ghost recon

Ghost Recon is probably the best xbox game I have ever played. Well, I really can't tell you much about the single player of the game because all I've played is the online multiplayer, and let me tell you, it is extremely fun. This game is not an average shoot em up game, it requires skill. You will almost always die in one or two shots so people don't go around spraying bullets, people lurk around hiding in corners. In fact, a lot of the time you die you don't even know where person who killed you was. And when your on a team talking to people with the headset, not a keyboard, planning out how you're going to take down the enemies it is so fun. Definitely a must have game if you have xbox live, and if you don't have xbox live get it.

This is more like a simulation game rather than action.

Among the years I've played my share of great First Person Shooters(FPS). Some of my favorites are N64's Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, Medal of Honor(all three), and last but not least HALO. Now Ghost Recon has entered my list, bulldozing its way up to the number one spot. A couple years ago, Ghost Recon would have never made my list. But my taste in videogames has matured significantly over time. My appreciation for realism in videogames emerged after I've grown tired of the stale, used-up formula of most FPS. It seems that most developers of FPS don't know what gamers seek when picking up a controller and emerging themselves into the world that spans out in front of their eyes. Ghost Recon grabbed me by the collar and hasn't let go. It's not fancy and elegant like HALO but it's more convincing and suspenseful than Medal of Honor. That's what I seek. A combination of thrill and realism. Ghost Recon delivers very well in that department. Few gripes I have about Ghost Recon are mere polish issues. Graphics, sound, collision detection, and pop-ups could have used a little touch-up but they don't take away from the heart of the game.

Requires Patience

If you like combat games, but don't mind being patient and planning the strategy, then you will LOVE Ghost Recon. And Xbox Live makes it much better.

If you like non-stop, frontal assault games (Halo), then you will probably find Ghost Recon frustrating or boring.

In this game, you have to use planning and stealth.

Planning means that you have to decide how to navigate 2 teams of 3 soldiers through an area to minimize casualties, eliminate enemies and protect your teammates. Halo is a great game - but you'll never experience this element of strategy in it.

Stealth means you have to be prepared to go slowly and patiently. If you move as fast as you can towards a goal, you're bound to get shot by an enemy hiding behind a tree. In some cases, you have to crawl into position. In others, you have to continuously scan an area to find a camouflaged enemy soldier.

There is plenty of challenge and variety in this game. And, once you go live, the team play and strategy take on a whole new dimension.

XBOX Live at its best: Ghost Recon

I bought this game after beta-testing the XBOX live for a few months. I was looking for another quality "Live" experience. I was very surprised at how consuming this game has become. First, the quality of the other "live" players is the highest I've experienced. They are all helpful and considerate. Unlike my experiences with some of the MotoGP and Mech Assault crew. The game offers many challenges like cooperative and last-man-standing. Secondly, the off-line individual game and 50 challenges included create a very captivating gaming experience. The enemies move in a dynamic and unpredictable fashion. Every game is unique, even if you restart a previously-played level. Finally, the element of realism is unsurpassed by any game I've played, incuding HALO. Naturally Halo is a Sci-Fi game, however the reaction to hits that the enemies endure and the noises that they make is astonding. Add to this, Dolby 5.1 surround and DVD-quality picture, make Ghost Recon an absolute must for the XBOX and makes the XBOX a Must for Console gamers.

Awesome!!!

This is a great game. It has its flaws, but what game doesn't? I mean even Halo has its problems. The invisible barriers are annoying, and no jumping, but really doesn't hurt the overall experience too much. Night vision is a little weird but after getting used to it you won't mind it. Not picking up dead guys weapons is not a real problem (not being able to is realistic if you think about it, Bond can carry 13 guns but not real people) and don't have you demo guy die if you need to blow a bridge. That's about it for bad stuff. I haven't played online yet but I've heard good and bad things but I can't comment. It is very realistic. It isn't just point and shoot. You actually have to take time to aim. Slow paced but very fun and has its action filled moments. It gives you a real feeling of what war is. Graphics are outstanding. Play is good. I've heard complaints about the movement, but I play some paintball and I can tell you its hard to move with all that [stuff] on your back. Also, nice that there are real world connections, such as Russia and real guns. Its a real treat to blow the [stuff]out of a tank with a rocket. Oh, ya the bodies don't disappear and neither do dead tanks, adding to realism (but also making this game not for kiddies). Sound is excellent. Gun shots sound very realistic, the background noise is good too (I mean footsteps, birds, planes, tank shots, etc.) Turning up the brightness/ contrast on your TV will help with any vision problems you have, even though the way things look in the game are how they really look. Buy this game its worth the money!

Understand the name, get the game!!

This real life simulation of squad-based combat tactics requires foreplay-- you just don't go charging in like MOH. My first thoughts upon playing it was "wow, this is like deer hunting" only you and your squad of elites are hunting humans, that are out for you! It's a game of chess, with well thought out moves in positioning and "cover your a**". There are 15 missions to complete, but with the game being so non-linear, the replay value is tremendous. Some have criticized the game because they "didn't see anything" before they got KIA. My answer: look around a lot more, and anticipate ambushes! Place your squad on "suppress", and fire in those bushes if you suspect enemies lie in wait. Some have criticized that you "can't see your weapon". My answer: take the focus off your member, and concentrate on looking around! (that's probably why it doesn't stick out in the first place--it obstructs your field of vision). Set up (2) members in Alpha and Bravo teams with good leadership, then switch between them as you set up your squad for an ambush of the enemy. After some practice, this tactic becomes second nature and you truly feel in command. My ONLY criticism of the game is this: whichever team you are on, Alpha or Bravo, the other two guys follow you around like dogs, helpful though they are. My only problem with this is, sometimes you would like to do RECON on your own, for short distances, and you could do it more effectively if these guys weren't always on your tail.

It does not get much better than this !

I own ~10 X-box games and this is the only one I play. I simply can't get enough! It is a regular routine, my wife goes to sleep and I play Ghost Recon! It just gets better and better! I used to play Halo and now, looking back, Halo "is bad" compared to this game (not that it is bad but Ghost Recon is just soo much better). Buy it... Rent it... what ever you have to do to play this game!

New title or remake of Rainbow Six

First of all I must say this game is very good. The details are excellent and the strategy and gameplay is definetly worth the money if and only if you are the kind of gamer that enjoys FPS's that are realistic. Do not pick this game up if you like to just run in doom style and blow everything apart! This game is strongly reminiscant of Rainbow Six for N64. Why you ask? Well, First this game unlike other titles out now(SOCOM U.S. Navy SEAL's) requires pre-planning in other words once you are in the game the plan is pretty much set and the men you control try to follow that as much as poosible sure you can tell them to move to certain area but eventualy they go back to following the pre made plan. Next, this game is like Rainbow Six because it has that under tone that either the AI is really stupid (i.e. i once threw a grenade in a building and they just stood there) or the AI is really extravegantly hard (i.e. the AI occasionaly likes to go full out Rambo on you and hide around a corner or someplace you wouldn't think they would hide in and they turn you into human swiss cheese). But I must say this game is one of the best title for XBOX that is out now but i must warn all those gamers out there that have either no patience, do not like planning and just like to go in guns-a-blazing, or those gamers that played Rainbow Six and hated it to not get this game. But for those of you that love these kind of games by all means buy this game and be enlightened.

Surprisingly challenging...

This game is actually very serious and scary when you consider that it's based on a futuristic battlefield scenario and depicted realistically. There's no fantasy or sci-fi element, it's uniquely raw and unformulated. Rather than having unlimited ammo, sexy allure and sharp wit to get you through, you have only have to rely on your own inituitive, quick planning, stealth and skill. Your actions also have consequences and you're enemies are just as intelligent and determined as you and your allies.
If you also consider the context - if this is real - it could be very scary and emotional. You're in a vast foreign environment and you could be killed instantly if you're not careful. Just imagine that this is what soldiers really experience (obviously worse in reality). This is a very provocative and insightful gaming experience which really teaches the player about the 'real world' (to a certain extent)...
This, in a way, is a form of escapism from other more conventional and mindless video games. It's nice to have a bit of a change and this isn't likely to influence a new notion of 'reality-based' gaming anyway (for those who dislike it).
- This is more suitable for older gamers and those with patience who prefer challenging strategy games. Don't buy this game under the impression it's another 'Halo'.

EXCELLENT FPS WAR GAME

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon pits you as an elite special forces member taking part in various missions against Russian Ultranationalists who want to re-create the Soviet empire.

Similar to other squad-based first person shooters where you pick a team of soldiers from 4 classes: Rifleman, support, snipers, and Demolitions. You then pick a weapons kit for each member, outfitting him with the gear you think they'll need for whatver mission you are on.

Some great maps and settings to play in. But this is one tough game. Tougher enemies than usual, I think. You can play with a friend via split screen, or go online and play on Xbox live.

Lots of depth to the various missions. Good graphics but not as good, in my opinion, as Rainbow Six.

Online play is very good, with a variety of different games to play and little lag.
