Ghost Recon is good single player game. It offers a decent amount of missions and the controls are excellent, but the missions take anywhere from 5-30 minutes to beat. It will take you a maximum of one day to beat the entire game twice.
It's probably a great live game (I don't know, I don't have Xbox live), but it's not worth buying for single player. Go rent it, like I did, and you'll thank me.

A must get Xbox Live title

If you'rea counter-strike fan, or any online FPS fan, this is a must-get game. Based on Red Storm Entertainment's history (Rainbow Six series), Ghost Recon didn't earn 2001 PC game of the year for nothing. It allows 16-players to go online with voice communications. It is a more upgraded and polished version of the PC title. Team-work and realism is what this game is about. And the voice communications capabilities makes this game even better than the PC version.

Great game its about as real as it gets not like halo or metal gear solid. Very fun i would pay twice the price. If you like a ton of guns and lots of levels its the game for you. Cant say how much fun it is.

3 stars just for being Clancy.

Not to put the XBOX down. I love it to death. But nothing in the console gaming world has ever compared to the computer. True you never have to worry if the game will work or not on your system with consoles, but you loose so much game wise. I purchased GR a long time ago on the PC. It was an amazing game. Graphics, crisp, detailed, realistic. Unpresidented sound quality. I have yet to see a game replicate the sound that an M249 S.A.W. makes when fired. This game has it down. I should know. But when I bought it for XBOX thinking I could take it on a deployment with me, I was sorely dissapointed.
Graphics were descent at best. Very hazy. Controls. PLEASE SOME ONE, THROW ME A KEYBOARD AND MOUSE. Sound is the best part. Why buy this game for XBOX live when you can pay 20$ for the original copy on the computer? My opinion, buy for PC if you can, if not, then you dont know what you are missing.

I've never been in combat. I doubt I'll ever be in combat. It is my understanding that a great deal of combat involves sneaking around, scuttling through underbrush so as to remain undetected, and basically trying to make oneself as invisible as possible. Therefore, this game deserves credit for trying to depict that aspect as realistically as possible. But in my opinion that does not necessarily translate to fun gaming.

To be fair, I gave up on the game during the first level of the single player campaign. Maybe it gets better; I don't know. But after about the fifth time I got killed by an enemy soldier without ever even seeing him, I got a little frustrated. Sure, that's probably how it would happen in the real world. Guess what? I DON'T CARE about the real world when it comes to video games. I want to have fun, and that is all.

For me, "Ghost Recon" fails miserably in the fun area.

must have

took back Mortal Kombat for Ghost Recon. What a smart move it was. This game is sweet. If you want a game that takes strategy instead of running around and shooting people, then get this. I put it in the xbox and went straight to live. I was getting wasted left and right, so i played one player campaign. It helps you out a lot. A couple hours and missions in campaign and i was back on live wasting the people who were wasting me. This game is awesome.

The best shooting game ever!

This game is one of the best shooting games ever because it has the most realistic graphics and it is even better when you play Ghost Recon online with other people from around the world!

This game requires field tactics, patience, and planning (i.e. Halo players will need to slow down). Of available games, this one may best represent the feel of real special ops.

Interaction: Control of play is rarely interupted by jerky movement that frequently happens with many games quickly ported over from other game systems. You know it is good when you don't notice.

Realism: While the graphics aren't leading edge detail, game play is believable and incoporates a certain mysterious fog of war display. Programmers did a great job of immersing you into the environment that is sometimes hazy, rainy, or dark.

Replayability: Because of the difficulty levels (recruit, veteran, elite), map selectability, and variable number of players, this game has been played in my house for many months. A few of my friends have become addicted to its theraputic quality. One even purchased an XBOX solely because of this game. We worked through the difficulty levels and then went in with fewer and fewer players. You're hooked when you setup for multiplayer, but with only one player each. Then take in only one and leave the other behind on ELITE (conserve your ammo).

Linked Play: Not much play but seemed effective.

AI: Is pretty good. However at choke points enemies will keep coming despite the growing pile of dead bodies. It would have been more intuitive to have them search for alternate paths.

Sequel: Island Thunder is coming soon (August 4th)

Liked it, but....

At first its kind of difficult to get the hang of but once you do, its pretty fun. Except, every time i try to blow up a tank, it freezes. doesn't freeze with any other game, just Ghost recon #1. The disk seems to be fine, no scratches or blemishes. But when im in my third mission right at the begining i have to blow up a Tank with Ati-Tank Demolitions and right when i shoot, BAM!!! it freezes. gets pretty annoying after a while and can't finish the mission. F-IT!!

Rent it first

I purchased this game based on all of the hype and good reviews I'd seen on it. Once I got it home to play it, not only did I not have fun, the game only succeded in making me angry.

I played through the training scenarios. Already I was not impressed with the controls. I tried playing the first mission 3 times. The premise seemed pretty simple. You're in control of 2 3-man teams. You sweep through an area, accomplishing tasks and killing unfriendlies. I was thoroughly wasted on all three times I played the first mission. I didn't even get close to the end of the first level. The controls were clumsy and the enemies were nigh impossible to see. Even the map gave me little information as to what was going on.

Now, I know you're supposed to take your time with this game. Halo it ain't. But, I like games that take time. I've played through levels of Splinter Cell and Hitman 2 multiple times just to get the fewest number of kills possible. I also finished Morrowind which is not exactly an instant gratification game. I didn't try to haul through GR, absorbing damage. There are some games some people just can't get the hang of. Maybe this was one of those for me. I also tried the first Rainbow 6 when it came out, and I hated that, too. Maybe it's squad-based games I hate. I would rather be in control of one guy and know exactly what he's doing than 6 and have 3 of those running around doing God knows what.

As with any game, I recommend renting it first. If you rent it and like it, great. It cost you an extra 3-5 bucks than if you just bought it. If you hate it, you save upwards of 45 bucks. The choice is yours.
