Great Game - Previous Reviews Are WRONG

I have played this game for months and am enjoying it immensely. Plenty to do, plenty of professions, plenty of content, many quests, and soon to come . . . Jump To Light Speed. I don't know where the previous folks got their impressions from . . .unless they didn't give the game a chance. There is a steep learning curve. Once you get over that, it's great. The other possibility is that they are anti-social. A large part of this game's enjoyment comes from assistance of guild members. Kind of like being in a big (or small, your preference) club. Lots of folks helping each other out with game tips, credits, loot, killing, you name it. . .Good Luck and Enjoy!

If the game ever gets released....

I am sure this game will have its bad qualities along with its great ones, but to when will the people who were not brought into the beta get to see it? it has missed 2 major release dates and has features in the game constantly dropped. I think they were right about the april 15th release date, but mistakenly put 2003 instead of 2005

I have enjoyed beta testing SWG for the last two months and I can hardly wait for it to go live. It is unlike any MMORG I have ever played. As a Ultima Online junkie for the past 4 years I did not think I would play another online game. I have since quit UO and have dived into the Star Wars realm. The music truly is so exciting as you traverse vast landscapes in search of something to kill. And of course occasionally becoming incapacitated by a lair of large Worts. Traveling to different planets, swimming on Corellia, raiding a town of nomads, and dancing in a cantina makes this online world a gamers dream.

The NDA has now been lifted and I can say I have been playing this game for the past couple of months and it is a lot of fun.

Like all multiplayer online games there is limited content and a few bugs at the start and I personally think they should have waited longer before going live with the game.

With that said, even if you are online the very first day you will have a great time. The graphics are amazing and it really feels like you are in a star wars movie.

I started in Bestine on the planet Tatooine and there are stormtroopers walking around, rebels (players) sometimes attack the town, people are going out hunting, crafting clothes weapons or armor, medics are healing the wounded etc.

You can head out across the desert in search of Jabba the Hutt's palace (but watch out for aggressive animals and Sand People on the way) and after completing some missions you can get into the throne room and see Jabba himself.

Maybe you can get a hunting party together of 20 experienced marksmen and go out hunting the Krayt Dragon, but be careful, you may not all come back alive.

Not interested in fighting: Hang out in the cantina and join a band or dance troop, go to the medical center and heal some wounded, or just stand in the main square and chat.

Want to build something: Become an artisan and work up towards being an Architech, a Droid Engineer, a Tailor or a Chef, building items and selling them to other players.

Thats just one planet, and there are 9 other to explore: Head to Endor and hunt Ewoks (careful they pack a punch), explore Naboo and meet the Gungans, or head out in search of the Emperor's Retreat where you might come face to face with Darth Vader!.

All in all a great game that will keep you immersed for months as they add new content and features.

Star Wars Galaxies is a newly (almost) released MMORPG that clearly blows all others out of the water. Starting from a video engine they built themselves from the ground coding up, to the almost-realistic graphics and shadowing textures that make you awe in its sight. This game is limitless in its scope and it is meant to do whatever you want..you can remain neutral, and build droids for a living, customize them and name them whatever you want, or fill them full of c-4 and send them at an imperial squadron if you want to be hostile. Be a dancer or hairstylist and hang out at the cantinas or your own shop and entertain the whole day. Be a miner and dig underground finding precious metals and other things to sell to craftsman at the highest bidder. Be a bounty hunter and travel to any of the vastly seperated and large planets and hunt NPC's and real-life PC's for a living. It doesnt end there. In the beginning there are over 1,500 custimizations, starting from 500 different shades of lipstick and eye color (A female delight) or develop facial hair, choose your hair length and color, make yourself seem old and have wrinkles, and much more. Don't let me stop you, go to [website] and see for yourself. (And yes, to the above review, there is DSL for 15.00$ platinum service from Juno.)

If you like real RPGs you'll Love this game if not...

If you like Real indepth RPGs with no real endgame then you will totally Love this game. If you are looking for CounterStrick in the Star Wars Universe you'll not get it. This is an RGP not a FPS. However, the upcoming Space Expantion is going to be a Combate Flight Sim and with RGP eliments and not a Full RPG. However, You will have to play the "ground game" for a while befor you can FULLY enjoy space so you should go in prepaired for that. Lastly, you must work with others to enjoy this game it is ment to be a fully social experiance. From the crafters being dependant on fighters for supplies and sales to Fighters being dependant on ALL non-Combate Profs to be fully proficant, including Entertainers for Battle Fatuge, Mind wound healing to Medics for Action, Heath wound heals, To Weopons/Armor Smiths to Image Desingers (for a New look to your toon, and to Migrate your HAM bar)

Bugs, Bugs, and More Bugs

This is a great game crippled by game altering bugs. I spent two months putting up with them and finding ways to work around them, then finally one came I had no way around. After not being able to play for a week due to it, I cancelled.

This game needed at least six months to a year more of beta. It's unplayable right now.

do yourself a favor and wait

lack of content makes this game a real bore to play after 1 or 2 months. True it is an amazing experience at first but that will wear off quickly. Do yourself a favor and wait for the devs to put some actual content in the game. Don't pay for half of a game.

Good and Bad

First thing this is my second MMPOG, the first was The Sims Online. Now on to the good and bad.

Good.
Good Graphics, everything looks like Star Wars, the music, the feel, players able to make and sell goods and services, money making is pretty easy wiether you hunt and sell what you get or make things for other players and sell for credits, most players I have ran into are helpful and will answer questions, good community feel.

Bad.
Grinding as was mentioned can get boring at times, combat classes are broken, there are Master Pikemen,Master Swordsmen etc, that feels more like a fantasy game than Star Wars, such as Sonys other game Everquest,a guy walking around wielding a warhammer and killing those with blasters doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

So far I am still playing it, new players might want to wait for the space expansion to come out, that should give it a more star wars feel.

Doesn't Target the Usual MMORPG Audience

Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire divided comes off as an unusual MMORPG. It tends to attract a different crowd, which leads to the divided reviews it always receives.

Graphics - 4/5: The graphics are awesome, but you really need a high level graphics card to experience it at its fullest - as well as an overall top of the line computer so you don't lag.

Interface - 5/5: The controls are easy. Almost too easy in battles.

Sound - 5/5: For having a mass produced, horribly cheap soundcard, the sound was still beyond expected! The background music is enjoyable in the Star Wars world.

Battle System - 2/5: As someone else said, too little control in battle. Too automated to the point where a battle can become a menial task hindering your gameplay until you realize.. That IS the gameplay.

Experience System - 3/5: Logical, enjoyable, -- to the hardcore gamer. The experience system is a nightmare for the casual gamer. Since it can't please both players, it only gets a 3. (As a little background information, I'm a hardcore gamer and this system is challenging for me, but I like it. For the casual gamer, it has to be a nightmare.)

Story - 4/5: The story is excellent, well played out, and gives the user the feel that they are a part of the Star Wars Universe. Unique themed missions add to the experience, however the Points Of Interest (POI) system is rather redundant.

Overall - 4/5: Despite fallbacks when it comes to battling and the division between hardcore/casual gamers, Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided proves to have a substantial fun factor. Looking passed it's faults, there is the exhilarating excitement during faction raids and, in some cases, player city raids.

With the Space Expansion coming out soon, it's worth a try. Be careful if you're the casual gamer type. Mostly recommended for those between the casual gamer/hardcore gamer line for the most enjoyment. Check out starwarsgalaxies.com to look around and see if the game is right for you (of course, taking into consideration all points brought up beforehand).
