This game comes complete with 1) a really stupid background story, and 2) gameplay that equals "run around and kill things while waiting for the game to feed you another clue". The attempt at future noir is half-baked, the character models are drab, and the in-game cutscenes are horrible and embarrassing. Typical computer world populated by about 30 people.

The graphics in this game are great. It could have used a lot more work though.
Here's what I hated about it (the CONs are what you really need to know, right?)
1.)The enemy AI.... I walked in front of some guard and he shot at me. I ran inside an office and hid on the other side of a desk. "Hmmm...must have been a rat?"
Go figure.
2.)You and your brother Paul have that Euro trash style outfit with a terrible mono-tone voice. I thought I was in chemistry class all over again.
3.)The guns are a joke. No shooting through walls or doors. The pistol is the most powerful and easy to use. So the SMGs and the sniper rifle ... and make learning other weapons a waste.
4.)The AUGs should be automatic. You can't think to manually power them on and off at the right time while swimming or in gun fights.
5.)It's a futuristic ripoff of the X-Files.
It would've been great if those above were fixed in a part 2 or something. If they'd add a FEAR factor in the game it would be even better. Once you're pumped up like the terminator, I don't see some rent-a-cop sticking around to fight you.
A very bad game.

The game has the worst graphics ever, and in my opinion, Super Mario on Super Nintendo is better then this game! Please take my advice, please don't waste your money on this game. I can see that Eidos Interactive didn't spend much time on thinking what other gamers want, a game with good graphics, good gameplay, realistic gameplay and being able to actually kill an enemy.
Nice try, but horrible job.

I was really excited when I first heard about it. But once I got it, that all changed. The control is difficult, the graphics are outdated, and the voices and music are horrible. Do yourself a favor and buy Unreal Tournament instead.
Great Game, just a flaw or two

First off, this is an excellent game. Make no mistake, this action/RPG is the best one out there, ranking up by System Shock and others. You get upgrades, experience points to work out skills. It may seem tricky at first, but once you get used to it, it's awesome. The voices are great, and they lip-sync in for the ultimate realism. The plot is very well done, but there seems to be a problem with the visuals. See, if you don't have the 3D card the game works best on, you'll majorly have to tone down graphics like I did. Make no mistake, if you have a Voodoo, you're alright, but anything else, like for me a NVidia Riva 128, you need to turn detail down. Of course, this doesn't detract from the game, and after all, if you're only after the game for good graphics, you need to rethink your purchases. If you like sci-fi, conspiracies, System Shock or Thief, this is an imperative purchase.
Great game but...

If you are a fan of action/RPG type games, this is a must buy. The gameplay rocks, great storyline, nerve-racking sounds effects, the list goes on... BUT, buefore you go out and buy it, there are a few things you have to know. The game is written with the Unreal engine, meaning the graphics are not quite up to date with other 1st person shooters (ie. Unreal Tourney, Q3, even Rogue Spear's are better). Also this game has MASSIVE system requirements. Even on my Pentium 3 700, it doesn't run that well. (I do have an ATI Rage 128 Pro, which could be the problem) If you aren't running it in GLide, run it in OpenGL, because Direct3D looks like ass. Anyway, if you have been wating for the game for months (like me), its been a worthwhile wait, but if you've been meaning to upgrade your computer, you should do it BEFORE buying this game.

I had a chance to get this game as a bootleg or a original, but this game is completely worth the original. I want to pay the creators to keep making games such as this. By far, this is one of the most quality games I've played. I read some reviewer complain about the graphics!! That is absurd! The graphics are not State-of-the-art, but they are still greater than many current games! I loved each and every aspect of the game. The playability could be improved so as to not be so confusing at first, but once you are comfortable with the keyboard, it is really fun. The game has a script that's better than many hollywood movies. The outcomes are variable!! Each decision could be vital to your performance. Overall, I would give this game "9.7 out of 10" The only thing I could complain about is the SOUND!! Oh, it is so repetitive and DARK!! By dark, I mean it puts a sort of irrational fear into you. The sound should be more uplifting and cheerful, but not too much or else it would sound cheesy. As far as bugs go, thee were a few minor glitches, but they were bearable. GO BUY IT!! YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID!!
One of the Greats

I bought Deus Ex and played through fully, and loved every minute of it. This is the best game I have played so far. Every thing about it is great. The only thing I disliked a little was the lack of ammo, but this game is still the best. The story line is the best ive heard in a game. Its not aliens take over the world, you job is kill them. The story is very enticing and the game revolves around it. The enemies as said by the amazon reviewer are stupid, not so! There not einstiens but they are smart. You cant walk right infront of one stand two inches pull out a gun and shoot him because you will die. You cant run up behind him 2 inches away and pull out a gun because he will hear you coming. You must sneak up behind him and kill him. Then you need to hide his body so no other enemies can see him and trigger and alarm. Also you can mold your character to fit what you want. He can be good with melee weapons or he can good with rifles and other firearms. There are many different ways to "aug" your character. As I said before you cant beat this game. Max payne is not better then this game.
COOL!

COOL! The only bad thing I have to say, is the sound and the minor bugs.the sound isnt so awful that it makes you hate it, its just a little stupid when they talk. the fx are COOL too. and the bugs, well i dont know if this is just my computer but every once in a while i get stuck croutching and cant get up. but i save often so that isnt a problem. also sometimes the keys dont work so i have to go into settings and change the key for that control. it only does that for the inventory screen thing. But it doesnt take long and i dont mind considering how COOL the game is. Its soo awsome how you can choose, whether you want to sneek up on someone and kill them from behind, go for the all out assault, avoid them completely, snipe them with a gun with a scope, blow them up ect ect. I play alot of games and this is my favorite, over half life even! some of you may like half life the same, or better, but i... i dunno i guess i like the sneaking up thing, and how you can take LOTS AND LOTS of approaches to things. in half life you have to do one thing. you cant take another rout....

I have played the demo, and just from that, this is a strong canidate for game of the year. It has a strong role playing element, while keeping the adventure and action elements there. None of these conflict or overpower each other, making this game appealing to a large group of people.
