When the Dreamcast tanked in 2001, I was shocked and worried that I'd never get to play the 128-bit games that I'd been wanting to for so long, among them Sonic Adventure and its sequel. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending how you look at it), everyone's favorite hedgehog found a new home at Nintendo, where his popular Dreamcast games would be re-released for the pleasure of those of us who hadn't gotten our hands on Sega's last console. Sonic Adventure 2 was the first DC game to be converted over to the GameCube, with enhanced graphics, bonus mini-games, and an all-new 2-player battle mode. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle rightfully deserves all the credit it has gotten. Here's a basic rundown of the game:
-Two new playable characters are introduced. Shadow the Hedgehog, the ultimate life form, created by Professor Gerald Robotnik (Dr. Robotnik's grandfather), can use a little thing called Chaos Control to temporarily freeze time. Rouge the Bat, a government spy and persistent treasure hunter, can glide through the air and dig into the ground to find whatever she is looking for.
-Play as either the Hero side (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles) and save the world or the Dark side (Dr. Robotnik, Shadow, and Rouge) and take over the world.
-Stages alternate between characters with three different types of stages. There's the classic run to the goal ring as fast as possible for Sonic and Shadow, treasure hunting missions for Knuckles and Rouge, and lock on and shoot stages for Tails and Robotnik.
-Various level-up items for each character scattered throughout the stages.
-Between levels, if you find a blue box with a Chao key, you can go to the Chao garden and raise your own Chao. Also race your Chao, take it to Chao Karate, and drop it off at Chao kindergarten to learn various lessons. (To me, the Chao serve no purpose to the game except to add a few emblems you need to collect.)
-Speaking of emblems, there are 180 in the entire game (five for each of the 31 action stages, an extra emblem for each side of the story completed, an extra emblem for each character which receives all A ranks in their stages, and a few for Chao races and karate.)
-16 stages for the Hero Side, 14 for the Dark Side, and one gigantic Last Level in which each of the six characters must perform certain tasks to complete the mission.
-A fun Kart Racing mini-game that can be unlocked very easily (I won't tell you how, you can figure it out for yourself).
-A cool 2-player battle mode in which you can fight your buddies head-to head in shooting, treasure hunting, run to the finish, Kart Racing, and Chao Racing and karate. Extra characters available for these games are Amy, Metal Sonic, Tikal, Chaos Zero, Chao Walker, and Dark Chao Walker.
-Upon collecting all 180 emblems, you will unlock one final bonus level that will be sure to please hardcore old school gamers (like myself). If you want to spoil it for yourself and find out what it is, read someone else's review.
Well, those are some of the pros. Here are the negatives:
-A very, very, VERY BAD camera that can easily get stuck behind walls or other large objects, obstructing the view of your character and sometimes leading to certain death. You can change the camera angle when standing still, but after even the slightest move it will return to the default position.
-The treasure hunting levels can often be long, tedious, and frustrating, especially when you are close to something but just can't quite figure out where exactly it is.
-Shadow only gets four action stages, compared to five for everyone else (Sonic gets six).
-Getting A rankings for certain stages is quite difficult, sometimes even impossible. You just need to practice to get really good at this thing.
All in all, this game is a breath of fresh air, something I've been waiting for since Sonic 3 and Knuckles. To see Sonic in 3-D is truly wonderful, and this game gives the entire cast the chance to shine like never before. This is a must-have for any Sonic fan.
I love it!!!!!!!!!1

I have been a fan of this game since I first played it. You can be 3 different teams: Hero, dark, and chaos. The hero side is sort of a challenge. In this side you can be Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. The dark is harder than the hero side. On the dark side you can be Rouge the bat, the Evil Doctor Eggman, and Shadow the Hedgehog. I am nine years old.
IT IS AWSOME!!!

This game is fun and hard, and includes stategy. It will seem E-Z on the first 6 or so levels, but then it gets hard! It took me 2 MONTHS to BEAT
OF THE harder LEVELS! I recommend this game for people 7+, because like I said, it includes some HARD strategy.
Sweet Success

I've had this game for 2 years, but I just beat it. It is a very fun game, I love the choa. I just don't understand why Shadow had to die. I thought Shadow was the best character. This is my first Sonic game since Sega, and I loved it.
Sonic comes back and Shadow makes his grand apearence

This is truely the BEST next to the original genasis games! Shadow is my favorite and has been before I started playing and beleave me, choosing Dark side is the best path. of course beating all the storys is the big treat the last part brings in the truth of what happened 50 years ago! Shadows wonderful personality and tragic end made strong fans around the world who all celabrated with his return in Sonic Heroes. I am one of them.I've beeten the game with 115 emblems total and also (heres the best) am a chao raser. My Chao Maria is probably the fasest chao there is she's cleared every race and only is happy when I bring Shadow to the garden. For a story beyond all game plots (except Zelda. those are the best) and fun Chao rasing thats better then the first you have GOT to play this game.

This is the best sonic/shadow game ever. I've played and beaten every sonic game even the old ones. This one was the best the upgrades, sonic's shoes, and the music(the best songs were Live and Learn and City Escape but Live and Learn was better). I played sonic heroes and shadow the hedgehog, which was a dissapointment even though he's my favorite gaming chracter in the universe, and this was 100 times better. If you can only buy one game it's this one.
Where did my chao go

The only thing about this game I hate is if your child is playing the game your chao can die. Yes it will disappear and never come back again but if you are lucky it will be reborn.
It's a Bird, It's a PLane, It's Sonic & Friends!

Toward the end of the Dreamcast's life SEGA released some of the best DC titles ever: Crazy Taxi 2, Phantasy Star Online, PSO Ver. 2, & Sonic Adventure 2, the wonderful sequel to the wonderful DC launch game Sonic Adventure. The DC version of this game already rocks, are you ready for the GameCube version? In the game, an evil hedgehog known as Shadow is stealing chaos emeralds. Sorry for Sonic, everybody believes that Sonic is the one stealing everything. Also, the master emerald has shattered! Now Knuckles & a female bat, Rogue, are flying around collecting master emerald pieces. Also, Tails & Robotnick run around in their robot suits. "This is the bottom line, cause Stone Cold said so:" This game absolutelly rocks on the Dreamcast. If you have a DC & a GC get this version for extra features. If you own a GC & no DC, it's time you met the hedgehog from town.

When I heard Sonic Adventure 2 was being released on GameCube I was pretty excited, I fell in love with Sonic playing the old Sega Genesis games. What I found was unexpected, and somewhat of a disapointment. This game follows a big storyline, and you can play two stories, Hero or Dark. You might think, great two stories to play, but they are basically identical, good vs. evil basically. The good, or Hero story if you will, involvs Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. The bad, or Dark story, includes Dr. Eggman, Shadow and Rouge. Basically, Sonic and Shadow are the exact same, Rouge and Knuckles are the exact same and Tails and Dr. Eggman are the exact same. The main problem with this game is too many characters, I would have preferred it to just focus on Sonic, instead of 6 characters in total. I wasn't even following the story because it was completely boring. The levels are somewhat challenging, and you get a ranking (A-E based on how quick you finish the level, among other things). Each level has 5 different challenges. The first is to finish the level, the second is to get 100 rings, the third is to find the hidden Chao, the fourth is usually to finish in a certain amount of time and the fifth is hard mode. Tails and Dr. Eggman's levels were pretty annoying, since they are basically robots, it would have been nicer to have them be normal. Knuckles and Rouge's levels are pretty annoying too, as you mostly have to treasure hunt for emeralds. Sonic & Shadow's levels are pretty basic, and the most fun out of all the characters. There's also this Chao game, where you raise an animal and make it strong, you can race it or make it do all this stuff. There's definately lots to do in this game, but it gets boring really quickly and most of the time I didn't care if I finished or not. Not to mention, the original soundtrack of this game, is AWFUL. Some of the worst music I've heard. The fact that most levels in both stories overlap each other, make it pretty lame. Overall I'd suggest you borrow this from a friend or rent it, it's not really worth owning to tell the truth.
