Awesome Game

I loved this game. This was only the second RPG that I have ever played, and it was amazing. Safe for most ages, and incredibly well written. I can't wait to play the second one.

George Lucas, are you taking notes?

Bioware is perhaps one of the best (if not the best) RPG creators in the world, something you already know if you've ever played any of the Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, or Neverwinter Nights titles. When I heard that they were going to do a Star Wars game, I knew immediately that it would be a winner. And indeed it is--it's a cut above the prequels that make us long-time Star Wars cringe, with their flimsy plots, flimsier dialogue, and CG overkill. (And yet we still queue up for midnight showings, sporting cloaks and lightsabers, stubbornly hoping for better. I'll see y'all in May.)

But I digress. You don't have to be a veteran RPG player or a crazy Star Wars devotee to appreciate this game. The graphics are quite good in my opinion, and gameplay rarely lagged or stuttered on my rapidly aging, circa 2000 machine. The voice acting work is nothing short of incredible--all the dialogue in the game is spoken, much of it by professional actors! You might even grow a little attached to your traveling companions. Best of all, it's two games in one, the outcome depending on whether you adhere to the light or dark side of the Force. And the controls are quite easy to learn. Once you've got the basics down, you'll be wielding that lightsaber like Obi-Wan or Darth Maul. Yes, you can have a double-bladed saber if you'd like. Or one in each hand. Or do your best Han Solo or Boba Fett and have at it with blaster pistols (not a recommended course of action later in the game, since higher-level Jedi/Sith are very good at blast deflection). It's up to you!

It's great as an RPG, a more than worthy addition to the Star Wars franchise, and perhaps one of the best computer games of all time. Just get it!

Too many bugs

This game would be a lot more fun if it did not have so many bugs. It crashes and locks badly. Maybe when a new patch comes out it will be playable.

My favorite game of the year, of the last 3 years!

Well, after quite a few long nights of playing Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), it is finished. Upon completing this incredible roleplaying game I felt a great sense of satisfaction, but also a pang of sadness. This game has such an incredible story, characters, plot twists, and atmosphere,it made me realize how awful the last 2 star wars movies are in comparison. There are many jaded Star Wars fans who will never experience this game, and will be missing out on an incredible experience. It is sad, because if George Lucas had any credibility left, he would turn this into a movie. It could even be made into a new trilogy.

This game takes place thousands of years before the Star Wars universe observed in the movies. Fear not: There are many familiar places and aliens that you still enjoy the Star Wars universe. There are plenty of reviews already on this game already, and you should believe all of them. The game, my friend, is indeed as good as everyone praises it to be. There is little I can add that will not sound repetitive.

So here are a couple of things to consider about this game:
1. The game is true to the Star Wars setting, but Bioware is bold enough to form its own version, it's own personality, of this setting.
2. The voice acting is superb for this game. Not only is the dialogue excellent, the voices are distinct, a perfect match for each character, well-acted, and unique for each species. The only drawback is some alien dialogues you will notice are repeated after a while, or proceed longer than the script they are describing. (Why does a Wookie take 6 seconds to say goodbye?) Otherwise, it is by far the best voice-acting I have ever heard in a game.
3. The graphics and landscapes are gorgeous. However, make sure you have the latest video drivers for this game. I had to download my latest versions to play the game. Also, some generic character faces are repeated after awhile. All your party members, and particularly important characters in the game, however, have their own models. So do not fret.
4. Although the interface is excellent, the inventory system is a bit lacking. Your character carries EVERYTHING from the first item he picks up.
5. Most of the music is new, but fits as well for this game as the John Williams scores do for the movies.
6. There are so many options and dialogue choices to select, and almost all of them have direct effects in the plot. Many games will allow you to say 3 different things, but all lead to the same result. Not here. How you speak or respond to someone can have dramatically different results.
7. The ability to choose from 2 equally-satisfying light and dark side paths, with the plot allowing the opportunity to switch from one to the other in the game based on your choices, adds a lot of replayability to this game. Just like there is nobody who's seen Star Wars once, I defy anyone to play this game just once through and then shelf it.

This game is my second favorite game of all time, (Baldur's Gate 2 will always be my first choice.) and is easily the best game I've played all year, and last year, and the year before that. And based on the number Game of the Year awards this game is winning, I am not alone in this opinion.

Beats every other Star Wars game out there

This is just a great quality game. while i've never really been a fan of RPG's before, because i prefer to hack and slash the way i want too, this game changed my mind. i can't find one fault in this game. the graphics are incredible, the way they show the features of creatures, humans, and the environment beautifully. the dialogue is clear and Darth Malak's harsh, low, voice adds a nice touch. while i am a huge fan of lightsaber fighting, this game doesn't focus on that as much. you don't have to be a jedi, you could be a scoundrel like Han Solo. i also liked the freedom they gave you in the game where you can do little side missions for people, go from planet to planet in any order you want. it was nice not to have set levels. i also thought it was cool and interesting how they didn't focus on the plot from the movies, but instead shows you other aspects in the star wars universe. by far though, the best feature of the game is the ability to choose from the light side and the dark side. i love being mean to people and becoming a big, bad sith dude. so, if your just a person who likes to play video games, this is a must-buy.

Like playing a fantastic movie- lives up to the hype!

This game is hands-down one of the 5 best games I've ever played (and I've played scores of games). The production values, especially the voice-acting, are simply astounding. More importantly, Bioware has constructed a world and story that truly feel like they have captured the essence of what made the original trilogy great. Even the writing, of which there is a lot, is crisp and witty. All of the main characters have laugh out loud funny moments, and you will end up really liking most of them by the end of the journey. I estimate I've got about 5 hours of play time left in the game, but I've already started thinking about the changes I want to make when I play it for a second time. Highly recommended if you have ANY interest in Star Wars, or RPG's. This is one of the rare games that lives up to the hype!

A perfect mix of BioWare and LucasArts

This great RPG for X-Box and PC is the perfect combining of two great games, BioWare's Morrowind and LucasArts' Jedi Knight. this game has a whole new storyline that takes place 4,000 years before Episode I. In the game, you can make many choices for your character: Gender (Male/Female), Class (Soldier/Scout/Scoundrel and later in game Jedi Guardian/Sentinel/Consular), Specialty weapons (Melee/Ranged), Side (Dark/Light). (Warning: spoilers) The game begins with your ship, the Endar Spire, crashing through the atmosphere of Taris, an outer-rim city world, as the Sith attack it. You must go through the Endar Spire with a teammate to rescue the Jedi Padawan, Bastila, who's Battle Meditation is the sole thing that can save the Republic. You and he get to the Bridge, and find she has already left. You go toward the escape pod, when a Dark Jedi attacks. Your friend takes his vibroblade against the Lightsaber and fights the Dark Jedi as you escape, with Carth Onasi, in an escape pod to the surface.

kortor is the best game. The graphics are great and I think that everybody should buy this game. who ever says that they have a good computer and the game wont play is crazy! I got an XP with a whole lot of games on it andit still works fine. I can't believe that they only allow 3 charators in your party. I am amazed that the charators have feeling s in a way and it is so realistic. In short, BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!

This game takes the fun and statistical awareness of Dungeouns and Dragons, and the brillience of Lucas's Star Wars franchise and molds them into a cohesive, enthrawling and entangling web of a story...the you get to participate in. The experience is awesome and shold be played by all geanra of gammers just for the expereince. Lets hope KOTOR II has half of the great qualities of the first.

Play this game if you like Star Wars, and/or immersive roleplaying games that actually have a good story line. I've played the game twice so far and it's been a different experience each time. Hint - talk to the characters in your 'team' as much as you can, and see what unfolds. Backstories and main plot are awesome, scenery is beautiful.
