I love the XBOX. I was planning on buying a PS2 solely to play GT3 and 4. Not anymore. I love this game! Tons of cars and tracks. Tons of upgrades. You can customize your car to look however you want. You can add your own soundtracks. Good sound and graphics. There are no stupid license tests. There are plenty of adjustments to make the game as easy or as hard as you can handle. The only thing I dont like is that you cannot adjust the sensitivity. The steering, throttle, and braking is a little touchy. It is difficult to make slight turns. It is also difficult to keep high powered, rear wheel drive cars from peeling out and turning sideways (suped up vette or mustang). It is now my favorite racing game. Better than anything I have played on Xbox or PS2.

When I got my XBox it came with a copy of Sega 2000 GT. I really enjoyed that game up to a point, namely the point when the difficulty curve shot up dramatically and it was no longer fun to play anymore (i.e. impossible to win). Forza is light-years beyond that game, and I'm sure most other games in this genre. The learning curve is gradual, and you actually end up learning a great deal about auto racing. Yes, it's that real. It is a true simulation, not just a game. There is a massive selection of cars and tracks, and many different types of competition events. Career mode is the most fun, as you can win cars and money, and spend that money to customize your cars. Don't spend too much time tricking out your cars, though, because you'll find yourself switching between cars frequently in order to get through all of the different events. This can be a real learning experience. If you've spent the majority of your time in a FWD car, switching to the RWD can be traumatic (try the Porsche 911 A-class at Laguna Seca, or enter the Rotary challenge and try to keep that RX7 on the track). Luckily there is a "free run" mode in which you can practice with any car on any track; an invaluable aid when you find yourself stumped. You can tweak each car's setup right down to the tire pressure, spring tension, wheel camber, gear ratios, and all that stuff. You really can get lost in this game. Overall this is a game which will remain interesting for quite some time (not good news for your family or any hobbies you will end up neglecting for hours on end). I'm beginning to hate this game because it's so dang fun I just can't stop playing. Darn you, Microsoft.
This game rocks !!!

Best racing sim I have ever played on a console. It's even decently controllable without a wheel, but now that I own this game I will be getting one as soon as I can.
Telemetry during replay has some really nice information including accelerometer, suspension travel, tire pressure and temperature, friction circle and contact patch size for each tire. If you take the time to really pay attention to these during a replay, you can learn a few things to improve your car setup as well as driving technique for problem turns.
Unlike other racing games I've played, your competitors don't play demolition derby and do have some self preservation instinct. They won't ram you or steal your line, and will actually leave you racing room (even better behaved than Spec Miata drivers :). You really can go door to door with them in the middle of the pack without being run over.
Some people don't like the lack of an in-car view. I actually never use it in other games because you don't have peripheral vision if you drive this way. Since a computer screen can only look one direction and provide a sort of tunnel view, just behind the car is the next best thing.
The scenery on the tracks is not quite detailed enough to pick up reference points, but the school cones are left on the tracks which helps compensate this shortcoming. There are two driving aids I leave turned on: ABS and "ideal line". Not necessarily because I need help with the line but because it changes color according to how fast I am going so I get an idea of how close to adhesion I am at. Since your butt is probably the most important sensory input while racing, this helps out a lot. ABS too because of the lack of a butt as well as no pedal feel. But turn off the stability and traction controls, learn something and have fun. Just like in any other half decent simulation, the manual transmission will give you much better control through the turns. It acts like a no-lift sequential shift which makes things easier with no clutch control.
Despite claims of being ultra-realistic, it isn't. It is close and for a video game it's a lot of fun. While you can throttle steer and go through a turn with opposite lock, it's way too difficult to actually spin the car. If you drop a wheel off track, you can yank the car right back on without dire consequences and I think it is impossible to actually roll.
Even if you actually do racing, buy this game and play it in the off season. While no video game is nothing like the thrill of driving a race car, this is great fun.
Great Racing Game!

Forza Motorsport is a pleasantly addictive game that offers hours of challenging fun. The graphics and realistic car and track setups further entise the need to continue to play. Only two (personal) drawbacks enter my opinions of this game. Pit stops should be offered no matter what setting you are in - from practice to full on racing. Second, the custom setup (fine tuning) of each car should be supplemented by a "crew chief" making recommendations - depending on driving style, track conditions, and car upgrades (this is not so). Instead, many hours are spent tuning, testing and evaluating each car. I hope this review helps... Now, I've got to get back to racing!

Forza Motorsport is by far the best racing game not only for xbox, but for all consoles. It is better than GT4 in every way, though some people don't think so. One reason why it is the best is how you can customize any car in any way possible. Also, when you crash it inflicts damage to your car which affects your car's performance and deducts money from your race winnings, which adds to the realism of the game. Overall, I think Forza Motorsport is better than every other racing game out there.

I really do enjoy this game and all the efforts that were put into it. I like racing on some of the tracks that I have really been to and it almost seems like Im really there. My only problem with this game is the cars! A whole load of cars that I wouldn't really want to drive. I wish more than anything that this company would put out more race sims with this true 5 star quality. For instance how about some INDY cars and NASCAR and Dirt sprinters such as "The World of Outlaws". Or micro midgets or regular midgets or Super-B Motor Cycles like "King Kenny's #2 Yamaha" world champ motor cycles With this quality it would just be the #1 race game that would be hard to top! Forza is good don't get me wrong.I just wish there were other titles with this quality. It's like finaly we get the quality we want but were driving a car that is sort of unpopular with the exception of a few. Or it's like driving my rich dad's car. Most of these cars to me are a bit of a bore but this is also just my preference and my opinion. I certainly bought a copy for the quality and the drive! I just wish we had some INDY with this quality at heart I guess. Pretty awesome action!
I would recommend this game for what it is and how good it is. Every thing I have stated is only reflecting my taste.
If you like these kinds of cars I don't think you can beat this baby!
Take her for a test drive.

This game isn't bad, but it has serious problems:
1) No replays unless you quit a race! Makes it tough to learn by watching a turn or 2 in replay, but still be able to continue racing afterwards.
2) If you quit a race to watch a replay, the controls for replays are terrible. You can't do any seeking, fast forwarding, rewinding and you can't manipulate the camera besides a paltry 4 not so good views. Makes replays tedious to use and not all that impressive since you can't move the camera to get cool images of race events.
3) You have to drive from one of 4 bad vantage points. Either 2 harldy different views with you floating above your car, or else 2 hardly different views from you riding with your nose scraping on the pavement. No first person view where you see the cockpit / dashboard! I know there are a lot of cars so that might have been hard, but driving as a disembodied floating viewpoint makes this feel less like driving and more like moving a camera around the track.
4) The braking is terrible. Way too sensitive with no way to adjust it! There is a hair trigger on locking up your wheels - push too little on the left trigger and you don't get much braking force at all, push too much and you come to a screeching halt. Way too fine a line (and I'm a veteran of virtual racing for 15 years of driving on PC / Xbox. I know how to do it!).
5) No weather effects.
6) Why do I have to play and play and play to unlock stuff I paid for? Can't they offer a mode where I can play any car, on any track!!! It is maddening to have so few choices initially and be trapped into having to play so many races in so many cars I'm not interested in just to get to cars and tracks I want.
7) I've played for several hours already, and the longest race offered is 3 laps! One mistake and you can't really win. That's way too short. Races should be long enough that you can bide your time, pass when appropriate, and recover from small driving errors. With 3 laps, you basically are done just when you feel like you are getting warmed up. And like I said above, who knows how long you have to play this game before it lets you drive longer races. After several hours, I still can't!
8) Game is very impersonal. There is very little personality in this game. Feels very bland playing it. Looks good, but it is ultimately very sterile and isn't totally immersive like other racing games have been for me. Even the name - what the heck?
9) There does not appear to be any weight transfer / body roll happening with regards to the vehicles. The game seems to model suspension in this manner - but on all the replays I've watched the car bodies never seem to react in response to weight transfer. That either means the physics aren't as great as claimed, or they are disconnected from the visual simulation and either way that's bad.
10) Bad interface screens. Navigating around this game isn't easy or intuitive. You have to go in and out of many layers of menus to do things, and in and out of actual races as well meaning you ares sitting through loading screens longer than you should be. In general, the whole front end of this game (what you do before you are finally on the track racing) is burdensome.
Everyone is hyping this game. Everyone wants it to be great. Me too. I love the Xbox and I want it to have a GT4 killer. But GT4 has some of these problems too. Developers have innovated some (drivatar and dynamic racing line), but stayed too formulaic and emulative of the GT games. This game was in development a long time with a big team. Should have had more flair, better visual representation of physics, way better interfaces / menus, better music, better camera views / controls, better game saving (not even sure if you can - I've never yet been in a compelling enough race to care to try), weather, and more.
It looks good. It can wow your friends. You'll play it thinking there is more too it for a few hours, but I think it will turn out to be one of those 'good' games that really just sits on your shelf after a week or 2 with it. Not nearly exciting enough to play, and with serious critical flaws related to camera, interface.
Decent...but overhyped

I definetly looked forward to this game, but after 2 years of Project Gotham 2, I can't seem to accept what "seems" like a game that was created before PGR2.
The graphics are by FAR a letdown. GT4 blows it away, and PGR2 is must crisper also.
Game play is decent...sure its more realistic, harder to drive, turn, less acceleration, but it's NOT AS FUN!!
If you are a GT4 fan, this may be for you. But if you want instant XBOX live racing with a more "fun' factor...then look to PGR2.

What is the pain? The fact that I now get no sleep because this game is one of the best. Its a must have for any Xbox game collection.
