Don't believe the Nay-sayers: embrace your destiny

Ok. Here it is: the definitely review that encorporates over 15 hours of gameplay with some common sense.

This is by far the best Star Wars game produced to date--end of discussion. The storyline is better than anything Lucas dreamed up for the last two "star wars" movies (where were you Bioware?!).

Sound = 5/5. It's tremendous. From the hum of my lightsaber to the voice acting (totally engrossing), you are sucked into a galaxy far, far away...
Music = 5/5. Top notch. Not a lot of the John william's soundtrack here, just a lot more mood being set. Excellent music that fits each scenario/plant/task.
Graphics = 3/5. Are they the BEST graphics ever? No. Are they WAY above average? YES. Solid graphics on all levels (planets are beautiful--I could just explore for hours and hunt sand raiders on tatooine for credits--oh wait, I did!). yes the game "skips" sometimes when you turn to reposition the camera or when you've moving, but only once in a while. It is so minimal you won't even notice after a few hours of play. Nothing to concern yourself over.
Gameplay = 5/5. Totally unreal. Tons to do and tons of ways to do it. the replay value built into this game is enormous. I look forward to playing again and again.
Combat = 4/5. I give four becuase although I think it is a five, some will not like it since they don't 'control' the fighting. You instead 'direct' it. You issue commands to your team and watch as they are carried out, and although it sounds very passive, it is SO enjoyable to be able to sit back and watch your turn-based decisions being played out in real time. It's a lot like being able to direct a fight sequence and to my surprise I found it VERY, VERY enjoyable. I love just picking fights so I can watch my double-bladed red sabre (a la Darth maul) slice through my enemies with ease!
Value = 5/5. Huge replay value. After playing this game for 15 hours. I would honestly consider paying $100 (USD) for it. It is that good. So many different things to do, places to see, people to interact with and ways to interact depending on your force preference (light or dark), you'll be reliving this saga again and again.

OVERALL: 5/5 A GREAT Game that will challenge Halo as the best overall game in the Xbox library. If you are an RPG fan, pick it up. If you are a Star Wars fan--this is honestly your dream come true.

May the force be with you.

The graphics in this game are amazing! I have to ask, who would make a game where you dont control the gun (or lightsaber in this case) all you do is pick a target and press the trigger and the AI decides when to fire and how fast. Its Horrible!!!
Dont Waste your money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this game is missing something

When you play this game you tell the character what to do and it does it fast enough that you almost think your actually playing but when you use a blaster you cant aim the game does it for you it gives you a choice when attacking of the attack type but if you dont tell the character what to do they will use a weak attack the good thing is you can set it so it wont pause after each attack.

Ends at a bad point

Although KOTOR is a very enjoyable game, it would be much better if after you've become the dark lord of the sith, you are able to rule the galaxy as the dark lord of the sith, instead of the game ending after all the people bow down before you. The game returns to the start screen after this, and you have to start a new game. I would much rather continue the game when I'm at the top of my power and have everything, rather than starting another one that will end in the same conclusion. ABSOLUTELY NO REPLAY VALUE.

This game is so cool that I would friggin die for it!!!!!!!!

The gameplay and the characters are cool. The story and setting are stellar. And the suspence, adrenaline, and adventure is epic. In this game you can design a human character for your main character. The best part is that you can use more that one person at a time including wookies, twi'leks, and even droids. Once you get into the game you will discover that your costumized character has a destiny within the mysterious ways of the jedi knights. You will encounter classic enemies and beasts like rancors, gamorreans, krayt dragons, and a wide assortment of battle droids. If I could rate this higher than 5 stars, I would. I would marry this game if I could.

Not the great game experience most make it out to be

It's a solid, full experience, but the fact that you're not taking any active role in the fights detracts from what otherwise is a fully realized world.
Those looking for a Star Wars RPG will love this, as I'm sure many RPG lovers will. But after playing such Star Wars games as Jedi Academy, Bounty Hunter and Jedi Outcast, I was disappointed, that you couldn't just run in and start attacking foes with either a lightsaber or take aim and fire your choice of weapon. Rather, you can only target, and WATCH as your character slowly exchanges fire with enemies who don't move even an inch in any direction as you fire, duck, he fires, you fire, he fires, you fire, etc. etc. I've never been much of an RPG fan nor a fan of the Final Fantasy series which seems like the Holy Grail of RPGs, so perhaps that's why, the battle scenes disappoint me. Not a game worth buying for anything more than half of the original retail price.

But beware.... it can screw you

I played this damn game for 3 days straight on vacation, got to a point in the game where the plot takes a huge turn, then.......... it got stuck. Game is gone. If you have people cloaked during a scene transition, the game may hang up and youre screwed.... unless you have a game saved before you cloak the character. I cant even play this game anymore, having to start over from the very beginning and do EVERYTHING over again. It sucks.

Finally a good star wars game!!!!

I don't even know where to start. This game is A LOT of fun. I'll start out by telling you the good and then I'll mention the bad. This game has pretty good graphics. I'd give it a 8.5. They're not like splinter cell but they're done well and definitely better than most. The gameplay is also good. Probably another 8.5. For sound I would give it a 9. Basically the story behind the game is that you start out on a huge starship called the endar spire. You are awakened by a soldier who tells you that the ship is under attack and you have to get out of there. You take an escape pod down to a planet called taris and the fun starts from there. So far I have played for 17 hours. I tend to play slower than most though because its not a race to finish the game for me. I would rather enjoy it. So far I have become a dueling champion, collected bounties, robbed and murdered, raced a swoop, assassinated a gang leader, sold the cure for a disease to an evil crimelord, and became a jedi. I played for about 12 hours before I even became a jedi. I love the fighting system. Usually I hate RPG's because I find it boring to choose attack and then watch my guy attack and then wait for the enemy to hit me and so on and so forth. This game isn't jedi outcast or anything but the fighting is fast enough that its fun and if you like the old slow turn based combat then you can do that too. I just simply haven't been able to put the controller down so far.

Now I'll comment on the bad. Now I know I'm being picky but some of this stuff just doesn't make sense. Example: I want to be a dark jedi so I always make every "evil" decision that I can. My scale that indicates which side of the force I'm on is pretty much all the way to the dark as far as it can go. It was like this when I met the jedi council yet they still train me. Also I continue to do everything that they request. So I'm occasionally doing "good" because I have no choice but to. Maybe there's some major turning point in the future but I doubt it. I was really hoping that I would be working for the sith at some point and trying to destroy the jedi. I mean like I said I can't be much further to the dark side of the force. Also the mini games are a little weak. For example the swoop race isn't very deep. I guess I was expecting pod racing. There's also no option to change controls for when you are using the turrets in your starship. I don't like it when the aim moves up when I press up on the thumbstick. I like up to be down and down to be up.

These are all minor problems. The game is great. I haven't had this much fun playing a game since I beat windwaker. If you are a star wars fan then run out and get this game immediately. If you like RPG's then get this game immediately basically anyone that likes video games or star wars should get this game. Its a really great time!!!!

Worth the wait!!!

It was a long wait, but it was well worth it. This is the best embodiment of the Star Wars universe in video game form there ever was. With most SW games being action oriented, the RPG format allows for you to be thrown dead smack in the middle of this fantastic world. Cantinas, Jedis, Wookies, Droids, Sith, intergalactic politics, it's all here, re-created in an original format with familiar themes.

This game is incredibly addicting and realistic in the sense that is a lot harder to follow the path of righteousness than to follow the path of the dark side. The side quests make the game rich and give you the sense of a universe alive with intrigue and much more complex than a simple hero saves the day dynamic. Every SW fan will get a little fuzzy feeling when they first yield their own custom built light saber (even more so when you're manning two light sabers or a double-sided saber) for the first time, followed by a Wookie with a cross-bow on your right and a Han Solo wanna-be to your left with two blasters. It's hard not to feel as if the Galaxy is yours for the picking... and fall into the dark-side ;)

This has been already said in every review, but it's one of the game's strong points. The sound is top notch with the usual Williams score coupled by extremely well done voice acting and very well scripted dialogue, really bringing a human (or alien for that matter) dimension to all the characters.

Finally, the graphics are actually well done, but the game has some frame rate problems that are over shadowed by the overall presentation. However, whenever the camera zooms too closely during dialogue, you realize some of the NPC characters can be somewhat crude in design with a low polygon count. But for most of the game play, the presentation is well done with beautiful environments and awesome atmospheric effects.

The battle system is innovative and fun to watch and does a nice job in mixing traditional turn-based battles with a real - time feeling. Incredible value, lots of replay potential, massive worlds, several side quests. Haven't stayed up late like this because of a game for a long time. Buy it!!!

A Game with Real Plot

If, as a gamer over the age of 25, you have been searching for a game that has plot, look no further. Yes, as many reviews have said, this game excels on many levels - graphics, combat, RPG elements, etc. However, the thing that really stands out is the in-depth storyline and the multiple paths you can take through it. I was not really a big fan of the recent Star Wars movies, as they destroyed the romance of my youthful experience in the first movies. KOTOR redeems the franchise, with no thanks to Lucas himself.

Video-games are still experimenting with what is really possible in the medium. They are not movies, they are not books, they are not boardgames, and - yes - they are way more than 'arcade' games. The developers at Bioware are blessed with the ability to infuse the games they make with the REAL stuff. The real mark of a classic is that, even when technology has moved on, we still enjoy the experience. Think of old movie classics. In 10 years, people will still be playing this game...
