Upon starting the game, I was intrigued by the graphics, music, and abilities. That wore off fast. There was almost no story, and you couldn't get into the game. I couldn't love the characters like, persay, Final Fantasy 7 or Chronotrigger. Those games were so fun, that was about the best thing for the day. In this game I just wanted to finish what I had started. No love, no compasion.
I am not a Zelda hater. The game came as a dissapointment after Zelda 3, A Link In Time. I am a Final Fantasy fan(my favorite game being FF3 or FF2) but that does not make me bias. I think Zelda is a great game, but you can't get into it. All it is is fighting and puzzles, no plot, no story. That is why I am dissapointed. I just am not a fool that is succepted by eye candy. You have to build a story, a great story. Final Fantasy 7 is one of the best stories I've ever seen.
There are also not many exciting side-quests. Baldurs Gate had thousands that were almost more fun than the main game. I am just not that intrigued by fetching big poes for a hag in a run down city.(The most boring assignment ever!)
There are also no places to go that aren't part of the main game. You just have to stay to the main game and can't explore anywhere else. That reminds me, there isn't much to explore. In Baldur's Gate more than half the land is not important to the main game, and the possibilities are endless. Also you can go into every house, even if it doesn't have a point.
These are just a few of the reasons I am dissapointed. I have many, many more.
BEST VIDEO GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!

It's a shame that Zelda got ruined by WW and 4S. This is a really great game. Even though the graphics aren't A+, WHO CARES? Great game!
Pretty good, but seriously overrated.

First off, I'd like to say that I love the NES Zeldas and the SNES Zelda. But Zelda 64? Hmm...
This is a lot different from the others. I personally feel that there isn't much in the way of action, and the puzzles aren't too difficult. The bosses are too easy. Something is missing from this game...
I'd like to give a more in-depth review, but I really couldn't say why I don't like this one as much. Maybe its the lack of action, maybe its the easy puzzles. I don't know. It's not bad, though, but it is NOT the greatest game of all-time.
Sorry

DO not get me wrong. I am one of The BIGGEST Zelda fans in the world. and I bought this one as soon as it came out with the gold cartige and all.
But this Just isn't a Zelda game....
Its missing the Fancy tunes, the story just doesn't seem that addictive.
WHen you first get the game its great and it looks to be one of the best games. but then after you beat it.... its kinda boring...
Zelda games should never get boring! Zelda NES I STILL paly that damn game.' Link Not as good as the first but still I like playing it. Zelda A Link To the pass on SNES is the BEST Zelda game.
I just cannot love this game.. it did horrorble for a Zelda game.

Ninteno's latest attempt at a RPG was Zelda64:The Ocarina of Time. The game did have great graphics, utilizing most of the N64's potential ability. Most of the dungeons were well designed, offering the player a great challenge in finishing each dungeon towards the end. Not only in its dungeons, but The Ocarina of Time had many other challenging puzzles for the player in its towns and other locales. But aside from the great gameplay and graphics, it's on the game's plot and characterization that game itself falls short. The newest edition to the Zelda series once again brings back the same old tired plot of "Save Princess Zelda and defeat Gannon". The game never actually strays from this point, and it is very similiar to past Zelda games. Also the game focuses so much on its tired plot that it doesn't foucus too much on the main character Link, and as a result falters/lacks where other RPG's shine. All in all the The Legend Of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time is a good game and worth a long look at.

man, i remember getting this game when i was around 9 years old, and alll those hours i spent beating this game over and over again. I Gurantee I've beaten this game at least 100 times, Honestly! Though the N64 is outdated, from time to time I take it out of my closet and plug it in just to play this game. I hope the twilight princess will be just the same!
Good, but NOT an RPG

First of all, let me say that Zelda is a great game. Beautiful graphics, good controls, and all-around fun. But an RPG? No! The greatest game ever? NO WAY!
Why isn't Zelda an RPG? Some would say it's because there's no seperate battle system. I'm okay with that, though. The reason this game isn't a true RPG is the story: a young boy sets off to save his kingdom and princess from an evil ruler. Yahoo (imagine sarcasm here). If you want a game with a real, original story, go for FFVIII or Xenogears on the Playstation. So once again, Zelda's not an RPG, but an adventure game with an attempt at a plot.
With that one complaint aside, Zelda is awesome. You should get it, or at least try it out if you haven't. And by the way, you may have seen some reviews on Amazon that say Zelda is violent and dark. Ignore them. The people who wrote these reviews are the kind who'd freak out if they saw me flick someone's ear. If they say Zelda would get a PG-13 in the movies (which somebody did), then I guess Final Fantasy would get an NC-17. Anyway...

It was quit some time befor wes got news of Zelda64. Since none of us done get any newspapers or electicity in our cardboard boxes or shacks. But one day one of those city slicker kids came by and told us about his luxury living with his fancy electicity and plumbing. Then he talked about this "cool"(whatever that means) "game" called Ocarina of time for something on a Nintendo64. My 12 kids talked me into getting a second mortgage on my cardboard shack to buy a 64.Then i sold my mule to get a "TV"and electicity people came to hook it up but then told us we needed electicity. So i got a third mortgage to get electicity then we played. It was dern good "game" but it took me 3 years to finish it. Once i beat the game I had to sell it to get a libary card to come in and write this review....
