swarming me? Just a suggestion...
But all in all, thank you very much for an overall excellent game. I would recommend it to almost everyone who's over 17, ofcourse.
amazing but sort of dissapionting

Let me begin by saying that I've been looking forward to this game for a LONG time, but I wait until games go down in price ... Anyway, I have to say that my wait is over and this game is magnificent. Filled with rich detail and such a twisted storyline that you can't put it down. You need to find out what happens next, as if this is the PS2 version of a soap opera.
The controls are eary to use, and the character and environment detail is top nothc. The voice acting is simply fantastic, which is the real strength of this game. The enemies are also a bit smarter, which adds to the realism. The cut scenes are great, but that's where i have my only gripe. You can't play through this game more than once without getting bored with all the excessive dialog (okay already, we know what happens. Let me shoot someone before I go insane!). And personally, I think Snake should have had a larger role as a playable character. It is also a shame that this game is so short. The original Metal Gear Solid on PSX was at least twice the length. I finished this game in about 2 days. Such a shame.
Overall though, this game is quite a triumph. I can't wait to see if there will be another installment to keep the story going.
I played it, so listen

The graphics ,the new abilities, the storyline where you wish you could tell the world that Sergei Gurlokovich(im not sure if this is correct}was mentitioned in Metal Gear Solid(and also many more connections wich some may remember from MGS 1) ,and the new equipepment are great. But it lacks three things. The game was not as long as MGS 1. ( If you didin't finish don't read this one ) It would much better if you had the Sword (I think it was a Katana) earlier.Like in the beggining of the game.Even though it was supposed to be ( you'll understand this if you finished it) , it is too much like MGS1 . So the story Is A very little bit .........umm ...how should I put this..... Bad.
