I don`t know how many people read the article in the paper about a guy getting arrested for doing some really sick things in this game and that`s what really made me make up my mind. My advice is if you want some new experiences with the sims buy it for the console or buy some expansion packs

Okay okay...maybe they were right...

Okay, I came on here and told you that it was really really fun...for a while. Then I slowly started to stop playing. And I guess it's not really for teens I guess. It starts to get boring. All you do is chat with people and try to build your skills up. It takes FOREVER to bring your skills up. I never even try to do them. It's fun talking to people, but after a while it gets sort of boring. I mean, I see how people have all these big houses and I wasn't even close to making my own. Making money is hard. Also, it gets boring going on your computer everyday and wasting your time sitting and chatting the whole day. There's other things for me to do anyway. And I met someone rude on there too. But, if you still want to buy it enjoy it while you can cause you won't enjoy it in a few weeks or months. I kind of think they should of finished it all the way first cause they probably would of gotten better reviews. I am soooooooo glad they let you have 30 days free because this game isn't worth paying for!

believe the hype: it's terrible

i originally posted this review february 12. it's now late june... i often look at the reviews of the game and see if things have improved. obviously EA and maxis haven't found a way to make the game more appealing; there is a hardcore group of TSO fans out there, but it isn't large. checks of message boards devoted to TSO confirm that cities remain underpopulated, the people who are playing the game are constantly AFK, and the best of the "new content" has been added with little positive effect. teenage girls and housewives appear the dominant demographic groups who are enjoying the game, so if you're in those groups, you might want to give it a shot. everyone else though, steer clear...

original february review: already somewhat bored with the game, i tried to sign into it this afternoon and discovered, having logged in last only 10 hours before, that i would have to download 3.8MB of data to proceed. (not fun over 56K dialup.) then i logged into my email and found an email from maxis asking me to RECRUIT MY FRIENDS to buy the game. hello, last straw.

of course, i'm not exactly sad to be giving up on the sims online. it's simply not a fun diversion; it's full of losers who stalk you begging to be your friend, and repeatedly ask you for your real life personal and instant messenger information. socially inept "characters" will tell you they spend 6+ hours a day signed onto the game, and you will believe them. the novelty of the actions and interactions you can prompt your poor, boring Sim to engage in wears off remarkably quickly. there are very few redeeming / interesting qualities to this game after you've owned it for about 72 hours.

this venture is simply a failure, and with subscriber totals well under maxis' expectations, things are unlikely to improve. maxis and EA are getting everything they deserve for this bafflingly insubstantial piece of garbage. i'll never buy another EA product after this ripoff, and i invite everyone else to join me. (oh, yeah, the box says "EA reserves the right to terminate the sims online service after 90 days notice.")

p.s. sims online ran fine on my computer, 1.8Ghz intel celeron. but people with slower processors have reported problems within the game. and dialup isn't an issue once you are in the game, but the occasional downloads (about every 3-6 days, varies) are an inexcusable pain.

An incomplete game that was released too early

I am one of those people who laughed at the negative reviews and looked forward to the game with great anticipation. I purchased it a day after it came out.

Needless to say, I am disappointed. All the years they spent developing the game yet it plays like its half finished. As fun as it is socializing with other players, theres just not enough to do and what little objectives the game does have are really somewhat shallow. And what little gameplay is boring and tiresome. I'm used to playing online games that have a *balance* of actual gameplay along with socializating. Right now I feel as if I'm playing in a giant chatroom that I have to pay monthly for...I wanted a little more depth and fun and this game doesn't have it and when I feel like chatting, I can always find somewhere online to do it for free...

Good way to pass time...

I'd say the sims online is good and bad...it is a very good way to pass the time.

The Good Sides:
You get to make your own sim....
You can make new friends
Make your own house...(with alot of work)

The BAD sides:
LAG...LAG...and some more lag...
Skilling takes hours to complete from 0.00 to 10.99
Money Making is very hard
There is alot of Scammers in TSO , so better watch out...

Overall , its 50/50...but I'd sugguest you wait till The Sims 2 (can't wait)Coming September 17th , 2004

havent put it down in 2 years
