I have many games in my house but all for computer and Playstation. I only have a few for Nintendo 64 and DK64 is my favorite. This is a game when you play it, it makes you keep your tounge sticking out of the side of your mouth. It's a challenging game that can get on your nerves if you don't get something on the 4th try. But when that happened to me I tried agian, wanting to see what would lay ahead. I really enjoy this game even though I have never played any other DK games. Maybe it's really crappy compared to the others, but I have nothing to loose...

This game is very fun, bringing back memories of DKC on the SNES. Despite its fun it never quite captures the magic of DKC, but is still one of the best games on the N64. It's very long though, so be prepared for hours of fun and exploring.
the greatest adventure game yet

Donkey Kong has to be one of the best games on the N64, right up there with Zelda and Goldeneye. Rare did almost everything right in this game, from the massive, beautifully rendered worlds to the comical, yet challenging, boss characters.
The first aspect of this game are the graphics: AWESOME! This game really makes use of the included expansion pak to create incredible lighting effects and smooth rounded textures: no more sharp polygonal edges or close fog like in Goldeney, or, to a lesser degree, Zelda. Not only do the huge worlds have the best graphics of any N64 game to date, but the enemies and bosses all have personality, a concept hard to express with flat, 2D textures or sharp polygons.
The graphics are great, the music and sound bits are perfectly suited to the game areas, but the real gem of this game is the gameplay itself: you will be totally immersed in this game, just like the experience you have when you play Zelda 64. There is tons of stuff to do in each level: collect items, upgrade your moves and "shooters", and explore. Scattered liberally throughout the levels, and the massive overworld, are Bonus Barrels, which contain tons of different types of minigames, easy to learn and hard to master. Not only that, but there are mindbending puzzles to solve, and, in most levels, there is some sort of race: whether in a minecart, slotcar, or on a slide, you have to beat another character and collect a certain amount of coins. There are tons of multiplayer modes and options, plus Mystery Modes complete with stuff like minigame arenas and, check this, THE ORIGINAL DK GAME AND JETPAC GAME! Overall, the amount of gameplay is staggering.
This game is incredible, but it's not perfect. The camera movement is a bit too slow, and there is so much stuff to do and collect that it can sometimes be overwhelming (thats why you might want to buy the official strategy guide, but only use it when you get stuck!). Also, going through each world 5 times (once with each Kong) is sometimes tedious, even though it's different everytime you go through it. These little flaws don't prevent me from giving this game 5 stars, however. It has anything an action, adventure, or exploration fan could want, and more. :)

My 9 year old son got this game for x-mas he loves it says it's better than 007. My husband also enjoys it. It is a challenging one player game and also a fun multiplayer game. A cool game for the whole family and the monkeys and apes are cute.
What's with the bad reviews?

I just don't see why everyone is all upset. I loved the game! The extra characters give more of a choice than just DK and Diddy, therefore the levels are longer. It has more lasting gameplay. How would you like the game if you only had to get 10 bananas in each level? It'd take like, a week to beat! Thats no fun! Everyone loved Mario 64, and guess what the object of that game was? To get the next star! The only difference between the two games is DK has better graphics and more players to choose from. The multi-player is great. Granted it still gets the poo beat out of it by Goldeneye, but its a good game. If you buy an adventure game this is what you can expect people. If you don't like games where all you do is get the next thing and explore through beautifully rendered levels, don't buy it! And in response to an earlier review: how could you possibly like that little climb up the ramps while DK throws barrels at you game more than this? Common sense, people.
They didn't let us down!

Donkey Kong 64 has come a long way from the arcade and Super Nintendo versions. Of course the you've still got da' big monkey with the tie runnin' around, but now it's got a new twist. In Donkey Kong 64 you have the choice of being five different Monkeys=Donkey, Diddy, Lanky, Tiny, and Chunky! The levels are huge, and complex: filled with puzzles and games, bonus barrels and, of course, those precious Golden Bananas (201 to be exact)
DK 64 is alot of fun, and I think that any DK fan should play it at least once. It was worth the three year wait. Did I mention the Multiplayer Mode, Banana Fairies...AND that it's in Dolby Surround?

I waited and waited, and I waited some more. It came out, I bought it, played it and ..... got dissapointed. It is very similar to Banjo Kazooie, little difference, I cant believe people liked this game so much! The gameplay is weak, Lanky is annoying, and most of it is plain pointless. All in all, it is an OK game, not one I recommend buying at such a price, give me Zelda any day!
Deserves more Credit!

Many reviewers have said that it is disappointing, and that it is a Mario clone. Well, I must say, it isn't.
People had dreams that it would be a revolutionary game for N64. Well, it isn't. But it has the best graphics I have ever seen on the system, and it is extremely addictive. Sites are giving it 8 out of ten, or less. I totally disagree. If anyone out there is having doubts about getting DK64, put them aside, and get this game!

Donkey Kong 64 has probably the best graphics of any N64 game so far. But there are other things that makes this game a must have, such as the Jet Force Gemini and Banjo-Kazooie type of game (platform). Although I love this game, there are some draw backs like the sometimes annoying music. One reason I like it is the extreme difficulty due to the vast amount of fun mini games and the gigantic bosses. One more thing, this game takes (on average) 55-60 hours to beat so it will definitly last a long time.
