Not that great

First of all, let me say this game is good. So why do I only see 2 stars, you say? To begin, saving and loading times are insane. While if you're not playing on Glide, forget this game. You'll never run it and have fun. Also, the enemy is so stinkin' stupid. You can crawl in front of them, and they'll say something like,"I think I heard something. As long as you move behind something in a second or two, he'll think it was nothing and move along. You were right in front of him, for crying out loud! I don't want to give it away, but the storyline is great. That's about the only good thing this game has to offer. Voice acting is hideous. JC Denton, which is you, is just a monotone scratchy voice act. It stinks! So much cool stuff is being thrown at you and the voices that do it are so boring they're going to sound like your boss or teacher, no lies. Bottom Line: Get this if you like RPGs or FPS but don't mind slowdowns.

A good mix.

This has alot going for it. I like it's RPG crossed with FPS (I like both genres) and such. The story isn't the best but it's fine. The voice acting is less than steller as well. But those bad parts are outweighed majorly by the good. The ability to set yourself up so that you're good with demolitions, pistol, computers, etc. is excelent! Only think I want to see is multiplayer. This would be so much fun playing against other people! Plus a charactor selection screen, like D2. That way you could play with someone from Easy to realistic mode (and that someone ends up with masters in everything but what the hey) That's all I'd like to see. (Fires up a C++ compiler)

The first thing you should realize with this game is that it is NOT strictly a first person shooter.. it may look like one but please do not let that confuse you as to what this game ends up aspiring to. It is as far as I am concerned at the moment the finest version of a story driven first person game on the market, perhaps in general. Like a good movie this game will keep you on the edge of your seat right up to the excellent climactic finale(Finales?). In addition to this it looks beautiful especially if you have the hardware to run it. My only reservations throughout the entire game were that in some cases the AI could be a little dim witted... example of this are few and far between though and by no means hold up the flow of the game. I heartily recommend it to any and all who prefer the entertainment of a plot that actually manages to make you feel like you are part of the action to the mindless massacre games currently flooding the market.

WARNING :Don't play unless you've got the next few days off!

Deus Ex is an intricately detailed game that drops you into the near future, populated by robot sentry mechs, cyber-enhanced agents, and genetically-modified beasts. Futuristic visions of New York and Hong Kong are awe-inspiring and bring to mind movies like Akira and Bladerunner. The action involves interacting with the denizens of these living environments as well as sneaking in the shadows bypassing security consoles and data terminals. The most enjoyable feature of this game is the total freedom you have in accomplishing your missions. If you're trigger happy you can try to go in guns blazing. If you're a ninja-type you can silently take down guards and security systems. You also choose your ever growing list of skills and abilities as you pick up enhancements or mods along the way. All in all, if you like an intriguing story with equally intriguing gameplay, Deus Ex will satisfy all your needs.

Excellent game!

Deus Ex is the best game of is genre(RPG/Adventure/Action) due to its non-linear and fabulous story, the futuristic-chaotic atmosphere that we feel and see, and the best of RPG in is pure state. Deus Ex is in the fund a true RPG, because we can carry out varied actions and several roles, for example I want to pass a runner with a surveillance camera and i have a good level in the Shooter caracteristics, I just take my rifle and cut into to pieces the camera, but if in the other hand i am good in the caracteristics of Hacker i can very well return to a terminal that was behind and deadactivate the system of the surveillances cameras, this way i can pass in the runner without calling the enemy's attention; this is one of the lot of possibilities of Deus Ex, each action that I make, alter's the world that surrounds me completely, this is one of the best caracteristics of the game together with the graphics a lá Vampire: The Masquerade, the incredible sonor ambient and the very well conceived chtas wiht the NPC that make us understand in the best way the world where we met. Deus Ex is really one of those games that glues us to the computer screen, making us forget that we have to eat, to sleep, go work, etc, and only remenber our hero, the equipement that we will buy next, what we will make next, etc. If you like RPG's Deus Ex is a MUST HAVE AT ALL COST!

With the release of the highly anticipated sequel to the mega-popular Diablo, Diablo 2 and the release of much talked about Icewind Dale, along with mainstays like Legend of Kunark, you start to think maybe the the action/adventure game market is a little bloated. Deus Ex has not gotten a lot of hype and is so deserving of it. This is a great game for those of you that like action/adventure games and should certainly be vying for the top spot on the software charts, with the likes of the afformentioned Diablo 2 and Icewind Dale, as well as The Sims and Who Wants To Be a Millionaire Second Edition, but it's not. Pity, considering this game is as good, if not better than the rest of the pack. Get this game, and be pleasantly surprised. Hey, maybe Deus Ex 2 will get the attention a game like this deserves. Here's hoping.

This game makes "Daikatana" forgivable.

Yep, it's that good. The folks at Ion Storm have showed us that they can make a good game (albeit with the help of Warren Spector). This game is great, encompassing, and an all-around life destroyer. I found myself playing well into the night, unraveling the mysteries and enhancing my character's abilities. The "unrealistic plot" which everyone complains about is getting bad press. Video games are supposed to have improbable plots. And besides, improbability makes the plots interesting and draws you into the game. Ok, a brief synopsis: (I haven't finished the game yet, so I can't tell you much. No spoilers will be given so read on) You are JC Denton, a bionically enhanced government agent working for UNATCO, an anti-terrorist branch of the US government. A deadly virus has swept the world and the state of the planet has fallen to shambles. Terrorists and criminal orginizations operate openly without fear, and governments battle like warring urban gangs. The only hope for protection is an antidote codenamed "Ambrosia" (The nectar of the gods). This stuff is in very high demand, so naturally it is only available to a select few. You fortunately have been vaccinated upon birth, so you don't have to worry about the nasty germs. Your brother Paul is a veteran in the agency, but soon he begins to act very strangely and distrustful. Conspiracies are revealed, intentions brought into light, and mysteries are unraveled. Throw in locations in Hong Kong, New York, and Paris and you've got a nice game environment. The game works by using a skill points system, not unlike the system used in Diablo and other RPG's. After exploring certain areas or completing goals you are rewarded with skill points that you use to enhance your ability in several fields. THese include sniping, computers, electronics, lockpicking, swimming, medicine, and weaponry. The real treat though, is the Nano-augmentation canisters. Throughout the game you'll encouter little blue vials which, through a medbot, can enhance parts of your body with cybernetic implants. This is where the free form of the game really shines. If you're a sniper, use the canister on your eyes and see farther, or even in the dark. If you are a stealthy character, enhance your legs to run faster and softer, or make them have more jumping power enabling you to scale tall fences. It's entirely up to you. All in all, Deus Ex is a great game, enjoyable from start to finish, with excellent voice acting, great locations, and most of all, IT'S FUN! Happy gaming.

Outstanding game play

If you like the find and shoot type game this is for you. Takes alot of power to run but is outstanding. It is like the Doom/Quake series however without monsters. It is built on conspiracy theories with the US goverment I.E. FEMA, Rowell and several others. The games outcome can change based on various paths you take during play. It has some minor low points such as slow loading and saving but well worth the wait. In fact it gives you time to recoup before going at it again...
