What a game!!! I first played this game on a gamecube demo I got for free. It had this and some other games. I have to admit that at first I didn't like it. I wasn't a big fan of cel-shaded graphics at first. But after playing this game more, I loved it. So once it got down to $20, I bought it and haven't looked back since. It is basically an arcade game that you would expect from the old capcom. It is everything you would expect from an arcade game: side-scroling, non-stop action, puzzles, and powers to make Joe a superhero one should not mess with. Plus this game is really hard. Old-school gamers should appreciate that because nowadays not many games come out that take along time to beat. So the morale of this story is buy this game because you won't be dissapointed.
For the overgrown Power Ranger fan.

I kid you not, if grew-up watch Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers, this game was made for you. Playing Viewtiful Joe is the most fun I've had playing video games since my days of playing TMNT3 the ol' NES. It incorporates the same style of gameplay in which countless enemies, that look Putties from Power Rangers, come storming in only to meet up with your fist. The catch, you get use cool Special Effects Power, called VFX, to slow down, speed up and zoom in.
I should mention that this game is hard, I mean hard. So, if you get frustrated easily, you might want to rent first. There is a Kids difficultly to help you get a step up on the competition. Once you've gotten there you can challenge the game on even harder difficulties, and unlocking more heroes as you play. It's a true challenge for anyone of any gamming level.
My bottom line, if you're looking for some old school 2D action, buy Viewtiful Joe. Oh, and it's player's choice!!!

I have the demo and the import version of Viewtiful Joe, and I've just gotta say that I'm amazed at how fun and surprisingly deep this game is. at first I thought it was just going to be the typical beat 'em up, but once you get to using the viewtiful powers like Slow and Mach Speed and Zoom In, you can see how much variety this game offers. and if you think this game just gets repetitive after 2 levels, think again...you can constantly buy newer and better moves to kick even more variety into the mix. After reaching the end of the levels and seeing your overall rating, it becomes incredibly addicting trying to replay the level and perform more "viewtifully". It's also important to note that this game, unlike most beat 'em ups, has a nice challenge to it...it's not likely that the player will fly through the game in one day, let alone one week. I also think it's worth noting that nothing gets you quite as pumped to K.O. some baddies as joe saying, "henshin-a-go-go-baby!" I love it! I don't know what else to say except BUY THIS GAME!!!

I heard good reviews about this game and decided to buy it. At first I thought it was pretty fun, but after the third boss or so, I became tired of it. I don't know what it was that finally made me realized that this game sucks, but it did it well. Here is what I think it might have been:
-The fighting (became trite)
-Special effects (weren't good)
-Story line (cliched)
-Voices (horrendously inane)
-Graphics (nice, but the comic-book drawings were kind of dumb)
Methinks that what I hate about the game is excatly what people love about it. I lost the game so I didn't try finishing it, which doesn't really bother me. I suggest renting the game before buying. That will save you money--or it would have for me anyway.

Thats right...this game is great. It brings back the great 2D of the old generation but the graphics are cel-shaded which is the new fad. The fighting is so cool and it has alot of depth. The slow mo, mach speed, and zoom feature are all great. I can't wait till this game comes out on the Gamecube later this fall. This is a must-have game for all!
Like Mario on Acid!!!

What an adrenaline rush! The name of this game/character is corny and does not do justice to the excitement and fast action pace this game provides. The scenery is cool, and the 3D robots are a fun and a challenge to fight. The "slow" mode is really cool when fighting the robots in spin/tornado mode, as it is remiscent of the duck and dodge bullet sceenes in The Matrix. There is one level where you go into a castle type house that is guarded by stationary knights with guilotine axes, and the usual robot thugs. After you pass the thug robots and knights, which isn't too difficult, you enter a western style room complete with wooden chandalier, that is guarded by a cowboy hat wearin', two six gun totin' super robot thug. This is the hardest of the robots to defeat, and you will need to use both the "slow" and "warp" speed modes to slow down and dodge the bullets and speed up and catch the annoying @%$!! One interesting note is that because it is supposed to be a movie type theme, whenever Joe gets defeated, the offscreen "director" shouts, "Cut, cut, cut!!!", before you are transported back to the previous level, or should I say, "scene"?

Get ready for some action!!! Viewtiful Joe is a very stylish game exclusive to the Nintendo Gamecube. The game's wacky 2D graphics put the 5th Star on the 5 stars. You are out on a date and you and your girlfriend get sucked into a movie. You become a superhero and get taught superpowers such as slow, mach speed, and zoom in. The star of the movie, Captain Blue, teaches you these moves after beating him in some matches. This game is very action packed as you try to save your girlfriend while showin off! Henshin-a-go-go Baby!!! This game is worth buying the gamecube just for Viewtiful Joe. Buy it now before it's too late!!

Wow. That is all I can muster after playing this game in a display case, and soon after buying it. First, you think: Ah man, it's only 2D. Then you think: Ugg, more cell-shaded junk. Then you think: Wow, only a $40 price tag, they must be desperate. Then you play the game. What you have here is the most awesome little platformer ever created that out-matrixes the matrix in style and finesse, and that you can seriously enjoy. A word to the wise, though: Joe's difficulty will kill you 10 times over first, but that is a small price to pay for such an awesome game with ten dollars of a normal new game's price tag.
