Original gameplay, but it gets old really fast

This new title from the makers of the Zelda and Link series is quite original. Creating an army of little plant people that fight the local flora and fauna is a hard concept to screw up. But, they still managed to do it. The puzzles in this game are mind-boggling and this game's difficult exists on many levels. This isn't where it goes wrong though. The gameplay has no variety. Eventually, fighting the local grub dogs and seeing your precious Pikmin get pulverized gets old really fast. Also, your Pikmin don't seem to follow the controls and commit suicide regularly. The graphics are somewhat poor, considering that the cube has to animate hundreds of objects, but the scenery is nondescript and the music sounds like BAD cartoon music. With the same movie sequences shown over and over at the beginning and end of a level gets very boring. Supposedly interesting logs of your travels, trials, and tribulations seem to be written by a kindergartener. The character you are trying to save is so stupid, ugly, and simple that the first time through I purposely lost just to see the end of him. I strongly caution the purchase of this game.

Not as fun as I thought it would be

Pikmin is fun at first. But after the first couple of days it gets very hard. You have to find one spaceship part per day or you'll lose the whole game. There are 30 spaceship parts to find in 30 days. You can lose all your Pikmin trying to get one part. You can also lose your Pikmin by getting them eaten by monsters. The first part that I liked the most was finding all the different colors of Pikmin. Of course, you have to go to the first level to find the first color, the second level to find the second color and the third level to find the third color. You only have one Pikmin in the beginning, so you better be careful because if you kill him before you make more of him you won't have any more of that color. Be careful because you can also waste a day by hurting Olimar the space person so much that he has to go back to his spaceship without getting a part.

I haven't won the game myself. I've only gotten to the fourth level. Once you find the radar it gets a little easier because you can find parts, but you sometimes have to blow up walls or knock down walls and that can take forever. So get as many Pikmin as you can, but leave some in the ground to grow flowers. So if you still want to try it anyway, good luck!

Goofy, yet addictive

I originally gound the premise of this game really stupid. As soon as i started playing it though it was kind of fun.
Its not the kind of game you would play non-stop for hours every day like GTA3, but its not the kind in which you put it in the drawer and only take it out if you want to sell it on ebay.
The subject matter is appropriate for small children, but the somewhat complex gameplay is appropriate for a much older audience. Overall its a good game to play if you are a strategy game fan but not if you get frustrated easily.

The best game since Mario

pikmin has gotta b the greatest game, but the reason for 4 stars overall is because its difficult. if u don't like games that take awhile to conquer, this is not the game 4 u. however, it is so much fun. in this game, u r captain omar who is stranded on an alien planet surrounded by the toxic gas oxygen, and u only have 30 days 2 find all your ship parts with the help of the strange natives that live there, called pikmin. there r 3 types: red, which u find first, yellow, with big ears, and blue, which u find in the third level, the forest navel. all of them have different strenghts and weaknesses, and *spoiler*-red=fire, yellow=air, and blu=water. 2 b sure, this game has a lot of exploring, conquering, and a lot of butt-kicking. did i mention there r giant killer ladybugs?

I Fail to Be Very Impressed...

I recently purchased the game Pikmin for the Gamecube. It coming from Mr. Miyamoto, responsible for both Mario and Zelda, I figured Pikmin would be a hit. It's more or less a love it or leave it game. If you love it, chances are you're going to love it all the way through. If you moderately or plain dislike it, then chances are it's going to stay that way.

It is fun to begin with, but it will turn rather stale. The music isn't too much varied, but it's still pretty good. The games concept is simple: Help the main character to get his ship pieces back by using Pikmin. There are 3 types, each with different abilities, and they're none of bright I should add.
It's a combination of Lemmings and The Lost Vikings, two older games. It's labeled as strategy, and that is half true, but most of it is just brain numbing beat the clock gaming. There's a time limit, and it's none too long, plan on feelings rushed.
My other problem was that I didn't see too much strategy involved, it just got unbearably tedious, and I found myself pressing the reset button every 15 minutes.

To sum it up, not that bad of a game, there are worse ones out there, but it could use some improvements. I hope that if there's to be a sequel, it will be done right.

Over and over again....and again...and again!!!

This game is cool while you start playing it. But once you get inside of it, you will find out that the game has no new things (only new color pikmins). Every level is the same thing: collect ship parts. The only thing that varies per level are the bad guys. I would consider it more of a rental than a buy. ONLY TRUE STRADEGY FANS WILL ENJOY IT!!

Pikmin has several elements that make it annoying to play

The concept of the game was interesting at first, but it soon became incredibly annoying to play. Camera angles are terrible, you have to watch the same cut scene every night, and the short length of the days are more annoying than they are challenging. The implementation should have been much better than it was. The only good thing about this game is the graphics.

Boring!

Honestly, the only good part about this game is the graphics.

The story: Some bald, fat guy is flying around in a spaceship and he gets hit by an astroid, then he lands on some weird planet and discovers Pikmin. Parts of the spaceship are scattered around the world and the guy decides to make the Pikmin help him. So, the Pikmin help him and he flies away like the happy little fat guy he is.

Oh, but Nintendo decides that leaving it there would make things too easy. So, they decide to throw in a time limit... what fun! *sarcasm* You have 30 "days" to get 30 parts and the day goes by in about 15 minutes. Ah, Nintendo, what a big mistake that was. You're forcing players to rush through the game, instead of just enjoying it. I wouldn't mind this so much if the time limit was longer, though. Because, let's not forget, you made the parts darn near IMPOSSIBLE to find!

And about the Pikmin... they die too easily, for one thing. I mean, if they get touched by an enemy... they're dead. If they touch water... they're dead. If you leave the planet to fly around in your spaceship for a night and you leave some Pikmin behind... they're dead. It's funny how we're supposed to depend on these little weaklings to defend us against giant... mushroom... dog things... that want to eat us.

In conclusion... If you want to be bored, this is the game for you. If you're looking for a game that is actually entertaining, look elsewhere... Because this probably wont satisfy you.

This game is not worth playing.

I heard this game was alot of fun, but to be safe I rented it. Man am I glad I did because Its not what they say it is. The game was mildly entertaining at first but after I played it awhile it got boring. Im 15 and it's not that it's to easy but the gameplay is dumb. The gameplay is what makes a game worth playing so why bore yourself with this game.
