A 3-D game with the challenge of the old 2-D games

This game is the perfect balance of fun, excitement, frustration, and skill. Many games similar to this (Banjo-Kazooi) don't have the same type of challenge as far as the actual execution of the game. Some of the mini-games will get you frustrated beyond belief. This game also includes excellent graphics (the best yet,) and ropes you in until it's 3:30 in the morning and you realize your eyes are no longer able to focus on any objects except your TV. Take my advice, add this to your collection now!

My nintendo 64 is hooked up in the living room, so when i'm playing nobody can watch tv. I cant stop playing this game. It is just too addictive. When I play Donkey Kong 64 I feel like i'm on vacation from life. It puts you in a different state of mind. For all the people who say the game looks a lot like Banjo and Kazzoie.... Banjo is from Diddy Kong racing, so he is like one of those charachters from the same world. It may be frustrating at times, but thank goodness on the nintendo website they show you how to get all of the golden bananas. The charachters are adorable, and when you defeat a charachter it reappers, so nobody in the game dies. A very cool, cute, game. It will take months to beat it, so its worth the price tag.Plus the graphics are beautiful. Buy it while you can still get with the yellow pack.

DONKEY KONG THE DETECTIVE

RARE has taken the masterpiece that was Donkey Kong Country and turned it into another exploration game. The whole point of the game is to go around looking for items (since when did Donkey Kong become a detective?)that unlock the next levels much like Banjo-Kazooie and Mario64, except that Mario64 got to the point faster. The biggest difference that I noticed from old DK games was that this game has no action like the other 3 DK Country games. What happened to the old Donkey Kong! I like the old game where you have to get yourself across the level and fight enemies without looking for meaningless items. Another thing I noticed is that RARE has turned this into a much more kiddy game than the other DK games. The graphics are also extremely blocky, the music is decent and sometimes catchy and the textures are good but not as good as Zelda64. This is a good game nonetheless but it is a BIG disappointment for those who are expecting a similar experience to the old Donkey Kong games. If you're looking for a good game get yourself Zelda64(the only reason I bought an N64).

Afetr finishing DK64, my feeling was disappointment. The game allows a player to control five Kongs through a series of levels, that are individually thematic, similar to the DK adventures of the SNES. The game is strong in respect to the graphics and play control. The levels are enormous and the addition of older 2-D games from the '80s, adds a nice flavor to the modernity of DK64. But the adventure becomes tedious, as each Kong has to separately retrieve specific bananas, coins, and a few other items. Finding these items is what the player does throughout 90% of the game. However, the challenge of finding everything is relatively easy, which is why the exploration seems more tiresome than intriguing. If you're a player who likes the music, DK64 starts off very well in that category, including a remastered track from DK-Country(SNES). As the game progresses, the quality of the sound track declines, undermining the unachieved expectation of the game. The story that evolves with the game is enjoyable and funny. Watching the kremlings interact is humorous. DK64 is filled characteristics that make the game quite good and quite poor. Though critical of this game, I still recomend getting DK64 because playing it allows the expansion pack to demonstrate its amazing qualities. To enhance the play of the game, try playing it with other people, where each player progresses through the adventure at the same rate. Maybe some competition outside of the game would enhance the excitement that is needed inside of the game.

A true N64 gamer's perpective.

Two words. Players Guide. In DK64 there is a "toll collecter" who stands at the entrance of every world and collects the golden bananas you get by winning races, defeating minor bosses, and accomplishing other missions. So you'll need to find just about every banana and, trust me, it's hard. Not impossible, just hard.

It is the best game of its type. It's awesome. It has a gun. One of my favorite characters can fly and shoot machine gun in all directions. You can fight two players (up to four) with multiple controls at the same time. Very close to Banjo Kazooie, but advantages in multiplayer option and able to select differing characters.

This isn't a best seller for nothing

This is a great game with great graphics. You might want to order the players guide with this game because it is so huge. Don't worry, the expanision pak comes with the game.

Not bad at all

This game is excellent. Other than some pretty poor camera angles, the graphics are sublime (if you go underwater, you can actually see the little fish swimming around in schools). This game is great because it is long- there is alot to do in it- but yet it can get really difficult and frustrating (especially with timed bananas). One more thing, I wish that there was more to the game than just collecting bananas. Overall this game is definately worth buying and sure to keep you busy for a while!
