Some of the best in military simulation

Quite frankly, I'm shocked that this game hasn't gotten so many good reviews. This is one of the best military sims I've ever played, and I've played quite a few. If you don't believe me, at least download the GR demo somewhere.
Graphics-
I don't really pay much mind to graphics unless they're truly bad or make me think I'm watching something real, and Ghost Recon is neither. The environments are nice, but everything else is only standard.
Gameplay-
This game is rather unforgiving. Where running into one area without being careful can mean the difference between life and a character change, the overall experience is very intense on par with survival horror games. Rambo-to-be's need not apply.
Sound-
Not terribly groundbreaking here, but some of the explosions and gunshot sounds were nice.
Playability and controls-
If you've grown up on run-and-gun games, prepare for a complete mental plastic surgery. The only complains I have here are the enlarging aimers of all Clancy games. They take a bit too long to get small enough. But, since targets (including you) go down at 2 shots at most, this probably won't be a problem anyway. The lack of jumping is a bit odd too.
Replayability-
Through the roof. There are multiple modes for playing each mission. For example, you could do the actual mission, or select firefight mode (where you just have to kill all the baddies) or recon (where you just have to make it to the checkpoint). Both bring suprising longetivity to the game, as well as the many unlockables, and of course, Live play.

With Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, squad based combat on the XBox lets you play through single player missions or take it online with XBox Live for up to 16 simultaneous players.
Gameplay involves you running a team of up to 6 members. The team members can be snipers, foot soldiers, engineers, and more. As in Rainbox Six, you can build your teammates up through the levels so they can gain more skills.
The single player missions are interesting, with landscapes varying from countryside to small towns to big city streets. You have to use stealth and strategy to achieve your objectives without dying or running out of ammo. Each teammate must use his strengths and help cover for each other's weaknesses.
The graphics aren't exactly stunning - while the buildings have windows and doors drawn on them, for example, you can't shoot out the windows. It's more like they are giant squares with murals painting on them. On the other hand, the human bodies are extremely well done, with their movement and actions.
The sounds are immersive and draw you in. There's background noises of wind and cars which can make it harder for you to hear the footsteps of your enemy ... or at times mask the noise of your own footsteps. If a loud noise happens near you, it gives the realistic temporary 'underwater' sensation as in real life.
Single player is just practice for the real fun of Ghost Recon - XBox Live play. Unlike PS2 or Computer gameplay, with XBox Live you're guaranteed that other players all have a high speed (Cable Modem) connection speed. This means the lag you see in many other on line games is pretty much completely avoided.
We play a ton of games on line and this is one of our current favorites. Recommended for XBox Live owners who enjoy team-based gameplay.
This is more like a simulation game rather than action.

Among the years I've played my share of great First Person Shooters(FPS). Some of my favorites are N64's Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, Medal of Honor(all three), and last but not least HALO. Now Ghost Recon has entered my list, bulldozing its way up to the number one spot. A couple years ago, Ghost Recon would have never made my list. But my taste in videogames has matured significantly over time. My appreciation for realism in videogames emerged after I've grown tired of the stale, used-up formula of most FPS. It seems that most developers of FPS don't know what gamers seek when picking up a controller and emerging themselves into the world that spans out in front of their eyes. Ghost Recon grabbed me by the collar and hasn't let go. It's not fancy and elegant like HALO but it's more convincing and suspenseful than Medal of Honor. That's what I seek. A combination of thrill and realism. Ghost Recon delivers very well in that department. Few gripes I have about Ghost Recon are mere polish issues. Graphics, sound, collision detection, and pop-ups could have used a little touch-up but they don't take away from the heart of the game.
Great game,Try it!

Ghost Recon is a really good game. What I really like about the game is that you can be standing,on a knee,or flat on the ground
At first I didn't like this game then my brother kind of talked me into getting the game. This game was never at blockbuster,we would always have to go to a second blockbuster but they still didn't have it either. Finally on one day I went to blockbusterthey had it.It's really hard to find for some reason. What you should do is you should either buy the game without renting it or try the game at one of your friend's houses. So my brother and I have the game right now and it's been going pretty good with the game Ghost Recon. You all should try this game.

If you like combat games, but don't mind being patient and planning the strategy, then you will LOVE Ghost Recon. And Xbox Live makes it much better.
If you like non-stop, frontal assault games (Halo), then you will probably find Ghost Recon frustrating or boring.
In this game, you have to use planning and stealth.
Planning means that you have to decide how to navigate 2 teams of 3 soldiers through an area to minimize casualties, eliminate enemies and protect your teammates. Halo is a great game - but you'll never experience this element of strategy in it.
Stealth means you have to be prepared to go slowly and patiently. If you move as fast as you can towards a goal, you're bound to get shot by an enemy hiding behind a tree. In some cases, you have to crawl into position. In others, you have to continuously scan an area to find a camouflaged enemy soldier.
There is plenty of challenge and variety in this game. And, once you go live, the team play and strategy take on a whole new dimension.

If you'rea counter-strike fan, or any online FPS fan, this is a must-get game. Based on Red Storm Entertainment's history (Rainbow Six series), Ghost Recon didn't earn 2001 PC game of the year for nothing. It allows 16-players to go online with voice communications. It is a more upgraded and polished version of the PC title. Team-work and realism is what this game is about. And the voice communications capabilities makes this game even better than the PC version.

I bought this game after beta-testing the XBOX live for a few months. I was looking for another quality "Live" experience. I was very surprised at how consuming this game has become. First, the quality of the other "live" players is the highest I've experienced. They are all helpful and considerate. Unlike my experiences with some of the MotoGP and Mech Assault crew. The game offers many challenges like cooperative and last-man-standing. Secondly, the off-line individual game and 50 challenges included create a very captivating gaming experience. The enemies move in a dynamic and unpredictable fashion. Every game is unique, even if you restart a previously-played level. Finally, the element of realism is unsurpassed by any game I've played, incuding HALO. Naturally Halo is a Sci-Fi game, however the reaction to hits that the enemies endure and the noises that they make is astonding. Add to this, Dolby 5.1 surround and DVD-quality picture, make Ghost Recon an absolute must for the XBOX and makes the XBOX a Must for Console gamers.

Ghost Recon is probably the best xbox game I have ever played. Well, I really can't tell you much about the single player of the game because all I've played is the online multiplayer, and let me tell you, it is extremely fun. This game is not an average shoot em up game, it requires skill. You will almost always die in one or two shots so people don't go around spraying bullets, people lurk around hiding in corners. In fact, a lot of the time you die you don't even know where person who killed you was. And when your on a team talking to people with the headset, not a keyboard, planning out how you're going to take down the enemies it is so fun. Definitely a must have game if you have xbox live, and if you don't have xbox live get it.
Awesome!!!

This is a great game. It has its flaws, but what game doesn't? I mean even Halo has its problems. The invisible barriers are annoying, and no jumping, but really doesn't hurt the overall experience too much. Night vision is a little weird but after getting used to it you won't mind it. Not picking up dead guys weapons is not a real problem (not being able to is realistic if you think about it, Bond can carry 13 guns but not real people) and don't have you demo guy die if you need to blow a bridge. That's about it for bad stuff. I haven't played online yet but I've heard good and bad things but I can't comment. It is very realistic. It isn't just point and shoot. You actually have to take time to aim. Slow paced but very fun and has its action filled moments. It gives you a real feeling of what war is. Graphics are outstanding. Play is good. I've heard complaints about the movement, but I play some paintball and I can tell you its hard to move with all that [stuff] on your back. Also, nice that there are real world connections, such as Russia and real guns. Its a real treat to blow the [stuff]out of a tank with a rocket. Oh, ya the bodies don't disappear and neither do dead tanks, adding to realism (but also making this game not for kiddies). Sound is excellent. Gun shots sound very realistic, the background noise is good too (I mean footsteps, birds, planes, tank shots, etc.) Turning up the brightness/ contrast on your TV will help with any vision problems you have, even though the way things look in the game are how they really look. Buy this game its worth the money!
