First of all the review by Gamer from Texas got the milk flying out my nose! That review is much more uselful just as comic relief than most readers are crediting it. Gamer from NY does a good job of expressing most of the bad in this game. I will add to those here.

I am about 2/3 through this game and am unsure if I will finish it. I pre ordered this thing months before it was released. Every time they pushed the release date back I got more excited. "They're just making sure that this is the best Star Wars game ever!" I kept assuring myself. I was wrong.

All the junk I read comparing this game favorably with Morrowind led me to believe that this would be a massive game with a vast array of classes, races, allies and paths to victory. You can be either human male or human female. You can be either a soldier, scoundrel or scout. It doesn't matter because you will follow the path of the Jedi either way. Han Solo types need not apply. So much for playing a wookie armorer, droid bounty hunter or any other interesting character that you may have thought up. Also as you train to be a Jedi, you WILL have exactly 9 companions and you WILL have access to certain ones at certain times as the story line sees fit. At times this would get VERY tedious. Not being interested in the force aspect of Star Wars I struggle during the numerous periods that the plot spends beating me over the head with it. Instead of chess you get checkers.

This game has strange mechanical quirks as well. Like the character experience system. As if the designer knew that experience point opportunities would be limited they decided on a group level scheme. At any one time your team consists of your character and up to two others from your group. As your character gains experience so do all your group mates wether they are participating or not. This leads to wild level up parties when you dust off a character that has been warming the bench for the last three hours and they get three or four levels worth of experience dumped on them.

I could go on but I have already spent more time on this than I was planning to. In short, this game is about as open ended as a game of slap jack. As a roll player this game plays more like a TPS at RPG speed. Not even close to being as replay able as I think most people are led to believe. You play it as a good guy, then you might play it as a bad guy. If your still interested then you might play it as a in the middle guy just for the challenge,(the game penalizes fence sitters) then you'll hang it up. When all is said and done we have a good Star Wars game. The setting will keep you coming back for more but that's about it. Three stars.

PC users be careful...

While the reviews for this are generally glowing, on the PC there are some technical issues which make this game a real headache. If you have less than a top of the line system, then don't even bother. If one spends any time on the Bioware forums, they will read hundreds of posts from people who purchased this game and get it to run on system that were top of the line six months ago. It's simply ridiculous.

Several of us have actually had our $200 graphics cards fry after running Kotor for a few weeks. And when I mean several, I'm not talking about just a few people. In my case, it completely fried my graphics card to the extent that games which played superbly on their highest settings just a few weeks ago won't perform at all. Be careful.

A great game for your Xbox collection

This game won't leave you breathless with its pretty visuals or incredibly intuitive controls. It is not that type of game. But let's face it, the oppotunity to run around with a lightsaber that acts and sounds exactly as it does in the movies, is well worth the price of admission into this fantasyland.

RPGs are not for everyone. Big fans of FPS (First Person Shooter) games typically don't enjoy sitting around letting the computer do the actual combat - you, the player, decide your character's actions on screen but the computer actually handles the tasks as you assign them. Nor do they really want to spend lots of time building up a character tweaking this skill and that skill until they have, in their opinion, the ultimate killing machine. You can choose to be male or female, change your facial features, what you're wearing, and, as the game progresses, what color of lightsaber(s) you weild in battle. If you're a fan of Star Wars and not so set in your FPS ways or have been waiting for a decent RPG on the box - this game can provide hours of entertainment.

The graphics are perhaps the most disappointing aspect of the game. The box is capable of so much but the top down style common to gaming RPGs often fail to visually impress. The battles and environments often make up for this lack. Once you achieve Jedi status the battles sound and look so impressive that you may forget how horrible some of the other graphics look. The dialog is pretty straightforward, and while I wouldn't consider it overly corny, it definitely could have been improved. There's some good humor to be found in the dialog if you aren't looking to consider it too seriously.

The paths of good and evil, excuse me, the lightside and darkside are very apparent throughout the game but nothing inexcusable. Choices have to be made as the game progresses and while most of the game is non-linear something has to help progress the game to a finale, an acceptable game limitation in my opinion.

Bioware has been making great D&D licensed RPGs for many years now and they don't really disappoint when working with the venerable Lucasarts. They've learned what works and what doesn't. Character skills/abilities are deep enough to provide some decent variety but not so deep that fleshing out your character takes up 75% of the game.

I certainly wouldn't consider this the best game the Box has to offer, but most likely one the best RPG to found on the Box to date. If nothing else this is a quality Star Wars franchise game worthy of owning.

Great RPG even though I'm not a Starwars fan

People are complaining about the attack system, it's an RPG like Final Fantasy. Give the game a chance because you start off with low stats and as you further progress you get your lightsaber and new moves, more stats and it gets alot better. It's not so linier like Splinter Cell(great stealth game). Before atacking you can pick 3 moves by pushing X instead of always atacking once a time. There are some nice effects as well.

There's a storyline to follow for Starwars fans.

OK, first of all, this game owns. ok? it seriously owns. Rivals halo. Beats all other rpg's. If you hate this game and think that the fighting is boring, then screw you. But! if your a guy who thinks that the side quests are boring and its too linear, just try playing the game over differently. its literally impossible to play exactly the same twice. also, if you're looking to buy this game for the pc, please look at system requirements, located on the bottom of the box. Your comp has to be pretty good to play this game.
But if your comp can play this game....

GO OUT AND FREAKING BUY THIS GAME!! NO BETTER GAME OUT THERE

... this is the first Star Wars game set in the time before EP 1 during the Sith war (Hopfully Meaning "Good Plot Line") also I have Bete tested this game a little but I cant tell you anything I lerned in that.... Darn copyrights! But if anyone has read about it it looks alot like the fighting part of Star Wars Galaxies (Coming out later this year) and everyone in the Star Wars fun groupes was hoping that they would do just that and make a fighting game like Star Wars Galaxies and the timeline is great the old Jedi Order. So besides having agood plot line and time line the weapons look good. I wont say anything else thats all I should know about the game... I Would say it looks better than Jedi Knight Outcast

The Best Xbox Game Available

I was reluctant to purchase Knights of the Old Republic(KOTOR) despite its many Game of the Year awards. I thought that I probably wouldn't like the combat system, and questioned whether I should spend the lengthly amount of time required to beat the game.
I read a lot about the game before making my purchase. I have since played through KOTOR twice (something I have done only one other time and I do own a lot of games), and rate it as the best game on the Xbox system.
I like Star Wars--well, the original trilogy--but I lean more towards being a casual fan. However, playing KOTOR was the closest a fan can get to actually participating in a Star Wars adventure.
The game's graphics, dialog, and action is authentic to the Star Wars universe. The combat system, which I initially feared would be boring, is one of the best aspects of the game. The combat system is a real-time, turn-based system that provides a much deeper experience than combat systems typically used in third-person adventures. Don't worry if you postponed purchasing this because of concerns about the combat system--it is very fluid and doesn't feel anything like a traditional turned-based system. However, the best part of the game is the voice acting, which is superior to any other Xbox game. The voice acting combines with the excellent dialog to give the player a Star Wars experience that feels true to the films.
There is no other game like it on the Xbox system.

The best RPG in the history of the Star Wars Universe

This game is truly the best RPG for Star Wars fans bar none. If you want a game that sucks you in and won't let you go until the very last scene is complete, this is the game for you. A wonderful story and twist that, depending how deep you put yourself in the game, really pulls at your heart and senses. I recommend this game to anyone that wants to feel they are part of the Star Wars Universe. This game will keep you playing for hours on end, make you think your way through battles, and at times frustrate you to no end, but keeps you hammering away at it until you figure out the next move. Highly recommended!!!!

The best RPG for XBOX ever!

This game is unbelievable. You have so many different levels, so many different angles and so many different storylines to explore.

The main storyline is twisting and brilliantly written & performed. As you make your way through the game, you get the option to make yourself into a servant of the light side or an underling of the dark side. With a truly unique combat and advancement system (based on the d20 Star Wars system- always a treat), this game will have you playing for weeks to beat it, that is, if you skip all the side storylines. And after you're done beating it as a light jedi or a dark jedi- you'll be raring to beat it as the opposite side.

The sequel is coming out in a year or so, and if you think that I'm patient about its release, you're nuts, because this game is incredible, and if its sequel is half as good as the original it will be worth double and asked price.

Finally a game that lives up to the Star Wars name!!!

A true triumph for Bioware and Star Wars fans alike. Plenty to see and do in the buatifully rendered environs, with 5+ planets to explore and minigames to master you'll be hard pressed to finish this one soon. And even if you do You'll wanna play it again just to see what it's like to play as a good or evil Jedi.

The rivetting storyline, loads of subplots, and interparty interaction that will really suck you in and all make for an unforgettable experience. This is THE classic game for Star Wars. Buy it, play it, become one with the Force!!
