Gaming heaven.

The quality of this game is quite stunning. You will be in awe at just about every second of play you have on this game.

From the lifelike and beautiful graphics, to the tremendous storyline, you are in for a treat.

This game must have taken ages to make! The amount of polish, extras, and hidden things in this game are beyond believable.
Every time you play you will find something new to do.
Everything from doing pushups to increase your strength, to shooting radios out of guards hands, to 'holding up' enemies at gunpoint.

Theres nothing really i can put to words here. This is one of those rare games that leaves a memorable impression years later. Kojima, the maker of the MGS series, is a video game genius and creates a true piece of art with each Metal Gear game.

This game is as close to gaming perfection and seemless action as you can possibly get.

After playing the first Metal Gear Solid, I couldn't wait for this game to come out. I was a huge fan of the first, and I just had a feeling that the 2nd would be just as good as the first. Well, it came out, and guess what? It was. This is more than just a video game, this is more like a video game masterpiece. There had never been any game released before this that could even compare to this, and really the only other game today that can compare is Metal Gear Solid 3.

For one, this game is visually breathtaking. The graphics make full use of the PS2's capabilities, and what you get is literally PERFECT graphics. Everything is beautifully detailed and realistic, and you can see things like rain bouncing off enemies or your character. You can also knock over or shoot glass bottles, etc. and actually see their contents spill out (I know it's not that interesting, but it's so cool to see). The sound is also phenomenal, and this game probably has the BEST music from a video game ever. Harry Gregson Williams is a genius, and the theme he wrote for this game is epic.

However, there is one thing about this game that stands out above everything, and that is its story. Until I played this video game, I had never played a video game where you actually had to think about what just happened, or you had to really pay attention in order to understand the story. It's like watching a movie, and although this seems to irritate some people, I personally love it. And, the twist at the end was just crazy (Actually, there are two twists, each more shocking than the next!). The one negative thing about this is because the game is so story heavy, you will probably spend about as much time playing as you will watching cinematics and codec conversations. Another thing to note is that you DON'T play as Snake the whole time, but rather as a guy named Raiden for the majority. People can't stand him, but it doesn't bother me. It doesn't affect the way you play the game at all.

Overall, this game is in my opinion the BEST game on PS2. However, because of certain aspects such as the complicated story and Raiden, I'd recommend you rent the game first. If you loved Metal Gear Solid for PS1, you may or may not like this one. If you are able to not let the long cinemas or Raiden bother you, then you will definitely love this game. There is alot of violence in this game if you choose to shoot people(you can sneak past them or knock them out also), and the complicated story might make it inappropriate for little kids. Other than that, this game is a must buy. It belongs in any video game collection.

I don`t like Raiden he is whiny,moody and arrogant-But aside all that i actually prefer Metal Gear Solid 2 over The Twin Snakes simply because MGS2 is longer and abit harder.Metal gear Solid 3 is the best though.anywaysss.
In 2001 PS2 had a great year the debut of the Grand Theft Auto series on PS2 and in 3D-as GTAIII,Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 and this:Metal Gear Solid 2:Sons Of Liberty-all three games lived up to their hypes.
This is all about the game.

TANKER:It is August 2007 Solid Snake and Hal"Otacon"Emmerich now belong to a U.N. unit called "PHILANTHROPY" which was set up seek out and sabotage any Metal Gear Units throughout the world or any other Nuclear capable weapon like BiPedal and SuperTanks(like MGS3`s ShagoHod).Solid Snake boards the ship as planned by equping the Stealth Camoflage and bungee jumps of the GW bridge and on to the U.S. Marine Corps occupied oil Tanker as Snake prepares for his mission suddenly a soldier in dark-orange camoflage,a balaclava sneaks up on a crewman and stabs him to death-Snake recognises the assault rifle he is carrying;it is an AKS-74u which is currently in operation with Russian Military-But the brutality doesn`t stop their more unidentified soldiers start sneaking up and killing crewmen and dumping them into the river,Snake than sees a man with white hair and mustashe Snake reckons he is Russian-which is epaphised by the unknown man putting on one of those Russian hat thingies-Snake snaps a picture of him-Than the game begins.

The PLANT:Now it is 2009,two years since the Tanker went down and Snake and Otacon have been framed for the incident suggested by the Cypher which snapped them after Snake defeated Olga.Players now take the control of Raiden a new soldier freash from Force XXI and VR Training who has been sent solo to resque hostages and the U.S. prez:James Johnson,to eliminate the C4 explosives and to stop the Terrorists plot.THE GAME GOES ON FROM HERE...

ITEMS:

Cigarettes:One of Solid Snakes faverite things.Can be used to uncover laser beams that may trigger a bomb or alarm-But consume life while in use so use them when in need.

Pent-Pills:Used to stop trembling in the hands when sniping.

B.D.U:Aquired in the middle of the game,it is a Gurlukovich Infantry uniform which is used to get into the hostage hall to contact Ames-Also after Raiden loses the balaclava can be used to make footprints look like the guards footprints so they won`t notice them.

Body Armor:Can be used to minimise bullet damge.

etc.

WEAPONS:

Beretta M9 Tranq. psitol+Suppressor:Most non-violent gun in the game doesn`t hurt the guards just gives them a LONG nap.

USP:Powerful pistol thats just useful for having-u can kill the guards with these things.Also has a light attached.

SOCOM:Same as USP but w/o the light attachment.

Hand-Grenade:grenades that can be thrown and make an explosion.#
STUN grenade:a non-lethal grenade that knocks out the guards for a couple of minutes.
CHAFF grenade:Non-effective to humans but can puzzle electronic systems for a couple of minutes.

Claymore mine:Non-personnel explosive that can be put on the floor and ANYONE who is in its explosion diameter will be blown to bits+PLUS RED LEGS.

C4:Not the same stuff that you had to put out but a remote explosive that will explode in Snake/Raiden`s decision.

M4 CARBINE:Yep one of the U.S. Military`s fave assault rifle these things are nifty are very smooth and fire 30 Rounds per Magazine.Snake carries one alot in the Tanker.Any U.S. militant has one-the Marines or the Navy SEALs.

AKS-74u:The other assault rifle that is one of the Russian Military`s faves.a Rough gun that fires 30 rounds per mag.It is carried by all the Gurlukovich soldiers in the Tanker and in the SHELL 1 CORE-the other soldiers carry an AN-94 a gun u don`t get to use.

AN-94:Carried by all of the Olga-Gurlukovich soldiers that dress in urban grey rather than dark orange cam.Snake or Raiden don`t get to use this assault rife and is found all over the SHELL 1 and SHELL 2 apart from the S1 CORE.

NIKITA:R/C missile laucher that can be used to guide missile sthrough ducts.

STINGER:A very good Rocket-Launcher that can lock onto targets and follow them until they destroy them.

The GRENADE LAUNCHER:Shoots grenades more accuratly then throwing them-Plus further.

Too many cutscenes. Blood a little distracting (PROS: YOU CAN TURN off Blood) Raiden sucks. Exclemation points, question marks, bisexual vampires. What more needs to be said.

I played Splinter Cell before I ever played this game, maybe that is why I like Splinter Cell better, but this is a fun game. I think that Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid arew two completly different games, so I don not believe that Splinter Cell is a rip off. SC is using shadows and light for stealth, wheras MGS is using Objects and the environment. Splinter cell also is more realistic. I think the Tom Clancy name tells all.

It looks to me like in Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots, they're trying to rip off Splinter Cell by making Snake an old man. And how is it that Hal{OTACON}Emmerich doesn't age when Solid Snake does?

It can be pretty stupid too, how is it that one friggen man can take out an entire Navy SEALs team with a knife. SEALs and Green Berets are the most skilled and talented soldiers in the world, Vamp is just a homo (Literally). and why doews the woman who wants to die use an electromagnetic shield ? and did fatman just crap out that last bomb. How the frigg did it get under him.

I went to my friend's house and played the metal gear solid 2 demo. Wow! it was pretty fun and realstic too! For example, when you shoot the ice bucket, you can see the ice shrinking and melting on the floor. Oh yeah, the guards are more alertive. I mean, if they see you, they radio other guard; so you either shoot the guard or the radio he's holding. My favorite thing to do is to sneak up on the guard and toture him by shooting him in the arms and legs. I hope the game doesn't just take place in the boat.

I Think that Metal Gear Solid is going to be the number one hit game in history! For Playstation 2. I have Playstation 2 and played Metal Gear Solid. It was awesome! so i think you should buy it if you have a Playstation 2.

The first was better, still a good game.

This sequel to one of the best selling PS1 games left me a little dissapointed due to that fact that the cutscenes are longer than the actual gameplay, there are parts where I can't figure out what the hell is going on, and I know alot about MGS. If your looking for good gameplay, get the first one if you don't already have it. Arsenal Gear was much easier in this game even though there are 3 of them. 1 metal gear was harder in the first one. However, I will point out this. The graphics in this game are breathtaking. You will see many improvements in this game. You can also zoom in during cutscenes. No point to doing it, just something Hideo Kojima added in there. A 3...out of 5

The most unfortunate thing about this game is Raiden. Raiden is your typical inexperienced, over commpassionate, teenage hero!!!! He's very much like Luke Skywalker, who receives a lightsaber and suddenly possesses a power which enables him to destroy every vestige of evil in the universe! Raiden, like many other hollywood heros, is unsuprisingly, a pathetic joke. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's tired of game developers producing young, inexperienced, moronic heros, guided by the belief that gamers will be able to relate to them better. If that was true, then why is MGS 1's hero, 40 year old Solid Snake, the most revered hero in computer game history? Now, I understand that Snake couldn't have been used for this game due to the storyline, but still, I would have preferred someone who was less submissive, who could be perceived as strong, and who wasn't a girl which Radien arguably is! Since Raiden is essentially a pathetic joke, it's hard to believe that he's the hero they make him out to be.

Many people hated the MGS2 storyline, but I think the story could be percieved as fascinating by some or absurdly bizarre by the rest. I suppose the nearest thing it could be equated to are those conspiracy theories that you find on the web, like massive underground alien bases, LSD experiments, mind control experiments, etc... If you're a fan of that stuff, then you'll probably find the storyline interesting.

Other than Raiden and the storyline, the game is pretty good. The gamplay, the innovations, the graphics (unexampled still) and the AI can't be faulted, it's just that some might feel that Raiden and the storyline have pulled this game down into the s******. The game's lengh is a problem too. But that's about it! All in all, the game is good, but it's nowhere near as good as MGS 1.

MGs2 is one of the best games i've ever played. The things you can do are so realistic from cracking people's necks to Tranquilizing people. Everything about it is stunning!!!! The game has many twists and turns but everything makes sense. The game is scary, funny, exciting and flat out awesome. The game has great graphics and audio and visual effects. This is one of the best games mankind has ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i love this game. metal gear solid was the best game i ever played it had a good story and everything, part two is going to be the best game on playstation 2 i cant wait until this game comes out i am difinitly going to get this game.lets just put it as the number one game for now i like final fantasy 10 better.
