This... game... is... so... good...

I can't even begin to describe how good this game is. It has to be the best Gamecube game yet. Maybe it is even close to being the best game ever. Yes, that is how good Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is.

Sonic Adventure 2 was originally released for Dreamcast. This is the Gamecube version. In this version, a new two-player mode has been added. But let's start with the single player story.

The Single player Mode has two stories. A Hero mode and a Dark mode. In Hero mode you play as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. In Dark Mode you play as Shadow (A new character who looks like Sonic), Dr. Eggman, and Rouge.

If you have ever played a 3D Sonic game you should be able to understand the gameplay. Basically, it is almost a platformer. But it really isn't really because you need to go very fast through each level. Sonic has always been about speed. And you'll get plenty of it here! Maybe the term "action" better suits the game.

Not all the levels in SA2: Battle have this "action" style to them. Some are quieter. I am Talking about the Knuckles/Rouge levels. See, the action style mentioned above only applies to Sonic/Shadow levels. In the Knuckles/Rouge levels you have a radar to help you find items like jewels. There are also Tails/Eggman levels. Tails and Eggman are in little robot suits that can shoot. These levels are shooting levels. They are like 3rd person shooters, but a bit different.

Sonic Adventure also introduced little cute pets called "Chao" (pronounced Chow.) These little cute pets get even more fun in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. You can raise them until they become an adult! You can feed than animals you find during the main game. You can also use rings from the main game to buy them fruits. These items will raise the attributes of the Chao. (Such as Flying and Running.) Then, you can start racing you Chao in Chao races! SA2: Battle sticks with the Hero/Dark story by allowing... Hero and Dark Chao! The fun will never end!

What's left? The two player mode obviously! This mode only allows two players. Oh well. The first choice is the action race. This is a race to the finish in a Sonic/Shadow type of level. You can do a grinding race, a snowboarding race, or just a regular level race.

In the Treasure Hunt Mode you play in a Knuckles/Rouge type of level. The object is to try to collect all the pieces of the master emerald using the radar. This is the slower two-player game.

The last "regular" two-player mode is the Shooting mode. This is a head to head battle between two players. You can have a shooting battle or you can have a race to the finish where you must shoot obstacles along the way.

There is always the ability to race Chao or Kart race in the two-player mode. (Kart Racing is also available in the Single Player mode when unlocked, as stated in the SA2: Battle Instruction Manual) Kart Racing is where you can use the six main players to race in small "go karts." This is pretty fun and some people can really enjoy it.

Okay, that is the gameplay. What about the music? Sonic Adventure 2: Battle has some very good music. There are a few songs for every character plus a ton of other songs. The songs range from rap to pop. They were all made specially for Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.

The graphics in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle are pretty nice. While they are a huge improvement over the DC graphics, they don't scream "wow" at you. The graphics are pretty much average for the Gamecube. However, the frame rates (even during top speed) stay very good. Choppy frame rates are a thing of the past!

There is one problem with Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. The game could have been perfect without this problem. The problem is the Camera. The camera can't always stay at the correct angle. Sometimes it gets hard to see Sonic. This can even lead to death sometimes.

In Conclusion, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is a very good game you want to own. You will not regret spending 50 dollars on such a great game. Even with the bad camera angles, you will NOT be disappointed.

maybe, maybe not

All righty then, first off i would like to state that sonic adventure 2 battle is one of the best games i have ever played and that means something! I have played a few sonic games and i am about to buy sonic advance. I have also beaten the game (that does not mean i have collected all the emblems)in single player.this game is defanitly a must have for the gamecube system.I will now explain why this is an wonderfull and exciting game.

the graphics in this game are superb. you may notice a few flaws but all games have those. points=10

The music in this game is breathtaking and after you hear a song on the game you can play it in the sound test option.points=10

the gameplay and controls in this game are very good. the learning curve is so small anyone can learn to play. while some power-ups(allow you to do special moves and attacks) may be hard to reach that adds to the fun.(watch out for bosses) points=9

the chao are cute creatures that sonic fans may remimber from previous games. you can raise them in up to three differant gardens(start with one) and they can become powerful, cute, evil, angelic etc. points=1

as you play this game you may find little things such as sound test to be very interresting... to find them all play the game to its fullist. points=9

So go out and buy SA2B and you'll probally be surprised at what you find...

oh and by the way if you already own a dreamcast and SA2 then you might not want to purchase this item for gamecube. happy gaming!!!!!

Buy it. Now. Even if you already own SA2 for DC.

There are two kinds of people reading this review:

People who don't have SA2 for Dreamcast
- You've read enough positives about this game already. It's beautiful, graphically. Should you be thrown into the air, you'll see stupid amounts of level scrolled out beneath you. It lasts a long, long, time. The chao are fantastic. Et cetera.

So I'd like to answer some negative comments.
> The Knux/Rouge stages are annoying.
Not really, unless you wanted mindless speed nownownowallthetime action. Admittedly, some people may expect that from a Sonic game, but even from the Genesis days they had puzzles and searching bits in them. Use your brain. You'll love it.
> The camera angles [stink].
When you get close to a wall, yes, they can. But it's fairly uncommon.
> The music [stniks].
That's personal preference. Having grown up in the eighties, I personally love it. THere's so much worse influence they could've taken from that decade... *shudders*
> It's too easy to beat. All you do is press up.
Get all 180 emblems before you say that, then get back to me.

That about covers it. Buy this game. Buy it now. Take it home. Beat the story. Beat the extra missions. Find all the powerups. Raise your Chao. Now.

Now, for people who already bought SA2.

This is different enough to justify purchase, if you own a second controller. (Ignore the buffoon at the top of the review page who says otherwise.) In addition to the vastly expanded 2P mode (from six characters and nine stages to twelve characters and twenty stages!), there's much improved graphics and sounds throughout, (palm trees shade the walkways in City Escape), the Chao system is hugely improved (you can SEE your Chao's stats just by picking him up, you can take him to the Chao Karate, and you can now tell from the colour of the cocoon whether he's evolving, dying, or being reborn), and you can buy stuff at the Chao Black Market with your collected rings. Including new, coloured eggs. Even the much-maligned acting has been improved, except in the case of Tails, who is as wooden as ever. Now at least some cutscenes are actually good enough to be worth watching for their own sake...

Buy it? It's up to you. But I'd say you should.

Sonic Adventure 2 was probably one of the last great games on the Dreamcast, I'm glad it's now on the Gamecube. The Dreamcast version was amazing and I'm sure the Gamecube will be even better. While the story mode may not be untouched the multi-player mode has been totally revamped. With new characters, modes, and a new mini game you can't go wrong. And of course playing the game from a new angle is great as well. You can now finally be able to play as "evil" characters. The storyline, gameplay, and fun are all real great and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is a definite buy.

Sonic has finnaly come to the Nintendo gamecube and with a smash. This game has ublievable graphic and gret gameplay. If you are looking for a freat adventure game for the beginning of this year get this one. The storyline is great and the cut scenes are amazing. Included in this great game are 2 player games that will let you play with your friends. You can race, fight it mech robots and raise little creatures called Chao and then race them. This game is a must have for this system(or any system). There are many many missions. There are different types of levels. Sonic and Shadow levels are very fast down hill levels(like in the old sonic games except MUCH BETTER graphics) Tails and Eggman(Robotnik)levels are in these walkers and you have to blast your way to the end of the level. Knucles and Rouge(She is new to the sonic games)levels are treasure hunting levels. For instance you have to find three parts of the master emerald.

Chao are very fun. You have to raise them. You feed them fruit small animals to raise their levels in different categories. They growup not if you feed them alot but if you spend alot of time in the chao gardens with them. There are 2 secret chao gardens but I don't want to give it away. There is a Chao Kindergarten with five different rooms. A classroom, a fortune teller(but she just names your Chao),Black Market where you buy stuff, A doctor, and the principals office where he gives you tips on how to raise Chao. You can either have Neutral Chao Hero Chao, or Dark Chao. To get Hero Chao spend alot of time with it with good characters. Buy hero fruit for it. To get a dark Chao do the opposit,Spend alot of time with it with Dark Characters, feed it alot of Dark fruit, and bully it.
Now 2p mode is very fun. In the beggining you have a couple of games(such as racing, Shooting, treasure hunting)but as you progress through the game you get better games.
Over all this is definetly worth every penny. It has it all...strategy, adventure, and the very fun 2p party game fun. This is the best gamecube game ever! Even better than it's Dreamcast predeccesor. BUY THIS GAME!!!

Wonderful, but missing some things from the 1st one....

I love Sonic Adventure 2. It is a wonderful game. It is exciting, and I like playing on the hero and dark side. It lets you see the diffent sides of the characters. The Chao Garden is greatly inproved from the fist Sonic Adventure. They can be dark chaos or hero chaos. You can buy things, too, and put them in Kindergarden. The Cinema scenes are very well done, showing flashbacks and such. The story is a little weak, but suits me fine. The multiplayer is good, but I don't think Sonic Games are geared towards that. The soundtrack is annoying, and not NEARLY as good as the first Sonic Adventure.
The reason I only gave it four stars is because it is strictly action; it is no longer an adventure game like Sonic was all about. In SA1 for Dreamcast, you explored the whole place, and you chose were you wanted to go. I loved traveling on the train and such, and interacting with people. The soundtrack was haunting. You get to decide which of the great levels you go to, instead of them being chosen for you (escept for stage select). When they do SA3, I just hope they let you do the exploring.

Things never are quite as you remember them.

I loved Sonic back in the days of the 2d side scroller. But now that Sonic is in 3d I just dont enjoy him as much. Besides that there are a few other things that take away from the game:

1) The graphics are good but by no means great.
2) The camera angles tend to become a problem when moving around large objects.
3) During cutscenes the music sometimes gets so loud that you cant hear the characters talking.
4) Controls seem oversimplistic.

But on the other hand the Sonic/Shadow levels are fun, the chao minigame is pretty cool and the game is easy enough for younger gamers to play but challenging at the same time.

sonic is the best

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle will have you going for hours! It is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more fun than, well...........anything! 30 action stages with 150 missions, can you collect all 180 emblems? Here's my view on the game:

Fun factor: 5 (You'll never get tired of it)
Controls: 5 (4 buttons to know, and usually, you only use 2 of em!)
Graphics: 4 ½, (their lips don't move with what their talking about in the CG movies, but the in-game graphics are SWEET!)
Music: 5 (Wide variety for everyone, and it is sweet!!)
Storyline: 5 (I love it, but one question; why does Sonic always somehow end up in space?? Don't tell me you forgot about the Death Egg!!)

-OR I can put in a different way; pros and cons;-

PROS:
-Fun for everyone
-Improved music
-6 characters, plenty to choose from
-30 action stages, good luck!
-Improved graphics from Dreamcast version
-AWESOME storyline
-Chao raising is very fun to do

CONS:
-Very atrocious camera view in tight areas
-Knuckles' and Rouge's levels are VERY hard first time around
-What happened to Tails??!! I miss the friendly fox actually using his 2 tails to fly, and see him running around!!!! :'-(

OVERALL this game gets a 4.5/5. It is a great buy! Go and get it today, and/or wait until June 13 and get Sonic Adventure DX as well.
