I am a fan of the Myst series, and think it is one of the most creative concepts ever. But, I couldn't get this game to run on my PC. I am an experienced multimedia programmer. All my other games have worked, sometimes after a little tweaking, but not this one. It continually looks for CDs in alternating drives. It turns off sound until I reboot. It hangs the system, inconsistantly. All of my drivers are up to date. I am tired of wasting my money on worthless junk. Until this stuff is reliable, I'm not going to waste my time on it any more. I wanted to rate this at zero stars, but the form required 1 - 5.
How many more can you have?

Let me start out by saying the graphics in this game are really incredible, but the thing that haunts this Myst and the other Myst's are that fact that they are to hard. I bought Riven or Myst II and quit after a few days. The puzzles just get to weird. The same applies for Myst III. There is so much stuff you could do with each puzzle and they are so weird that you can spend an eternity doing one puzzle. They made the Myst games so they can make people buy game guides for them so both companies are happy. I would have never beat Myst if I did not buy a book for it. Myst III screams out buy a book because it's so difficult.

I have a Sony Vaio, 866 mhz, 8 months old, and I too cannot play the game! It is extremely disappointing, because now my computer is in the shop because, as the company said, my computer is corrupted from the game. I don't know if I will be able to eventually play the game, as I need to reinstall Windows on my computer--maybe then it will work. Also, other games that worked fine before Exile was installed now give me error messages and crash. Hopefully this patch they are working on will be helpful to us disappointed Myst fans...

I loved MIST & RIVEN and couldn't get MYST III fast enough. After years in the software business I should have known better than to purchase version 1.0. If you have a MAC, I suggest you wait several months, years? until Ubisoft corrects all of their problems. For now, I am stuck with a game that is unplayable due to visable grid lines, very jumpy mouse control and choppy speech. Ubisoft answered my email saying that they will get back to me in 24 hours. That was 10 days ago and I am still waiting. I hope ... will return my money.

I am a fan of Myst and Riven, and was excited when Exile came out. Unfortunately, that was short lived right after installation. Unlike Myst or Riven, for which I had no problems, Exile did nothing but crash my computer. The only way I could get my computer back to normal was to uninstall Exile. I wanted to play the game, not spend hours on a phone or chase emails for possible solutions with Tech support. My computer is a Sony Vaio, pentium III, 500mhz, with plenty of speed that has no problem running all my other software. I decided to skip the frustration and return Exile. I owned it for all of two hours.

Myst III: Exile isn't as dark as Myst or Riven. I think it's better that way, actually. This game has some of the best visuals and scenery in the series so far. The new 360 degree free-look is awesome. The story is the deepest I've seen in the series so far. The puzzles are a little silly and out of place, but they are still fun and challenging. Myst III: Exile is certainly, so far the best in the series.

This game has something for everyone. Having never played Myst I or II, I was happy to find that knowledge of these was not necessary. I enjoyed the cut videos, and the anticipation of more interactions with the theif, he's a good actor (it's a real guy). The game can be played using the mouse to navigate everywhere with ease. I found many of the puzzles frustrating and difficult. I had to cheat more than I would like to admit. The thrill was alive as I hunted for clues in a colorful pinball/roller coaster type world, explored fantastic exotic forests and an eerie deserted cave world. There is a feeling of actually being in the world you are exploring. The music is well done. I really loved this game! Good ending if you are merciful.
The best of both Myst and Riven

Myst III: Exile combines the best of the original Myst with the best of Riven. Puzzles are not pointless: There is a relationship from world to world, consistent with the original Myst. I thought this feature was lacking in Riven. The animation in Exile is also excelllent so long as the 1st run product is enhanced with an online patch. The multiple choice ending is also exciting. I found there is actually 2 solutions considered a win, although one is obviously preferrable. I must admit that I found the scenery in Riven to be the most captivating. However, the transition from world to world in Exile is unbeleivable. In fact, After moving from the 2nd world, I decided to save the thrid world in a different file so I could "replay it" for others to see. Characters are good, plot is very good--- While Riven was a bit disappointing, I found Exile to be challenging, entertaining, and a game that intensified my Myst "link" once again!

What I love about the Myst games is their beauty, sensitivity, story and aesthetics. I do not normally play computer games, but I go out of my way for a game like this. I have a Mac G3 Blue and White, plenty of extensions and happy to say I have had no really serious problems with the game.
There are a few glitches, however, the main one being the hand and arrow cursor appearing separately at times. I can fix this by changing the monitor resolution back and forth and restarting, though, it seems to be a bug, and a player should not have to do this.
Another problem, which perhaps would not be seen as a concern by the publishers, was a couple of aspects of navigation. As I had played the previous games, I had (incorrectly) assumed that I could grab the books and papers at the bottom of the page all the time. I know that the key calls were documented in the user manual inserted in th disk case, but of course, I did not bother reading it, especially as the type size is so tiny. As a consequence, I thought there was a bug in the game, until I went online and found that others were encountering the same difficulty. There should be along with all the choices at the beginning of the game, an option page with a list of mouse and keyboard commands (which addressed this).
The puzzles I found good, but some were too obscure, and found I needed a couple of 'soft hints' to get around them. Without giving anything away, the main problems I found were in the interpretation of the task requirements, rather than the actual mechanics of obtaining the solutions. A person who does cryptic crosswords needs to be able to understand the mind and terminology residing in the puzzle maker's mind. With Myst I and Riven, this was not so.
One of the other frustrating aspects to problem solving in the game, was the fact that I had to make several journeys back and forth for certain solutions, which I found a waste of time. I finally had to do this by saving games under different names (more wasted time). Examples are Reflection Poles, Resonance Rings and Balance Bridge. To solve these puzzles, travel from one point to another took quite a while, even in Zip Mode. It would have been a better idea to have a local map allowing a click back to the last position visited in that area. I would have much rather have not looked at any hints, but simply did not have the time to afford this.
I do think that the 360degree virtual world was much better for orientation than the previous games, and gave me a perfect sense of direction for navigation as it was in the round, simulating a real world immersive environment.
The music was excellent, and I would like to thank the producers for taking the time, thought and providing financial investment in hiring an composer, conductor, orchestra, choir, singers and acoustic musicians to perform for this production. Pity about the last song, it was a very weak piece, quite crass, in comparison with the rest of the music. I also recommend paying the extra money for the commemorative version with the Audio CD etc.
The rides were terrific, but I think all the ages' rides should have been as exciting and long. The best one was in Amateria. All the others seemed a little curtailed. You need to feel its worth it, having made the effort to get through each age!
BTW, what about REALMYST for the MAC.
