BORING

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 3 / 5

I love platformers of all kinds, but this game is horrible! The game is extremely boring to start with but it gets even worse when you have to do the same thing FIVE TIMES OVER! Worst of all it's confusing as to what is even happening and annoying trying to do anything once you know. About the only thing good is the graphics. Shame they're wasted on a horrible game. This ruined the DK series. Get Banjo-Kazooie or Tooie.

Good, but camera views are really annoying!

My freind bought me this game and I really love it,there is just one thing that Nintendo or Rare could have done a better job on.....THE CAMERA ANGLES! I have to constantly be toggling with the views to get it right. It is extremely annoying. But overall this is a good game if you like to figure out puzzles and junk,I wouldn't suggest buying the book though cuz that would ruin the fun of figguring out all the puzzles for yourself! It's a good game.

Not bad for a kiddie game. Good graphics. Very challenging. I only bought it because the expansion pack was included and I got it for 35 from etoys.

Doesnt Live up to the hype

This game had awesome graphics, but imagine this for those of you who havent played it. Its Mario 64 but in Mario you can find the levels. In Donkey you cant. It also takes about 7 or 8 minutes to watch theintro. I can not rate this game high at all.

What happened here?

I admit it. I was one of the people to absolutely obsess about this game before it came out. I bought every magazine with new info on this game. Then when I recieved it at Christmas, I was disappointed. Do you like scavenger hunts? Do you like playing a level 5 times? If "Yes", by all means buy it! But if you are looking for something with a little more meat, buy Perfect Dark. If that's too mature for you, I suggest Banjo- Tooie. All I'm asking you to do is to think hard before buying this. This is not anywhere as good as SNES Donkey Kong Country.

The game rocks

I was a little dissapointed that there wasn't more to the mine cart portion of the game, but then I thought to myself, "This is a new game. It isn't a game from SNES that someone made 3D." That's when I really started to enjoy it. The graphics are absolutely amazing thanks to the included expansion pak. What I enjoyed most, however, was just running around and exploring. What Rare botched in Jet Force Gemini, they righted with DK64. The use of multiple characters is great as it expands the game five-fold. The multiplayer could have been better, but as long as it isn't as bad as JFG's, I'm reletively content. It's obvious that Rare took good parts of games and put them in DK64. The controls and moves are suspiciously reminiscent of Mario, but one isn't fully able to establish that until you have all the moves, something they adapted well from Banjo-Kazooie. Overall, it's a great game with lots of depth and replay value.

Hire before you buy

I was suspect about parting with the cash on this one, and boy, was I glad I hired it out before I bought it. This game is boring beyond belief. I hired it out and played it nearly all day, one Saturday, looking for reasons to buy, and sadly they were lacking. The game is really slow, and the goals seem very unfocused. Playing the same levels over and over with no real challenge isn't any fun either. I don't think the game is hard, just lengthy (which isn't good when it is boring). Half an hour to achieve one boring goal, get rewarded with nothing, but a key/banana or some other item, which unlocks another area. Repeat. This is not a fun game. This is not a pleasure to play, like Zelda or Mario 64.

I'm sure some people will really love this game, but not me. Hire before you buy.

i got this game on christmas and i thought is wuz a rip-off for it's price..come on,70 bucks..well...i got dreamcast too..but i played this after dreamcast..and i will tell u with the srategey guide..this game is so much fun cause it has all the things that makes u wunna play a long, long adventure game..it has the levels which make u play them with 5 kongs...and u must get all 201 gold banana's.20 banana fairies..and 10 crowns...now that's alot of work to du..and i have to say the fact that they put the classic DK and jetpac in is alot o fun to rack up points and playing until u don't know how to play the games we play today..it is that addicting..and one last thing..the ending is well worth it if u got all 201 banana's...just go buy it if u like these kinda games..it won't dissapoint.

Great game, could be better

I have to say when I purchased donkey kong 64 I had higher expectations about the game. Dont get me wrong it was a nice piece of software with excellent graphics, huge worlds (bigger than Banjoo kazooie),cool characters, and a fun 2-4 player battle round,. This game is a winner for sure but in my oppinion it just wasnt as enjoyable as I had hoped. The story itself is a bit weak, not bad but could be better, and for being a donkey kong game the levels seemed somewhat lacking, the kremlings for one thing there werent enough of them and when there where some it seemedlike the same 5 or 6, all the characters where well animated but there just wasn't enough of them or enough varity (as in the first DK for Super NES.)this was my biggest gripe about the game. Another aspect of the game that bugged me was the lack of objects to interact with there were hardly any barrels and not a whole lot of other stuff to smash, pickup and or throw. Again dont get me wrong I like this game a lot it has great graphics as I said before, and tons of stuff to collect the worlds are huge the bosses a hulking and just about every aspect of the game is well animated has a fluint frame rate and is sparkling with the stunning expansion pak(included) enhanced graphics(have I mentioned the great graphics :-). Also the characters can buy various items and talents from other kongs, Cranky, Kandy, and Funky are on each level and can outfit the kongs with the variouse items they will need to complete there adventure. I could go on forever about every single detail but I wont now. As a whole this game is a good one with the best graphics you will find on the nintendo 64, cool characters, and lots of items and talents to find buy and learn along the way. If you liked the first 3 Dks for the Super NES this game may let down for some (espescially in the as far as challenge goes) I dont think it is a game you would regret buying but if you have reservations about getting it i suggest you rent it first.

fun for the half hour i played

I borrowed this game from a friend. I played for half an hour then got bored. I'm glad I didn't pay money for it. It's pretty much just Banjo-Kazooie(which I also didn't like). I was upset, especially when I got to the first door requiring gold bananas. Why couldn't they have just put out another Banjo-Kazooie game and make an ORIGINAL Donkey Kong game for the N64.

Banjo-Kazooie was fun, until the difficulty spiked out of nowhere. Also, the idea of making a cartoonish adventure somewhat nonlinear is poorly executed in it.

I didn't play far enough to see if Donkey Kong corrected any of this, but it looks like it didn't. It just changed the setting from running around inside of a mountain to running around inside of islands. Great.

If you liked Banjo-Kazooie, I'm sure you'll love this. If not, definitely skip Donkey Kong.
