This game was a tad on the easy side for the most part, but it was still great fun. One of the best Zelda games. Cool places to explore and neat items to find.

This is one of the best games I have ever played. Even shooting the arrows is fun, you can actually use your shield to block getting hit. Just incredible. The only bad thing I can possibly say is you almost have to buy the strategy guide or else you will likely get stuck on some levels. There are a few dungeons that I could not find my way out of without buying the guide. But overall great game!!
Good Game, But......

I found Zelda64 to definatly be the best Nintendo64 game ever, but if you look at all the systems out there, it's most certainly not the best game ever. It really can't be called a true RPG, for it lacks multitudes of characters, and a has single story-line. Many mysteries the game gives to you are never solved, such as Zora's Domain never unfreezing (sorry for the spoiler). The game gives the general feel that it was rushed, with many well publisised glitches in the programing. Search the net and you will find many things that you can do that the programmers never ment to be available. This is mainly a product of poor play testing in an effort to get the game out in time for last year's holiday season. The graphics and play control are unserpased, however. Miyamoto has set a new standard in Adventure gaming as he did with the previous Zelda titles. The camera is also far easier on the user, poor camera control having always been a major problem of N64 games. The ability to target and face an enemy at all times is ingenious. I'm 13 years old, so I can't compare it to the first 2 games which I never got the chance to play, but I played A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening and Zelda64. I found Zelda64 to be the best of those three games . I only gave the game 4 stars because of the many un-resolved mysteries and glitches, but the game is by far the best 64 game. A must own for all with the system.
A vast epic missing one essential element: replay value

In literary circles, Zelda64 can be compared to JRR Tolkein's vast epic titled Lord of the Rings. This book, spanning upwards of a thousand pages, seems to have heavily influenced Miyamoto. Here are my reasons:
Lord of the Rings contains a young hero, Frodo, who is a hobbit, a creature somewhat akin to the Kokiri folk. Zelda contains a young hero, who is somewhat akin to hobbits.
Lord of the Rings centres around destroying omnipotent rings. Zelda centres around, at least partly, obtaining powerful rings.
Lord of the Rings contains a very powerful wizard, Gandalf. Zelda contains a very powerful wizard (theif) Ganondorf.
The characters in the novel travel a lot. In Zelda, Link travels a lot.
Now, you may take this two ways: Either you can think of Zelda as a ripoff and have less respect for it due to lack of originality or you can be glad to have another way to experience Lord of the Rings. Personally, I subscribe to both views.
All in all, read Lord of the Rings. It's more complete and satisfying, plus, you can always come back to it and read it over and over again, with a different experience each time.
Zelda, while aesthetically pleasing and offering tight controls, seems too predictable. . .travel from one dungeon to the next. . . beat the relatively easy boss. . .and so on. I actually preferred just walking around over actually entering the boring dungeons. There is not much motivation to pick up the game and play it again, unless you want to spend a while trying to collect all items and find all hidden stuff, which I must say is at a tangent to what the actual game is about. Still, buy it.

Ya'll maybe wondering why such a low rating. How on earth can I only give 2 stars to this wonderfully crafted game. Well to begin with, I loved Zelda a Link to the past, for the SNES. In fact in my opinion it was the greatest game ever made. I remember how I couldn't wait to get the SNES just for this game and I loved every minute I played of it. The graphics were great and the plot was captivating. Then the N64 came out and I was less than thrilled about this system. First game I saw was Mario "64". A three dimensional mario running in first person perspective. I played this game and I just couldn't get into it. There was something lacking about its gameplay. It just wasnt fun. This game was followed by a whole host of other 3d games. And then came Link Ocarina of time. My brother immediately got this game and began playing it. I watched this game and then I tried playing it too. There was something about this game that i didnt like. It just didn't appeal to me. It felt and looked dark and even ominous. I missed the small cartoonish link of the older game as I watched this fully figured polygon rendered person staring at me. This game almost gave me chills to play. Why make a zelda game so real? Why take away all the innocent fun and bright colors? The first time this realistic Link got injured in battle, I really did get chills. This game was just too real to be fun. Now I know i'm no where's near the experienced gamer as most of the others who rated this game. I expect many of ya'll to disagree with my viewpoints. But seriously, why even go outside if you can play a video game that so eerily simulates life? Once classic games entered the 3d arena thats when I felt they drew the line. I mean come on, Mario 64, Sonic R, Castlevania 64, and now Link 64. Whats next Zelda VR?? Im sure some of the zombie-like gamers would love to see a virtual reality Zelda. Is is me, or is this not just a tad absurd? Many gamers are almost disgusted that the genius Miyamota is going towards a more traditional cartoonized anime look in the next zelda game (zelda 128) I personally agree with this move and I hope its successful. Maybe this will reinvigorate my love for the zelda genre. But seriously, the same type of people that like realism in games are the ones that play these games 50 hours a session and then brag about how they beat them 4 or 5 times. I mean wow, after all that time invested what have you accomplished?? You beat a friggin video game, big friggin deal! Go out and get a life! my god.. Seriously wake up people! What kind of zombie generation are these games breeding? How much realism is too much realism?? Or do you not believe there is such a thing. Oh and the game Men of honor that so many people worship is the epitamy of it all. A game that realistically attempts to recapture the horror of D-Day. A brutal battle in which several thousand men died for our freedom. Now is on a god damn video game! Entertainment for a bunch of bored college guys on a friday night. I wanna throw up. Well sorry that I had to use Link Ocarina as my guinea pig for ranting against this 3d video game generation, but I figured its the one that you mindless fools have spent the most time on. Please go outside and do something. Invest your hours of time in something other than beating a video game for the 5th time. Learn how to play an instrument, learn karate, do something! I mean seriously, telling a girl that you can beat zelda in 30 hours instead of 50 is not hardly going to impress her!
"Ocarina of Time" was a Waste of Time

Wow...after three years of having "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" game on my computer with a Nintendo 64 emulator, I finally got around to beating it. Even with the occasional help of walk-throughs in some places, this was the longest, most challenging, complex game I've ever played. It also was the most detailed, dramatic, and absorbing adventure, and looked great with the clear 1024 X 768 fullscreen resolution of a computer monitor.
But nonetheless, the original "Legend of Zelda," "The Adventure of Link," and "A Link to the Past" from NES and Super NES were still better.
All of the great drama, the awesome battle scenes, and realistic feel of "Ocarina of Time" could not make up for its excessive length, its overly-complicated mazes, and the sad ending as the big prize afterward. The fun factor was reduced, and at times, the game seemed to resemble work more than play. This was especially true during the second part of the adventure, as it dragged on and on. Often times I would quit playing for six months or more -- just to take a break. And finally when this gargantuan undertaking of a project was completed, Ganon was still alive, neither Link nor Zelda possessed the full Triforce, and they didn't get to fall in love as adults. What a complete waste of frustration and energy. This "Ocarina of Time" game should be renamed "The Waste of Time."
And the unfortunate thing is that it could've been the greatest game ever. If it had shorter, simpler mazes containing *more* fast-action fight scenes, if it had fewer required items to obtain in the overworld, and if the game featured an ending that was happy, fulfilling, and rewarding, my negative opinion of "Ocarina of Time" would be completely reversed.
But it is too late. My trust in the guys at Nintendo to release good "Legend of Zelda" games has been ruined. How can I be certain that I'm not setting myself up for another giant disappointment by embarking on another "Zelda" adventure?
In conclusion, my recommendation for everyone is to stick with the original three "Zelda" games. Beat them again every once in a while, and have fun doing it! Stay away from "Ocarina of Time." You will be saddened and let down.
