Horrible

I had high hopes for this game and was really looking forward to playing it. Unfortunately, from the moment I loaded it to the last cut scene (which I just viewed ten minutes ago), this game has been nothing but a disappointment.

From a technical perspective, it's simply horrible. I have a fairly high-end machine (Dell Inspiron running at 3+ ghz, 2 gigs RAM, 9800 Radeon video card, etc.) and I still experienced difficulties; there were lag issues, video did not play properly and CONSTANT crashes.

On the surface, the gameplay would seem to have potential: your affiliation and actions--light or dark--affects the storyline of the game. Unfortunately, it really doesn't. Only the most superficial story arcs are affected by what you do. Some powers and weapons are light-side or dark-side specific, but you rarely need to use them (if at all) so it really doesn't matter what side you choose. Related to that, the game is very linear and must be completed in a certain way in most instances.

Some miscellaneous rants:
(1) Your player is limited to running and looking in a single plane: no jumping, crouching, looking up, looking down.
(2) The weapons upgrade system is incomprehensible and it's impossible to tell what, if any, effect it has on your arsenal.
(3) Keeping track of your inventory (which can get huge--another goofy design choice) is cumbersome.
(4) The battle system is ridiculous: it's turn based and totally artificial.

Unfortunately, I could go on, but I think you get the picture. At $5.00 I might try it, but don't pay a penny more.

Best RPG ever???

As someone who has enjoyed many RPGs over the past 20 years, I had to see what all the hoopla was bout. Well, after two days of playing this game I'm B O R E D! If you are a hug starwars fan then this might be the game for you, but if not, I would recoment skipping this game.

First off, the A.I. is just plain DUMB! When you are in a place with lots of people walking around and you are talking to a character watch the people in the background trying to figure out a way around you. Most of the time it results in two characters moving back and forth in the same direction trying to get around each other. Also, my secondary characters tend to get in the way more often than not. I've had characters with blasters run right up to an enemy and then stand there and do nothing.

Buggy! I got stuck to my wookie! I walked up to him and couldn't get around him, couldn't move back the way I had come from, in fact, couldn't move at all! The only way I was finally able to move was to switch to my wookie and move him then switch back. Note that I was never actually touching the other character. I've also had several instances where I get stuck trying to go around other characters and have to backtrack a bit then go very wide around them. Also, I've had several sequences/cut scenes replay multiple times.

Fighting is as involved as clicking on the enemy. That's about it.

Overal this game is very... well, boring. It's sort of the Episode 1 of RPG games. It looks like it could be fun, but it sort of misses in every way possible.

One heck of a ride!

What makes Knights of the Old Republic outstanding, in my opinion, is the telling of one of the most amazing stories that has ever graced a gaming industry. It is so good that Star Wars: Episode 1 and 2 paled in comparison.

A great story is essential but if it is not fun, then it will end up being just a great movie and not video games. Knights, however, did not disappoint. It offers 30 hours of non-stop computer gaming goodness! Do yourself a favour and get the game and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime in that galaxy far, far away.

Great RPG and does the star wars name proud

I bought this version to see how it plays vs the xbox version. Well the advantages of the PC are of course you can turn up the graphics if your computer can handle it. I think the xbox version is better in all honesty but it's still great on PC. The battle system is a quasi real time where you can put all you attacks in a box and can pause at any time. It also has a great story and at the end you'll really be glad you got this game
graphics-8/10 depending on your system specs
story- 9/10 one of the best I've ever seen
gameplay- 7/10 I liked the xbox version better but its ok
sound-8/10 what you would expect for star wars with orchestral sound but nothing that will make you remember it
In closing I would recommend getting it for the xbox if you have one but if you dont you wont regret buying this game with its great story and fighting.

I enjoyed this game only slightly more than The Sith Lords due to the story being tighter. More depth and less cheese are my only demands should a part 3 be made.

Geekdom at its best...

There is only one thing that any self respecting geek loves more than Dungeons and Dragons and that is Star Wars. This game is the marriage of those two wonderful geeky things. It is a flawless game.

This Game Single Handedly Brought my interest back to the franchise. In a way that nothing has since the Wonderful Timothy Zahn Books of the early 90's.
Thia Game has great depth in Story, Character, And Gameplay. And the best plot twist in a game I have EVER seen! A twist IMHO worthy of the CLASSIC Star Wars Trilogy. I Cannot recomend this game more Highly!
And I PRAY Bioware & Lucas Arts Gives us a Sequal!

Good game, looking forward to the sequel

I had read some very favorable reviews of this game before I bought it, and had heard so many good things about it, but when I finally bought it I was actually a little...disappointed. I found it to be a bit slow at the beginning, but the game does pick up and I found it to be quite enjoyable as it progressed. The role-playing aspect is a lot of fun, and the main characters are very interesting and well-(voice) acted. Another review has stated that he had some issues with bugs and the game crashing, but I don't think I encountered a single problem with the game and I've played it to its completion. Recommended if you are a Star Wars fan and like role-playing games.

This game is awesome and lives up to all the praise it has received from the various game magazines. All I can really add to all of the previous reviews is this. If you are looking for a good way to kill 2 or 3 entire days this is your answer. If you can't set the time aside to play through the entire game in one sitting don't worry, this game is as easy to play 30 minutes at a time as it is to play 3 days at a time. This is the game for any Star Wars Fan. The only thing that I can say that is negative about this game is I got so involved that I couldn't stop.

My favourite game of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I said this is my favourite game of all time and it is for many reasons. The first reason is the story it features the best story in a game with lots of twists and turns. The 2nd is that the game has charachters that I acturally cared about from bastila to Juhani and even carth, I cared so much about the charachters that I didn't even play the dark side story the first time because I didn't want anything bad to happen to them. The combat system is also incredibly well done it is very accessible, after all this is the first RPG I ever played even if Tommy (dumbass) Tallarico is to dumb to understand it, man he is stupid. Another GREAT thing about this game is the dark side/light side story lines that I mentioned before with which in certain conversations you can make different choices which will advance you to being the ultimate good to the ultimate evil in the galaxy both stories are excellent since I don't want to give anything away so I won't say anything about it. Another AWESOME aspect of this game is each of the planets you visit during your journey as either saint or sinner is unique and each has it's own unique problems you can fix or foster to your heart's delight. There is only one minor flaw and I stress term minor in this amazing game is the graphics aren't great they're not bad but they aren't great as say Jade Empire another Bioware classic. Even if you don't like star wars (I do) you still might get a kick out of 2003's game of the year, and maybe it not as good but still above average sequel the Sith Lords.
