What a great game. The best Metroid since Super Metroid. One of the best things about this game is that much of the old school gameplay and characters stayed. Retro Studios did an excellent job. This is THE most realistic shooter since Halo, if not, even better. The storyline is excellent (it takes place in between Metroid and Metroid II), the weapons are awesome, the transition from 1st to 3rd person perspectives is as smooth as it can be, and all the hidden stuff you can unlock is amazing. Did you know that if you beat Fusion and hook it up to the GCN that you can play the original Metroid right there on the Cube? The only thing that feels odd about this game is that instead of having two buttons to move and strafe, as with conventional FPS, you just have one. You get used to it though. This game is so good that I just overlooked it. This is a must have game for any Metroid or Nintendo fan, or if you just want a challenge. You are also going to NEED a guide for this game. If you don't, well, lets just say that you were warned. Trust me. Like I said before, this is THE FPS to get. If you can, get Metroid Fusion too for double the fun. On a side note: I thought Halo sucked.
Better than any hype you've heard

I rarely delve into quest games nowadays because they're either too complicated, or take too long to beat. When my roomate bought a Gamecube and Metroid Prime, I thought I'd give the descendent of one of my 8-Bit favorites a try.
Within the next week I had logged about 20 hours playing the game.
This game succeeds for many reasons. First in my mind is the gameplay. Though the controls take a short time to get used to, by the time you have progressed through twenty percent of the game or so, you find your fingers flowing so effortlessly, easily manipulating Samus into the morph ball while dropping a bomb at the same time, only to roll back out of ball form immediately to lock on to an enemy, freeze it, and fire a missle to shatter it. I truly commend Nintendo for taking the time to figure out what layout of controls would work best once all items are recovered.
Another big winner for Nintendo was their ability to pay homage to the original classic. Many enemies make a reappearance including Ridley. Still, all the classic throwbacks are modified for the new millenium, and items like the morph ball now include upgrades like ball boost and magnetic ball.
On an atmospheric level, the scenes are full of lush color and detail, and are accompanied by some impressive neo-futuristic techno-like samples. The initial scenes in the pirate headquarters (where you first encounter Metroids) use darkness and faint light perfectly to exploit a real sense of uneasiness and trepidation in the player.
In addition to all these highlights, I'm not sure if I have ever played a game that was so perfectly difficult. Most bosses take a couple of tries to beat, as the patterns involved in beating them become increasingly complex. The levels are massive, and at times, a lot of tedious traveling is necessary to retrace steps, and return to places to recover items that were unattainable previously. Again, though, the gameplay is so smooth that the journeys take less and less time as you become more proficient with your movements.
There is not a game on the Gamecube system that I could recommend more highly than Metroid Prime. The subsequent title, Prime 2:Echoes, is a fantastic game, but does not match the perfect balance of gameplay, difficulty, playability, and originality as this heralded classic
Great game, but not realy a FPS

To start off, this game has GREAT graphics. I cannot stress GREAT enough. All of your different visors and beams (I'll explain that later)look awsome. If you are obsessed with graphics you should definetly get this game.
As I saidd earlier, this is not a FPS. It's like a platformer action shooter with a first person veiw. It has elements of a 2D sidescoller, like when you fight againts a boss you shoot it in a specific spot and then you dodge its different attacks in a VERY similar style to a 2D game.
Basically you get 6 weapons in the game, 4 different beams withe different effects, plus missiles and missile-beam combinations, and morph ball bombs. You also get 4 different visors, which let you scan objects and enemys, and give you thermal and X-ray vision.
The gameplay is wierd and you dont get to manually aim (Because if you do it takes like 5 mintes to shot one spot) but once you get used to it it is alot of fun. There is a bunch of backtracking, so if you don't like that, watch out. Do not judge this game by the first level, which is very boring.
BEST GAME EVER!

Undoughtably the best game of the year! Everything you would come to expect in a game and so much more. If you like first person games at all and even if you don't you will probably fall in love with this game. This game has everything, it has the best graphics I've ever seen in a game, of the best story lines, the areas in this game are HUGE, you get to roll up and down half pipes (well land formes that resemble half pipes and were clearly meant to), and so much more. In short if you have a gamecube buy this game, if you don't have a gamecube and are thinking about buying one get it and this should be your first game on the system. If you are one of those people that think that the gamecube is a "little kid" system check the new Capcom games coming out next year (Viewtiful Joe, Dead Phoenix, Killer 7, Project #3, Resident Evil 4) and I recommend Resident Evil Zero which is out now. Thanks for your time and I hope you liked my review

this game is like woosh! graphics are pro and it has a classical beginning. she lands on a space station, fights a giant bug, and gets off before the station blows. the only thing that sucks is when you lose all of your junk when you are powered down so all you have is a beam gun thingy. she lands on tallon IV and has to find 22 artifacts before the space pirates do. be warned, the sheegoth boss is so friggin hard. have lots of rockets or you are dead poo. same with the thardus boss (the rock dood). some things that they should have added was: multi-player, the ability to fly her ship, save just about whenever you want, and so that you can unlock super metroid, not metroid. this thing is lke pikmin, you finish one area and go on to the next. kinda like dk 64 more like. also you should ALWAYS scan when you enter a new room. just to tell you, if you have agent under fire, the controls are going to be HARD to get used to because 1) they suck 2)you have to mash two buttons sometimes. but the good thing is, you dont really have to memorize them cause they kinda tell you when youre doing the important parts
This game is absolutely amazing.

It doesn't get much better than this, folks. The graphics are the best of anything on any system. The plot is lacking, but that does not take away from the game at all. It's a run-a-round shoot-'em-up with some very interesting mental puzzles along the way.
Awsome Game

This game is really cool. There are many bosses with their own weapons of death. Speaking of weapons, Samus Aran (the main character that you play as) has a lot of cool ones. Ice beams, rocket launchers and Grappling hooks are just a few. This game is definietly worth the money!

Metroid Prime can be connected to the newly released Metroid Fusion via the Game Boy Advance Link, unlocking two bonus features. Completing Fusion unlocks the entire original Metroid on the Gamecube. They've actually improved upon the original Metroid by adding the ability to save within the game. Completing Prime opens up the ability to play Metroid Prime with a Fusion suit. This change is only cosmetic, as it doesn't grant Samus any new voodoo powers or the ability to talk with the Metroids.
Metroid Prime is an amazing game.

The first time I saw this game I thought it would be boring but after I played it at wal-mart I thought it looked cool. I started researching it and I found lots of information, good and bad. But after a while I started to like it alot so I got it for thirty dollars. It's really fun. People are always complaining about the controls but that's just because they stink. I had no problem with the controls. I understand why this was 2002 game of the year. The music and sound is great. I really like the lock on feature. I can't understand why people complain about that. If somebody has a problem with a game why get it? From what I've heard Metroid Prime 2 is 4 player co-op and online compatible. Which is good. Metroid Prime is a great game and if your a Cube owner get this. I don't care if you don't like FPS games because this is more it's also an RPG. So if you want a challenging game and can't find one this is a great choice.
