You can SAVE your progress at ANY time!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 4

I never got in to the first two Splinter Cell games, so you don't have to be a veteran of the series to enjoy this third installment. I'll start with my 2 favorite things about this game. In Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, you can pause the game at ANY moment while playing and save your progress EXACTLY where you're standing. When you load your game from a saved file, you start exactly at the spot where you saved, NOT way back at the beginning of the level, NOT at some prior checkpoint, but right where you were at that moment you saved your game. When you know you're about to walk into a tricky situation, take a moment to save, then proceeed. If you botch the job, re-load your saved game and try again from the exact point you saved at without having to restart the whole level all over again. I LOVE THIS! EVERY game should have this "instant save anytime" feature! The other great thing about this game that EVERY game should have is 360-degree camera control: you use the controller's right thumbstick to move the camera anywhere you want to get the view you need of your environment. Snapshot saving and total camera control make SUCH a BIG difference in eliminating the frustration that comes with so many other games.

This is a game about espionage set in the fictitious near future. You play a stealthy field operative for a top secret arm of the U. S. government, running covert operations that the government cannot legally acknowledge. Each mission consists of a set of objectives like "find out who is providing arms to these rebel guerillas" or "hack these systems and plant some decoy files." You gather information by observing the environment, eavesdropping on conversations, interrogating people, searching file cabinets, and accessing computer terminals. You spend most of your time sticking to the shadows to stay out-of-sight and keeping silent to avoid detection.

You must complete your primary objectives to progress to the next mission. You are scored a success percentage at the end of every mission, but score doesn't count for anything except personal satisfaction. You achieve high scores by not alerting anyone to your presence and not killing anyone, rendering enemies unconscious in a variety of ways (except when your objective is to eliminate a particular target). When you see people in your path, you can either find a way to sneak around them or you can sneak up and grab them from behind to interrogate them, then choke them unconscious to remove them as threats (be sure to hide the bodies so others don't notice your handiwork). Stealth and low body-counts are encouraged, but you can still progress through the game if you don't score highly on your stealth tactics. You can tear through the game with guns blazing killing everyone if you want (except for the missions where your objective is to NOT kill anyone). But I get a kick out of sneaking aboard an ocean freighter, creeping unnoticed through over 30 armed guards, planting tracking devices on crates of illegal weapons, and escaping without anyone having a clue that I was ever there.

This is definitely NOT a fast-paced action game. It's methodical and quiet, requiring patience and a little planning. It doesn't require lightning-fast reflexes. It's not insanely difficult, but it's a good challenge. The graphics and sound are very good (but the music is funky). The controls are easy to get the hang of. You can access an in-game map of your terrain from the pause menu (another feature that EVERY game should have), which helps to keep on track and avoid getting lost. The game has somewhat of a realistic feel to it, so don't count on arcade-like fantasy stuff like being able to double-jump 3 stories into the air or pick up power-ups that make you invincible for a short time. The story is engaging, and you're equipped with some pretty cool spy gadgets. This is a very well-put-together game. It feels a bit like watching a "Mission Impossible" type of spy movie.

best splinter cell game yet

This is seriously the best splinter cell game Ubisoft has produced. The graphics were improved, the sound was better, and the gameplay totally owned the other previous games. Single Player is quite enjoyable and I am always replaying select levels just because how incerdibley fun they are. Co-op is like wise very well done and requires a large amount of teamwork. I haven't had the opportunity to play in hostile multiplayer but I heard it's awesome.
The best addition to the game has got to be the knife. Quiet, deadly, kill-in-an-instant type weapon that you just press right trigger to use on enemies. It's very fun to beat the game and only kill with the knife (and very challenging). The second best addition is the inverted hang/neck twist. when you're on a pipe and an enemy is below you, press right trigger and Sam will hang by his legs, grab the guy by the head and twist. Crunch, his neck is broken. Thirdly is the interchangable SC-20k. In later missions, Sam's gun can have the 5.56mm standard rifle and a launcher, .12 gauge shotgun, or 20mm sniper rifle. lightly tap the white button to change the modes. Lastly are the blue-tooth binoculars. click the right thumbstick down and you get binocs with a square reticle in the center. aim the square over a computer and you can hack some of them right there, without having to go to the computer yourself. Very cool.
this is my favorite game on my Xbox. I highly recommend this. Rated M mainly for swearing, but it's not anywhere near what you hear at school. There's also violence, but it's mainly bodies being thrown across the room by shotgun or explosive. The goriest part that I recall is when some guy gets killed by a laser trip mine and his body is on fire for a few seconds.

A Preview of a great game coming...

Here is a large preview of an amazing game. Getting better everyday, Chaos Theory is shaping up to be the best game of the series yet, and that's saying something (considering the other 2 were jaw dropping). Here's a preview of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, for the Microsoft XBOX...

1)
Tidbits~

*The release of this game has been pushed back to March. But the more time they spend on it, the better it will be...

*2 types of multiplayer have been announced. The first is co-op, where 2 people control 2 spies, going through several missions BUILT exclusively for co-op. There is also the option to do co-op with a friend over XBOX Live...

The other type of multiplayer (and the best hopefully) will be the returning Mercenary vs Spy over XBOX Live. It will, again, be just 2v2. But the ranking system will be revamped, all kinds of new maps will be added. New gadgets, new game modes, etc... All of you who LOVED Pandora Tommorow's multiplayer will be delighted to hear this. Coming in March, this game is going on LIVE...

*There are 2 divisions of Ubisoft. The Montreal Ubisoft is developing this one, which is good news in my opinion. There is a Shainghai division of Ubisoft, which made Pandora Tomorrow's single player. But the Montreal Team created the multiplayer for Pandora Tommorow (I believe), and also made the single player for the original game (the best single player in my opinion). The Montreal team is making this ENTIRE game, and I think that is better.

*Sam will have many more moves in this one. He has also been equipped with some new weapons, most notably the knife. Chaos Theory will also have a lot more freedom, as you can (once grabbing someone) choose to slit their throat, knock them out, or a number of other things. There are multiple ways to complete levels. Also, in certain situations (for example hanging off of a ledge as a guard passes, u may have the option to climb up as soon as he passes, grab him, and throw him off the ledge. Yes, Sam has gotten more violent ;) your options will be endless. If you are in a hurry and come to a door, you have the option to kick it down (and perhaps to smash the door on a guard in the process, as it is possible). The possibilities are endless...

*There will be a sound meter in Chaos Theory, which will allow you to see how much noise your are making. This goes with your light meter, giving u even more stealth...

*The AI has gotten much smarter. Unlike the previous 2, if they hear a sound and then hide, you don't just "disappear" from their minds. From that moment on, they will check more carefully, perhaps look up, go around corners, etc... Of course with the new options, this may be your advantage. As they turn a corner, pop behind them, and...the choice is yours.

2) Graphics~ The graphics have been totally redesigned from scratch, and let me tell you, from the videos, it looks absolutely JAW DROPPING. This is really pushing the XBOX to it's limits. Sam looks REAL. The engine is amazing, the shadows, effects of the environment, etc... Just amazing....

3) Story~ Well, so far, the stories have been amazing, so expect another deep story, as is the Tom Clancy tradition. Get ready, once again, to be sucked into the Splinter Cell universe... The only information we know, it's 2008..

4) Ubisoft has again hired a musician, this time Armon Tobin, to make yet ANOTHER great soundtrack for the Splinter Cell games. Chaos Theory will, again, have the music to make it a great game.

Well, that's a little preview. This game (as of now) is set to hit shelves in March. Cross your fingers, this just may be the game of the year (of 2005).

Thx!

All Killer-No Filler

Ubisoft Montreal has once again put their collaborative effort into stealth action. The result, a title that pushes innovation and graphical abilities of the XBOX. Splinter Cell chaos Theory once again ups the ante on reallistic stealth action.

Taking its cue from normal mapping titles such as Chronicals of Riddick and Doom 3, Chaos Theory presents some of the BEST art direction in any gaming experience. Real time lighting effects are once again perfectly pulled off, surfaces all have a distinct look and everything has an impressive level of detail. Another feature is the physics engine included in this installment. NPC's now have a hightened sense of reallism instead of an animated look.

Chaos Theory also features an impressive library of sound files. Enemies have relevant lines when they become suspicious and communicate with each other to find you. CT's sound engine adds a new depth to gameplay with "sound masking"
Sound masking allows machinery, as well as ambient background sounds to drown out some of Sam's movement. Much like the photosensitive bar which shows you your cover, you now have a sound bar which shows you how much noise you can make. Although the game is fiercly enjoyable, I've encountered only one bug. There are times when too many sounds are being played at once and the sound engine pauses to play a new sound. If you're sneaking though a room with a radio playing, and a machine humming and you whistle to get the enemy's attention, all the sounds stop-the enemy says something-and the music and humming starts again. Considering how taxing CT is on the system, this is hardly a fault, just noticable.

The Gameplay is perfect. I must have done the first level four times over just to take in what the game has to offer. Enemy AI is vastly improved on and offers a good challenge. Most people who have never played a Splinter Cell game would think sneaking around from shadow to shadow, subdue-or kill-gaurd, lather, rinse, repeat would get boring. Although sneaking around is the best way to get through the game, there are always new situations and the player never gets bored. One complaint from past SC titles was how weak Sam's guns are. "Was" past tense. This time around, the guns have more of a lethal sense and the game supports run and gun-its not impossible, just harder. Echelon agent Sam Fisher is also more of a lethal character this tme around with the inclusion of a knife and usage of environmental hazards. You can now knife a character, throw them over a cliff or ship rail or ledge etc... New improvements on the game include hacking, EMF vision mode and OCP pistol attachment(disrupts lights, computers, radios for a few seconds)

Overall, with new moves, gadgets and an engine makeover, Chaos Theory once again proves itself a heavy weight champ. If you're looking for an anime/X-files inspired goofy stealth game, pass this one up and get a copy of Metal Gear. Gamers who want to immerse in a believable plot, reallistic gameplay and stealth action suspense should pick up Chaos Theory ASAP.

Theres a reason that the Xbox Magazine gave it a 9.9/10!

When it comes to the Tom Clancey games, you cannot go wrong. And this has proved once again with his latest release of "Tom Clancey's Chaos Theory."

Graphics: The graphics in this game are probobly the best out of all the games on Xbox. Everything from the character designs, to the facial expressions, to even the background is amazing. The lighting in the game is also incredible and one to brag about definetely. All in all, the graphics in this game are truely wonderful!

Gameplay: Another great feature of this game is the gameplay aspect. You can basically do whatever you want in the game that you could do in the previous Tom Clancey game, Pandora Tomorrow with many more features as well, which includes hanging off a rope with a knife and slitting their necks. The controls do however take a long time to get used to, so that might be a problem if you are a younger audience and less experienced with the Xbox.

Audio: This is probobly the best aspect of the entire game, the audio. You can hear footsteps from behind you, to the left, right or in front of you depending on which direction the enemy is coming at you from. The voices are amazing and it is so clear that you can hear everything that they are saying. The gunshots sound extremely realistic along with everything else in this masterpiece of a game.

Online: This aspect is good, just like any other multiplayer online game, except the only problem is that you can only have four people playing at one time online. But thats not enough of a problem to give this game less then five stars!

In conclusion, this game is a must have for all Tom Clancey fans! And even if you aren't a fan of his games, then its still worth picking up!

Fisher's Back!

Sam Fisher is back and badder than ever. With an added assault playability now.You have the choice of going stealth, assault,or you can go on Reddings weapon recomondation.Either way there are more Replay Values now with the 3rd instalment of the Splinter series Chaos Theory. The Top Notch CO-OP online play and the Versus play ,very nicely done. The added difficulty level now there's a Expert setting. The top notch graphics. While I do think the solo campaign is too short, only 10 Levels, but its still awesome. The Heart of this game is still Stealth. There are still alarms but only now it wont result in mission cancelled, unless of course they plug you full of lead which they will easily do on the expert difficulty setting. They added improved enemy searching A.I.This game is a definate improvment in enemy A.I. They will search for you with Flares & Flashlights and when Sam whistles they will say things like 'Im not falling for that trap' or 'do you think Im that stupid'.They will also revive there knocked out comrades if they are found. The enemies will also notice lights that have been turned off and they turn them back on and search area. Also if you shoot the lite out they will say things like 'what was that' and then investigate. They will also notice hacked doors or broken locks and become suspicious. They will also notice doors that werent previously open (if you leave them open). They will notice candles that have been blown out by you,and they will re-lite them.Sam has alot of cool New moves ,make sure before you play the first level check out the training video to learn the new moves. The very reason I bought my Xbox was for the First Splinter Cell. And its my fav Xbox series.Chaos Theory is a must own game ,with excellent Online & Versus play and excellent graphics, you really cant go wrong with this game.Sam now has added Knife attacks while hanging from a ceiling pipe and can throw enemies over railings,he can also cut through plastic sheeting to advance his position. There's enemy Tanks now and also a Flying drone type thing(on one level only) that scans the area with a red search beam ,it basicly a flying turret with a helicopter blade. The shadow lighting effect are once again execellent .Sam has better hacking abilities and can hack wirelessly from a distance as long as the computer is booted up.The gun now has a Launcher attachment for gas grenades & explosive grenades and also a shotgun attachment.Im am a little dissapointed that in Stealth choice you dont get the Silent sniper attachment. But you can still zoom 1.5x ,its just not the 3.0 x zoom that the 20mm Assault choice has.The strongest element was being able to hit targets with one head shot in 3.0x zoom with the Silenced Rifle, now you have to get closer than the previous 2 games. But these are very small differences that dont take away how excellent this game is.Splinter Cell Is definatly one of the best all-time console series.

Only other game on this level is Halo 2

This is without a doubt top 3 games ever for xbox and maybe ever made, bar none. The story takes place in 2007 where information warfare is the only way to fight and you begin your story in Peru and will go many places before it's over. There are 10 lushious levels to play, and they all look fantastic. The graphics are the best for any console yet and the audio is fantastic. There are some new moves and gadgets which you can use quite frequently. the best new move probably is the inverted neck snap but the combat knife moves are very cool also. There are some new gadgets like the EMF vision and scanner, also there is of course the combat knife. The addition of co-op is also very fun and the multiplayer is great. Ther is lots of replay because of all the possible ways that you may go. There is also a little foreshadowing going on in the chatter between Lambert and Fisher but I don't want to spoil it. The story is so good you won't want to stop playing because you get sucked in( figures since its a Tom Clancy game).

Graphics- These are the best graphics on a console game ever no doubt about it

Audio and Dialouge- The Audio is almost as good as the graphics and the dialouge is great because it's a Tom Clancy game ( in my opinion is the best game genre besides maybe Halo)

Storyline- One of the best ever in a game the high-tech chatter was studlified alot so that people could understand but a few times I had no idea what was going on

Length and Replay- it's about 10 hours long ( on normal) and there is lots of repley

Overall- 9.75 out of 10 (highest score ever tied with Halo 2)

Finally, a Splinter Cell for me

I'm not a big fan for 1-player games because my brother and I always have friends over. I had played a demo for the orginal Splinter Cell on Gamecube and I loved it. I was in the process of deciding on getting Pandora Tomorrow until I read an article in a magazine that Chaos Theory was going to have a co-op mode(I'm a big fan of co-op). I knew that was the thing for me and decided to skip getting Pandora Tomorrow.

So I rented the game and played it with my brother. The first mission is a training mode which only shows a few of the literally dozens of moves a splinter cell can pull off. The next missions are fun and very intriging. They make you think like a spy. Which route should I take? Where are the enemies located? What is the best and most quiet way to take them out? You have to think about all these before advancing through the level. This game makes you think.

Not only that but the graphics are top-notch too. YOu can see the texture of Sma Fishers clothes which is a scary though because this is an Xbox game.

A key aspect of the game is sound. Especially online when your using a mic to communicate with your partner. If your too loud then the enemies will detect which makes this game even more realistic.

Reading this should make you want to buy this game or at least try it out. Still not convinced? It's only $20!!!

Who needs online play?

First things first, you don't need online play to enjoy a game!! The single player in this game is amazing. Fisher is back and better than ever. Along with new gadgets, Fisher is the best character ever. The plot is that algorithims(?) could possibly cause blackouts, crash the markets, and jack nuclear weapons. Fisher and Third Echolon are sent in to stop a possible World War 3. In the missions, there are many ways to get to your objective, so this adds replay value, and new challanges. A new addition is co op mode. In order to complete the missions (which are different from the single player missions) in co op mode, you need to have a second player. You can then pull off moves like the human ladder, and boost your partner up to higher ledges. Play this mode with fans and players of Splinter Cell. Now, sinceI do not have Xbox Live, I can not rate online play. But, I did not need this to enjoy this game. Multip

Graphics: 10/10
Sound: 10/10
Gameplay: 10/10
Overall: 10/10
Fans of the series will go all out, and definetly pick up this game, for new players, they will find enjoyment in this game, and probably go back and buy Pandora Tommorrow(5/5), and Splinter Cell(5/5).

WOW!!!!!
The best of the trilogy so far. It's so good, I'll give up my vital organs if there's a fourth in the works! Whatever lacks in SC1 and SC2, it's all here baby.

Once again, you're Sam Fisher. An elite agent used for co-op missions. The more you are invisible and the less you kill to complete your mission, the higher your success rating. With respect to SC1 and 2, It's not too different in terms of character mechanics and gameplay, but like I said before there's a few new knacks that's worth a nod.

I like the Save function, where previously you had to complete a level to save it, now you have the quick save function enabled.

I also like the "choose you level of combat gear" option that lets you be a good splinter cell - invisible to all or a raving psycho; kicking ass and taking names.

I love the graphics as always, a little improvement especially on the lighting.

What I don't like is that there's no real cheats. But you know what, I guess that just adds to the value of the game. It's still a shame that Xbox games are higher priced than most other, but I guess you get what you pay for.

What really made me so happy I wore incontinence pad, when I put the game disc in, is the teaser movie trailer. Man if there's a movie in the works based on the game - Look out!

Sound - 5/5
Graphics - 4.5/5 ( The mouth of characters still look fake )
Wishing you were him instead of your fat lazy self - 5/5

Overall - 5/5
