Proof that 3D doesnt always beat 2D

Like many people here writing reviews, I have played Metroid Prime. And I felt it is important I give my thoughts on the game. Ill start with the graphics, they were stunning and I was very impressed, it showed the amount of power that the GCN has. I cant resist the erge to compare it to Halo so I will. It definately beats Halo in graphics so I wont linger on that. Many people who "hate" Halo says it has a small selection of weapons. I found that in MP all you used was a cannon attached to your arm, and the occasional rolling bomb. Halo has a larger variety of weapons so for that it wins. Also in MP there arent really levels. It runs straight through which is a cool concept but offers almost no replay value. And its kind of......(exuse my spelling) cle-shay, that you happen to crash and loose all of your upgrades, and then have to battle bosses that happen to want to destroy you, and after you happen to beat them using your last found upgrage, you happen to get another upgrade. This is all just before something else happens to happen taking you to another boss using you new upgrade and recycling the process.

This game was pretty good, I gave it three stars eventhough the lack of gameplay and multyplayer really deserve two.

I recomend this game for those like large puzzles and battling bosses over and over. It doesnt beat Halo (which was somewhat overated) but then again they arent even really similair. And I know that Metroid fans are going to read this review, not really think about the context and what I am trying to convey, then click on the word NO under the words "was this review helpful" and then go and write a bad review for Halo.......so whatever go continue the cycle.

Better in 2D

I remember the first time I played Metroid on the (8 bit)
Nintendo. It was a side scroller, so
I saw Samus (the character you control)
from afar, and I actually
believed Samus was a robot, not a woman in an armour.
Metroid was fun, because you got to run around in several
worlds with different environments, get new guns, shoot down
scary monsters, and you got to play
around with the thought "I wonder what it's like for Samus
to stand on that platform right now. Isn't he (she) afraid of heights?
What is it like to look at this world through Samus's eyes?"
So several years later later Metroid Prime enters the scene,
and my last question was answered: Technology has made it
possible to now see the environment through Samus's eyes,
and we have video sequences now that clearly state that Samus is a
woman.

I always thought that it was I who was getting older, since
games fascinated me less and less. But maybe, it was the games
themselves. Metroid Prime is dull. The game leaves nothing
to the imagination like the first Metroid games.
Everything you see (through Samus), is what you get. What was
fun with Metroid was that when you jumped and missed a platform
you would get a stomach sensation as if falling. Why?
Because your concentration was entirely on making that jump.
In Metroid Prime you just know you missed the jump, because
you just fell down, no way of knowing where your feet are,
or where to place them to make the jump.

So I guess that's my point about Metroid Prime. Mario made it to 3D,
not Castlevania, and I guess not Metroid either. Give the player
some limitations, and see the player make up for it in imagination:
When the mind is communicating with the game, see the game thrive.
In Metroid Prime, the player has everything she or he needs,
no imagination required.. So the game feels more like a chore,
than a game. Make a stand for 2D and bring Metroid back to its
original place. Maybe I'll just buy a gameboy advance, just
to finally make that jump.

Too hard

This game, particularly near the end, is far too difficult. I finally had to give up and get back to real life after many hours attempting to defeat the final enemy ("Metroid Prime"). Some of the earlier battles had been exceedingly difficult as well and required many hours of play. After a certain amount of this the game begins to feel more and more like a chore and less and less like a game. While gamers with very nimble fingers and reflexes or a great deal of free time may enjoy this type of challenge I did not. I noticed that others have written with similar opinions. I feel this is a critical flaw in the game and do not recommend it despite its positive qualities.

One of the Best!!!

Besides RE4, this is still one of the best GC games around!!! The graphics and environments are awsome. This is coming from a PC gamer that has been playing First Person Shooters since the original Wolfenstien. Every Game Cube owner must add this game to the collection. Beats most current games, hands down!! Plus, it'll keep you busy for along time.

Prepare to be annihalated, if you intend on dissing Samus.

This is a good game. This is a great game. This is the best game on the Nintendo Gamecube. This is the best Metroid Game in existence. Why? Let's start with the atomic basics. This is not a first-person shooter. If it was, why would people think it is? It's just a first person Action game. Second of all, i think you are all lame. I don't know why, I just liKe calling people that-you dig? Third of all, this is the best game of 2002, trust me. This is an unbeleivable game that shouldn't be wasted. Buy this instead of lame action games like Jet Li, watchamacallit (No offense Jet). Fourth of all, you go to the store, ask the clerk for Metroid Prime. If they don't have it (and it's not sold out.). Never buy video games from that store ever again. If it's a gardening shop, I understand. This game can't possibly get better. No voice acting, but plenty of action to forget about that. You can upgrade Samus to the max to create, the one, the only SUPER DUPER SAMUS! MORE EFFICIENT AND HOTTER THAN EVER! BLAST THOSE SPACE PIRATES ONE BY ONE! Oh, and a hint for all those Metroid Prime newbies. Space Pirates die with one missile. Dig? I know you did, later, dig?

If you play this game for longer than 2 hours you start to feel sick because of the way the camera angles work. It's a fantastic game and one of the best out there but play it in short spells.

This is great. Those who put it 4 or 5 stars, you are the best.
Those who put it 3 stars and under,

YOU ARE MENTALLY RETARDED. THAT'S RIGHT RETARDED.

First of all i love first person shooters but this is horrible. its repetitive and lame. i like the Metroid ames on GBA BUT the first person perspecive really is no good. and the graphics are great but the controls are bad. why is there a lock on button on a FPS??
Also there is way too much reading and no voice acting. and there is no story at all. There is also way to much backtracking to areas you have already been too. Just avoid this pitiful excuse for a game if you can. get Resident Evil 4 instead or Mario Kart those games are classics.
