Yikes!

I admit I am not an expert at these types of games but I love Star Wars and I am a big fan of DAOC so I thought I would give this a try.

It's terrible. It's very hard to understand what to do and what the point is. Fights with mobs are way too long. While the graphics are great, the game play is boring and encumbered. Not an enjoyable experience. Don't waste your money unless you have a friend that can explain all the details. Not new user friendly.

filled with bugs and no one cares about fixing them

Skip this game if you are a star wars fan. There are too many play stopping bugs and vanishing items. Most of things in the game do not work. Items that give bonuses are broken and a majority of class not even playable to any reasonable extent. The skils for every class are only partially implemented. This This game really feels like a early beta game that is about 1-2 years from release. The servers still down for 1-2 hours a day, and it not even for fixing bugs, probably just unstable.

Good concept -very bad game

Like a lot of people I signed up for star wars galaxies hoping to live out my fantasy of being in the rebel alliance or being part of the empire. I was very disapointed. Many of the gaming mechanics are very off, although they did get correct some mistakes from other rpg's they really messed up on a bunch of other stuff. One thing is this game is STILL in beta, despite what the game developers might say. You are PAYING 15 dollars a month pluse a 50 dollar game to test and trial for them. The game is great for about 2 weeks if your a non-crafter. If your a crafter its great for about 2 hrs. Buyer beware. Try this game next year this time when they worked out all the bugs. Remember this does NOT include the space edition which will be another 50 when it comes out and another entire set of bugs.

Waist of time and money

Sure this game is fun at first you pay 15 bucks get 2 months before having to pay again, then it sux 15 dollars a month for a game that get so boring after th 5th week due to a lack of content, LOTS OF GRINDING i meen who wants to spen a weekend grinding taylor? There is no content whatsoever except for the theme parks which are a buch of lame stupid missions that never seem to end. ALso this game lags.... and it lags real bad...There are so many bugs, i fell like im paying for a beta, ive jsut been accpeted into the jtl beta if this sucks i am cancelling my swg account i advise every one to do the same or if you havnt got the game yet go buy a good fps like {EDITED}

Galaxies is a good game with a lot of bugs. Apparently, this isn't uncommon in the MMORPG world. As a previous reviewer said, once you master a few professions, the game itself is kind of boring. I recommend if you buy this game you find some online friends and make the most of it. The online community is the best thing going for this game. I quit the game in the end of January, and I would've quit in October if I hadn't met a few good people who made the game worthwhile. In the end I was paying to play a game I rarely logged on to, so I ended my subscription.

There are bugs, and there are many nerfs and restructurings. I understand that things must be changed, but the developers seem to weaken classes before making the weaker classes on Par with the stronger ones. That's my biggest complaint.

Good game, but only good for a few months.

Rock on baby, this game kicks some serious ...

This is awesome. U can do anything u want to do! Its like a real Star Wars world. The graphics are excellent, much better than Everquest (after Luclin expansion) and fighting is kick ... U can be a smuggler, and sneak around, killing and stealing, or u can be someone like an imperial guard and "search and destroy" Also, It's definitely worth joining up on imperial or rebels. I chose imperials, and u can go to different worlds lightspeed! U can bet on fights against creatures that are in a fighting ring, and u can push NPCs in the fighting circle and watch em die. U can also race on an assortment of vehicles such as speeder bikes, and ships like (keyword "Like") the Millineum Falcon. A definite Must have, quite possibly the best game ive ever played!

The ultimate gaming experience for any RPG gamer

This game........ I cant even describe. Its idea alone is fascinating and new. Lucasarts has really outdone itself this time. Although I have only played the beta version, this game looks very promising despite its monthy fee.For any Star Wars fan and or RPG Gamer this is a must buy.

This game rocks all other MMOPRG

This game rocks. It sets a new standard for all other MMORPG games that will be released. The gameplay is great, the community of players is friendly and helpful (most of the time) and the new XP system that they are using is enginous. I would recomend this game to anyone that wants a great game to play, and it is a steal at [a low price] a month for server charges and the such. You get the best service you could find, great explinations, me updates and downloads, and get to experince the thrill of playing in the most known Science Fiction realm in existance, the Star Wars Galaxies.

Visually stunning, amazing variety of game play.

Star Wars Galaxies: an Empire Divided (SWG) is probably the most incredible experience I've had playing a game. Having been around for some time and spending time with most consoles from the Atari 2600 and up, and being actively involved in PC gaming since the 386 was the common PC, I think that is really saying something.

SWG isn't a game in any traditional sense. This is more like a combination of Everquest, Sims Online, Alpha Centauri, and something wholly new, all given a general Star Wars theme. But that statement alone does not cover the refinement of the execution. This is as close to a representation of cyberspace al la Snow Crash (do a search in books for that title!) that I have ever seen.

Specifically, the game gives you a fantasy world (the Star Wars setting, familar to most of us) and turns you loose to do what you will. Do you need direction? Mission terminals are available and easy to find, and give you an objective to complete (delivery or hunting) for credits (SWG money). Do you want to explore? Pick a direction and head off and see the awesome sights of the planets (nine in all) that you can visit. Want to socialize? Head to the local cantina and check out who's playing and watch some dancers. Do you have a mind to become an economic force in the galaxy? You can start from humble beginnings producing equipment, and go on to become a Master Marketer and advertise your wares across the planets with NPC street barkers. Still not your thing? How about becoming a bounty hunter and tracking down the scum of the universe. Still not exciting enough? Enlist with the Rebels or the Empire, and be on the front lines of the galactic civil war, shooting walkers and liberating cities. Too dangerous? Well, with all of the conflict going on, medics are in high demand, and you can turn a nice profit healing the wounded. Or be an architect. Or a tailor, a chef, a smuggler, or many others. Or be a bit of all of them.

The fact is that in many online games you're essentially doing what you can do in nearly any video game. You run around killing things for rewards. In SWG, that isn't true. You CAN kill creature to your heart's content, but if you never want to pick up a blaster you can still be quite a success - just ask the entertainers who dance for a living in the cantinas and outside the spaceports for new arrivals. That is quite remarkable in and of itself.

So go out and do whatever you want to do. The freedom of it all is a bit intimidating at first really, and learning a trade can take some time (you have to work to become a bounty hunter for example), but it is rewarding to a gamer far beyond the momentary rush you get from defeating some end level boss that has been plauging you for a month. Keep in mind also that the game will be expanding (for no additional cost) to include player constructed cities, mounts (riding animals), and vehicles (like land speeders and speeder bikes)in the coming months. And the first expansion for the game, which is due out next year some time, will include space craft.

I recommend this game whole heartedly to those who are looking for something different than yet another first person shooter or real time strategy. The stunning graphics alone are worth the price of admission (if you have a new game PC, this is your showpiece title!), and the variety and depth to the game will keep you coming back.

** A Technical Note **

Those of you with broadband connections through a router (like Linksys or D-Link) should update the firmware of your router. This will allow for uninterrupted game play, and it will make your experience a lot more enjoyable.

A Long Time Ago In An MMORPG Far Far Away

After a lengthy installation and patching process I was welcomed into a world. A world I've seen before, a world I know, a world that I had always dreamed of existing within. My character Blades-Ax Marthos, a zabrakian (darth maul) with light skin, a mute tatoo, and a pronounced crown of horns. I was given a choice of professions, I choose to become an Artisan for I dreamt of making the grandest houses to grace the planets. I am now well on my way to becoming a Master Architect. I choose my starting planet and I find myself on the sands of Tatooine outside of Mos Eisley. I explore I hear the crunch of sand beneath my shoes, I create small items to gain experience to make larger more complicated items that I might sell for good prices on the in-game Bizaare. Trully this is a game like no other, I realized this as I lost myself in that world. Never before has a game touched me in this way.
Do yourself a favor, buy the game, pay the monthly fee. Believe me it is incredibly worth it. The graphics are supreme as you can pick out the hairs off a Bantha's back, run from the dewbacks as the only docile animals turn violent when attacked. As of the moment there is no real defined story but not many MMORPGs have any, or a good one for that matter.
The game takes place in between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, so Luke still has both hands, Darth Vader is still only known as Darth Vader, Jabba lives, and Han has yet to feel what it's like to be a giant metal popsicle. Since it takes advantage of an otherwise unexplored time period in the Star Wars mythos it can have you interact with many of the characters from the original series in all their glory. Come on, who didn't want to get a search and destroy mission from the one and only Boba Fett? This is a better game then anything else I've ever laid my hands on, and the game is only getting started. Get in now, start the game on the ground floor so you'll have a fairly balanced character by the time you can purchase and fly your own X-Wing in the SWG Expansion pack. There is something so gratifying about taking down a mynoc with a blaster when two days ago you couldn't.
LIVE THE SAGA! BE THE LEGEND! CARVE YOUR LEGACY!
STAR WARS GALAXIES! YOU DON'T PLAY IT, YOU ARE IN IT!
