If you're reding this, means youre thinking of buying metroid prime, Im telling you this is a great game wich easily, take on xbox's HALO ( let's face it this is the best and only good game of xbox). OK enough bla bla bla.
The game features a great story that you have to put together, trough your scan visor( yes, it scan things, like enemies, controls, evironment elements, etc.). Then you also have the thermal visor which allows you to see the corporal heat of your adversaries and some times, their weak points ( kinda like PREDATOR's visor, if you don't know what i'm talkin about, go rent predator, it's a really cool movie)
This is a real epic story of the greatest bounty hunter of all,Samus Aran,This is ONE of the nintendo game cube MUST HAVE. You get to explore all kind of environments ( COLD,METALLIC,UNDERGROUND,SPACE, etc.)you can even go to some great temples, wich kinda resemble the mayan architecture.
OK im done here, cause i alredy have the game and I am possessded by the game, I just wanted to tell you, that this game is great and now I have to go play some more.
PS: Buy metroid fusion too. IT ROCKSSSSSSSSSSS
I Get It

A kid wrote a review which is in the spotlight review and it shows how he doesn't like the game and trys nicely to put the game down everywhere. Well I checked out his file and it seems he owns only a Xbox and is trying to make on of the Gamecubes best shooters look bad but can't when we all know the real truth of this game. If you play the game you will see what it is like and at how great it is. Someone like him gets mad because this game is better then Halo and that makes Xbox look bad and makes Xbox fanboys diss this game. You should have thought that out first before writing a negative review. No everyone who read that review should listen to someone or anyone whos has all the systems like me. This is a great game that has to be tried out before a review is wrote.

I have never reviewed anything before on the internet and this game moved me to write my first review ever! This game took up so much of my personal life that I forgot to eat. I became very thin and lost most of my friends. Seriously though, this is probably the best game I have played in ten years. If you are Len, you need to get this game. If you are not Len, you should still get this game. That's all I can say because I don't write reviews very well. Bye now.
Love it alotttttt

Gonna get my metroid on yea...roll under that wreckage, shoot that bad guy...jump that ledge, bomb that false wall....backtrack 5 miles, wait wait wait, what?
Yea, you backtrack alot.
If you guys have ever played winback, that game where the objective is to backtrack half the time, this game outdoes even winback.
Ok so the game is basically a first person shooter. It is linear, There are seperate paths you can go, but you usually will have to stop shortly after because you need a special gizmo or gadget.
You don't really need to scan that much to win, even though in the first level they make it seem like you will. Basically you shoot monsters, find things to make your suit do more, and fight bosses for those things, then backtrack.
The game has alot of shooting, contrary to what other people say. You will shoot alot of monsters by rapidly clicking the powerbeam button. Eventually, I just started using missles, because every time you kill a guy he leaves something. Well, they don't always leave things, but usually they will leave a health up or missle up. I think it depends on what weapon you use to kill the actual monster.
The pros of the game are the great environments. It isn't the same over and over again, actually the backtracking screws that up. You could of gone through tons of different environments, instead you backtrack between like 5 of them, mabye 6. Then there are the graphics, pretty good. The weapons are alright, I love just pounding guys with missles. The morph ball works well, you can use it whenever you want. Then there is the help system. Usually it tells you when there is a save system nearby, and your next objective. Most of the time I am not lost, but sometimes it tells me to go 5 miles to where I just came from and I feel like throwing the game in the garbage.
However, the cons of the game greatly out-due all the good things. The control is weird at first, but once you master it, it becomes better. Still, there are points in the game when the control works against you. Say there is a monster shootiong at you from behind. You can't really turn around and keep moving left and right, so you usually will get shot a couple times. Cleared areas usually leave some really tough enemies, that gang up on you and you die. That's another problem, the monsters can be really tough. Usually you can't just shoot the monsters. Most of the time you will have to find a weakness or wait till it turns around and shoot it's back.
The overall layout of the game is even worst. Boss, new item, backtrack. You will probably fight 20 bosses in the game. You can get a few energy cell boosters, and missle pack boosters. The only thing is, most of them require you to go out of your way for them. Backtracking isn't that big during the first hour or so of the game, but let me tell you something, it gets worse. You go to this iceworld to get a speed ball reward, then you go ALL THE WAY BACK to your ship. If you play the game and get to the speed ball part, you will know what I am talking about.
Besides backtracking and such, the problem is death. Die, reload from last save point saved at. The one problem that could of been avoided easily. Say you get killed? Ok, you can't just continue from the beggining of that boss fight, you are going to have to reload. Say you fight some of the tough enemies, reload. Say you play for 2 hours to get a powerup then die, reload. I think you understand.
In closing, the backtracking makes the game bad. The dieing makes the game bad. I wouldn't of minded a shorter game with no backtracking. I wouldn't have minded a retry system for bosses. But these problems overshadow all the good things in the game, and make it not worth playing. Sorry metroid, better luck next time.
Overall--->2 Stars
nô good
I really wanted to like it...

Well, I have to say that the controls of this game are faithful to older versions of Metroid, but really don't lend themselves well to the first person shooter (FPS) world.
Simply put, MP has crappy controls that take away from the game. You find yourself having to think about which button is used to 'jump', 'fire', 'scan', 'look-up', 'look-down' and on and on. The worst aspect of the setup is that fact that you cannot simply look up or down without at least two key-presses. Furthermore, you have NO way to adjust the control setup.
Next, you need to frequenly access the inventory/mission map, but even this is a pain. I really wish the designers would have committed to either a FPS setup or a 'explore the world' setup. Trying to do both in one game with these controls just does not work.
On the plus side, the first level of the game ROCKS. It is clear, crisp and you feel like you have a task at hand. But after this, you are placed in a HUGE world with little clue what to do, no helpful mission clues, and spend a great deal of time running from one end of the world to the next.
Hey, if you are like me, you have a 'real' job, family and friends to look after. When I want to play a video game, I'd like to get through a level in one or two nights...not replay the same task night after night until I find a 'save point'. And of course, if you can't find a save point, you are right at the same place the next day.
Younger folks who have LOTS of time on their hands might love this approach (and this may be who the game was marketed after).
On the up-side, the graphics of this game are VERY good. I mean, really, really good. I am lucky to have all of the major consoles (XBox, NGC, PS2) and this game is close to (sorry to say it again) Halo (XBox game) in terms of graphics.
Sadly, the crappy controls and redundent gameplay just make for a less than par game. I can't help thinking of all the other games I have played in my life where I never had an 'issue' with the controls (e.g., Half-Life, Doom, Mario for N64, Zelda for SNES and N64, Halo, RTCW for the PC, etc).
In a nutshell:
-Pros:
- Fantasic graphics (REALLY fantastic)
- Love that a classic was updated to the FPS world
-Cons:
- Controls are bad
- Enemies keep auto-generating once you clear an area
- Can't look up or down without 'thinking' about the key combo (another control issue)
- The game is very cool because it is large, but stinks for the same reason. You will have many moments just running around over a very LARGE world trying to figure out what to do
So, bottom line, if you like the sort of game where you need to spend a vast amount of time trying to figure out what to do next, this is your game. If not, this game will get you VERY frustrated.
Oddly, if MP2 comes out, I will be the first to buy it. Maybe by then the game developers will make a clear choice to treat the game as a true FPS: the ability to look all around the game universe without pain, save a game 'whenever' without the evil 'save point' and no longer having to deal with auto-generating monsters once you walk past a conceptual checkpoint. Again, this model is PERFECT for a 2D shooter, but not for an FPS IMHO.
Cheers!
Huge disappointment

I love FPS on PC's, and I loved Goldeneye on the N64. That being said, I did not like Metroid Prime one bit. Luckily, I got a good deal and picked it up for $12 but I still regret it. The game just isn't meant to be played on a controller. The gameplay is slow and boring. It even made me dizzy after 1 level of play. Do not buy this game... if you MUST play it, rent it only!

Nintendo's systems are best known for a handful of franchises that were (For the most part)established on the original 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System. Along with Super Mario Brothers and the Legend of Zelda,Metroid became one of Nintendo's star franchises. Now, after a 7 year absence, Metroid returns in a big way. Gameplay is seen through Samus's visor, and the view makes the gamer feel as if they're exploring the planet of Tallon IV themselves. Whether blasting Space Pirates or navigating mazes, Metroid Prime offers countless memorable experiences that make it a must own game.

Granted it's an early Gamecube game, but it still misses some very BASIC elements that should be expected by any modern gamer.
The first problem is the control. NO DUAL ANALOG. That means that your vision is always on the horizon, you have to walk around like your neck is bolted in place. The only way to look around is to hold down the shoulder button, except while doing this you are not allowed to move and Samus looks around with the speed of a morphine addict. Sure there may be some ultra-fast, barely visable alien darting around the room attacking you, but Samus will slowly gaze around the room like she's admiring the architecture. Frustrating.
My second problem: SAVE POINTS. Haven't we progressed to a point in game technology by now where we can save the game by ourselves? It doesn't add anything to a game experience by having to go back and replay an hour of game that you already played through, because you died and the last save point was an hour away. It's something I really can't stand, and seems completely unneccesary and just a way to cheapen the "challenge."
Although I really like the fact that the game tries to emphasize exploration rather than guns-blazing domination, the exploration thrill wears off when every area looks almost identical to the others, and all your data collection consists of scanning a glowing panel on a wall and reading a blurb of text, then repeat for the next panel.
The graphics are nice but there isn't much variety in settings, and the real lack of a story in a game like this never allows you to get into the experience. There is no dialogue, no cut scenes and no real clue is ever given as to why you're where you're at and doing what you're doing. Basically you never care one iota for Samus which makes it kind of hard to get into this one.
