Great Potential Lost...

First, the good stuff. Those of you who have played the first in the KOTOR series will find many of the most enjoyable features of that game enhanced and elaborated on: Many more lightsaber crystals, and the addition of three different component categories to further customize your saber, many more weaponry upgrades, a item randomizer so different items appear at any given spot in the game, lots of new and different items to play with. Also, new classes further enhance the experience, and the ability to train and influence your NPC companions really adds to the replayability of the game. It is clear the developers listened to the players of the first game, and made a real effort to enhance what the players liked best about the first game.
However, the potential of this game is destroyed by the severe bugs both in installation and playability of the game. In addition, evidence in the game files itself have indicated the game has been severely truncated by time limitations imposed on the game programmers (Obsidian) by LucasArts. The ending feels rushed and falls flat, with none of the gratifying payoff of the first game. Many plot allusions and outright plot thread chop-offs haunt the game, leaving many questions unanswered and plot threads unexplored.
All in all, this game is a prime example of potential unrealized. My advice is to wait until this game hits the bargain racks, or at least until a much-delayed patch is finally released.
horrible flaws!!!

This game is horrible. You will spend half of your time playing it restarting the game and trying to figure out what is wrong with your copy of the game. Then you start to read the reviews by the people who bought the game and played the game for any amount of time to find out that it is the game and not your copy. There has been promise of a patch to fix the problem from the development team since the end of february. Although the game is a lot of fun I would definately wait until the problems have been fixed with the patches.
Underrated but Unfinished Sequel

First of all, let's get what everyone else is saying out of the way: "The Sith Lords" is not as good of a game as the original "Knights of the Old Republic." However, I just can't dismiss it outright as many fans seem to have done.
This is because there are many things about "The Sith Lords" that I like better than its predecessor. It keeps the original's addictive gameplay and adds many elements to it, such as the ability to influence the Light/Dark side alignment of your companions. It's also a longer game than the original, and gives your Jedi the ability to reach Level 30, meaning by the end of the game you will be a Jedi God compared to your character in the original.
Then, there's the story itself, which is much more deep and complex than the storyline of the first game. In this game, a dark atmosphere oozes from every frame, much like the film "The Empire Strikes Back" (this is true even if you're a Light Side character). The serene, beautiful grassland world that was Dantooine is returned to here, but is instead a gray swampland infested with insects and filled with rubble. Other worlds you'll visit are the decaying city-world of Nar Shaada and the ruined Sith world of Korriban. Even the game's much-maligned ending is kind of cool from a dialogue perspective, and is also open-ended (i.e. unfinished) enough to leave you longing for the next game. The music in "The Sith Lords"- which I don't notice in most games- is beautiful, especially on the Dantooine scenes.
On top of that, there are some great new characters in the game, most notably Kreia. A powerful woman that is your mentor throughout the game, she is neither a Light nor Dark Side follower, and you will have fascinating conversations with her throughout. The actress that plays her voice gave the best performance yet in these games.
It is admittedly kind of infuriating how many flaws this game has, since I mostly like it better than the original game. It will often crash for no reason on my XBox, especially on Korriban. People have complained about there being a lot of quests you can't finish, though I've only noticed a couple of these. While the voice acting is mostly great, some characters- like Bao-Dur and Handmaiden- fall a little flat. Then there's that ending. Even though I defended it earlier, it feels more than a little rushed and incomplete, and the game's designers freely admit they had to condense it in order to make the game's release date (stupid game marketers).
"The Sith Lords" is a very good game, but it could have been a great one. I understand why a lot of people were disappointed with it, but the people giving it one star either hated the first game (since the gameplay's very similar) or are just trying to make a point. This is still an enjoyable and fascinating game. Let's hope that if there is a "KOTR III" that the game designers actually are able to finish it properly.
Wait for this to be half-price.

I was a huge fan of KOTOR1. Its gameplay and graphics were decent, but what really set it apart was its story. I felt its storyline was far superior to most movies, a feat only a couple of games over the years have been able to match (Planescape:Torment, etc...) It also had the single greatest gameplay balance EVER. I made it through the endgame on one life without reloading, but I ALMOST died numerous times. It was the perfect combination of climax, story and suspense.
So I pre-ordered KOTOR2 and was really quite happy with the first half of the game. This was true even though the play seemed unbalanced. I don't think I was driven to half-strength until half-way through. I NEVER had to reload except after a game crash. I only had the fear of dying in two battles the entire game, even against the first two of the vaunted sith lords.
Then it happened. The plot simply stopped. Plot threads were unexplained. Holes were the size of small planets developed. As I proceeded through the endgame I asked, "What the ****?" When I finished I stared at the screen in disbelief as the credits flowed past.
This game has some good parts, but is not worth full price. Wait a year or so and buy it at half-price, and then only if you are a fan of the first. I'm not sure what happened to this game, but the storyline and game balance (the KEY parts of the first game's success) are simply not here.

The Republic is on the brink of collapse. Jedi and Sith no longer are seperate in the eyes of the galaxy. You are bonded to a mentor and sense she has an agenda but exactly what that agenda is, you cannot clearly see. Finally, you discover you are prey in the sights of bounty hunters and a new type of Sith.
Then the game freezes and you reload with a whispered promise to yourself to save more often.
Slowly the story unfolds before you. Slowly because if you don't pick exactly the right responses you do not gain influence with one of the many NPCs that will join your group. And without enough influence, you could miss bits of the interactions and information that moves the plot along. Then the game freezes and you reload whispering a word of thanks that you remembered to save often.
Your journey will take you to several planets, all very nicely rendered. Some of the background scenery I found almost breathtaking. During your trek through the galaxy you will find areas that are unaccessable. Not because of rockslides or blaster damage, but because they were cut so the game could be shipped for the Christmas Shopping Season.
You will experience a sense of power as you slice and dice through weak opponents with your overpowered Jedi/Sith character.Game balance was not a concern of the publisher because the game had to be shipped for the holiday buying season and really, what customer cares about game balance anyway?
However, this sense of invulnerability will quickly give way to the frustrations borne of plot inconsistencies, seemingly random dialog, aliens that repeat the same sounds, well, repeatedly, and subquests that can never be completed. Then the game freezes and you reload while wondering why you expected this game to be as good as Knights of the Old Republic 1.
The game really falls apart when your character reaches the final planet. It would take volumes to describe the ridiculous sequences and half hearted attempt to finish what should have been an epic journey perhaps not unlike the climax of Baldur's Gate II.
In many ways this game is an insult to the gamers that laid out the money with the expectations that KotOR2 would live up and maybe even surpass KotOR1. Sadly, I cannot even consider this game worth the title KotOR1.5. The overall two star rating reflects the bugs, plot holes, dropped areas that are still mentioned in the game, transistion freezes, meaningless exchanges between NPCs, overly difficult influnces system (at times), and a questing system that could not have been Quality Tested before KotOR2 was rushed out the door.
In fairness, there are some wonderful sequences in the game and it is, for the most part, playable as is. However the good points of the game are seriously marred by the bad. LucasArts owes each person that bought KotOR2 an apology.

I fell in love with KOTOR I, and I am not a gamer! But I do love the whole Star Wars universe. While I have played a lot of the SW games, I have to admit I haven't enjoyed many of them very much.
KOTOR I however is a fabulous game. The graphics were great, the story line compelling, you didn't often find yourself wandering around at a loss for what to do and the controls were "tight". The story was so compelling that you found yourself playing it for hours just to find out what happens next, as there is always a twist...
I eagerly awaited KOTOR II and was one of the first to buy it. KOTOR II however is a big let down. The story line is very weak, confusing at times and the ending is just plain terrible. Who did they get to write this? Somebody who doesn't have a tenth of the ability of the original writer. When I got to the ending I just stared at the screen in huge disappointment - I had spent how many hours to get that?! My daughter who was also playing along was so disgusted she never did finish it and my son, just said forget it and never did play it.
That said the game play itself was good, and they have made some refinements in the mechanics of the game that make sense and do improve the overall game experience. However the game control is "loose". Sorry I can't make it clearer than that so its harder to get your character to the exact point you want. The graphics are not as crisp nor do they have as full colour.
So overall I have to say I was very disappointed with this game, and I wouldn't recomend it......:-(
KotOR II is only 75 Percent complete

I brought Knights of the Old Republic 2 The Sith Lords a couple of weeks ago. I have played all the way through, so I know what I am talking about.
KotOR II is only 75 Percent complete. The first 3 quarters of the game are mostly complete except for a few cut-scenes. But after you return to the rebuild Jedi Base on Dantooine, the game completely fall apart, none of the side characters' stories are completed and the end is less an ending and more of a slap in the face for the person who playing the game.
LucasArts forced Obsidian to release the game incomplete to meet the christmas rush for X-box. Then two months later, they cut even more stuff out of the game from the PC version of KotOR II, like the incomplete HK-50 level side-quest which was included the X-box version of KotoR II game.
The good, the game interface is much better than KotOR I.
The bad, programming bugs caused by the incompleteness of the game and the game itself is missing the last 25 Percent of itself.
There is a petition by fans to have LucasArts and Obsidian finish the game and release in either a content patch, expansion pack or a directors cut of the game. The petition was started less than a month ago and is currently at 5404 signatures.
I would hold off on buying this game until these matters are settled. But Amazon here has one of the best deals for the KotOR II game online, so I would buy from here when these matters are settled.
To sum up. I give the Knights of the Old Republic 2 The Sith Lords game 2 Stars
A star off for the game being 25 percent incomplete.
A star off for the game bugs.
And a star off for LucasArts greed and foolishness in burning their costumer base with this incomplete game.
not as much fun as the first, and way way buggy

i loved the first knights of the old republic, and it was the best game of 2003. unfortunately so far this one is pretty boring. but the biggest problem: bugs. the game is so buggy at times it is almost not even worth playing. i crashed to desktop a couple of times. for some reason 'walls' will just appear out of nowhere; they are just graphics glitches and you can run through them but ruin the look of the game. the worst bug is a serious graphics glitch where things (like a plane surface, or 'ropes') just come out of your head. yep that's right out of your head; like the 'walls' they are graphics glitches but it's a big pain when you can't see anything (in combat or otherwise) because some giant wall graphic is coming at a 45 degree angle out of your head obscuring half the screen. buyer beware: it's better to wait a couple of months for this game to be completed, at current time the developers must have rushed it out because it is in horrible shape. most games' betas aren't this buggy.
A Great Game and a Great Letdown

This game is clearly a sequel. But as a sequel to a truly amazing game, I expected it to be good. And it was, briefly.
The gameplay is basically the same as the original KotOR, with a few new additions. There were new forcepowers, new feats, and the fancy new influence system. Depending on your actions, party members will be more or less influenced by you, and can become evil, or good. Also, as the 'last of the Jedi' through your actions, you can train party members to become Jedi as well.
The huge disappointment is in the plot. It starts out alright, but just cuts off. It seems as if they didn't finish the game in time, and just to get it onto the shelves, they half-assed the very end of the game. It is a great letdown to what could have been a great game.
A true disapointment

While its true that there were some improvments in the game, it was shipped in a unfinished state. Its plauged with bugs, so many that its difficult to play to the end. I would not buy this game, the storyline is ok, but its not worth the frustration you will face.
